The mayor of Arlington, Tenn., told his Facebook friends this week that "our muslim president" scheduled Tuesday night's address to the nation about Afghanistan to knock The Charlie Brown Christmas Special off network TV, The Commercial Appeal reports.

Russell Wiseman wrote, the newspaper reports:

"Ok, so, this is total crap, we sit the kids down to watch 'The Charlie Brown Christmas Special' and our muslim president is there, what a load.....try to convince me that wasn't done on purpose. Ask the man if he believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he will give you a 10 minute disertation (sic) about it....w...hen the answer should simply be 'yes'...."

Only those who have been "friended" by Wiseman can see the post at his Facebook page.

The mayor, a Republican, told the Commercial Appeal that "you guys are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill."

During last year's presidential campaign, then-Democratic candidate Obama addressed several times the Internet-fueled rumors that because his birth father was a Muslim he was as well. At the UNITY Convention of Journalists of Color, he had this to say:

"This is a classic example of a no-win situation, right? So I have, repeatedly, on various occasions, said, I am not a Muslim, but this whole strategy of suggesting that I am is indicative of anti-Muslim sentiment that we have to fight against. So maybe you haven't seen those quotes, but they're out there and I've said them on more than one occasion. I just don't like the idea of somebody falsely identifying my religion. I suspect that you wouldn't appreciate that either."

The Charlie Brown special had been scheduled for that evening by ABC-TV. It's now set to be shown by the same network next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.

Fox News Channel's Glenn Beck also zeroed in on the bumping of Charlie Brown.

I drive past a church here in Ohio with a big sign out front that says "Keep America a Christian Nation." Every time I see it, I realize how isolated in my ivory tower I really am. I'm guessing, as this is a Primitive Baptist church, that as a Catholic I'm barely considered a Christian by their views. Of course, neither would the bulk of the founding fathers, but that's I suppose not the point.

Republicans have become a caricature of themselves. But then again this is a mayor from a small town in Tennessee whose population is about 500 less than the student body from my high school days.

I only lived in Tennessee for a couple of years but in that time I can't say I'm too surprised from the conduct of that mayor. Hell the KKK was formed in that state. They infamously visited our university's library as well but on the way they got to hear wannabe preachers trying to convert passer-bys. Not exactly the typical lefty environment one thinks of when they picture a college setting.

In any case I'm sure Charles Schulz is rolling in his grave somewhere that he's being used by Beck.

That made me LOL. I cant get enough of the "Obama is a Muslim" crowd. Even better is the one he was born in Kenya. If he were bron in Kenya he would be winning gold medals not President. Not that I'm an Obama apologist(I'm not), but Obama was a member of the Church of Christ in Chicago. So if he was a Muslim, that would be sacriledge in their eyes.

I didn't need Obamas help changing the channel to a better christmas special. This was a huge waste of tax dollars just to help out the lazy lower class that couldn't reach the remote, the socialism in our government is incredible.

Well it would mean that he not only lied about his religion extensively, but went so far as to become a member of a Christian church and go there for a long time to try and deceive people.

In my opinion that would be unacceptable; of course, that's also why it's ridiculous to think that he is a secret Muslim in the first place. It requires a pretty extensive conspiracy.

Thats the unfortunate part about electing a president and not an emperor. He has to deal with the childish carrying on in the senate/house and an opposition party that will block every legislature he attempts to pass on the simple grounds of it being socialist, no matter what it is.
