Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.
|
First hearing today for custody of my son.
I recieve a temporary order for Sole physical and legal custody taking primary physical and joint legal away from the Mother.
Mother is to have NO contact whatsoever with child.
Another hearing is scheduled, however, this will simply be another chance for mother to come and say her peice to recieve SOME sort of visitation rights. My attorney tells me its a done deal. My son will not be taken away from me unless I do something really stupid.
What a day! Christmas came early this year.

Thanx Frazz and Warpcrafter!
On another note, in the 3 months my son has been with me, school has reported marked improvement in academic/social behavior at school.
I've noticed vast improvements in his speech skills.
Behavior at home is getting much better. (since now he's got stability and structure)
Lastly, what tells me I'm doing right is the fact that he NEVER asks things like..."where is mom", "when am I going home", or even "can I call my mom?" He NEVER brings up his previous home. He's quite happy to hang out with daddy, my fiance, and is acting the part of the very happy little 6yo boy! 3 years and counting to his intro to wargaming!

Congrats, I know tangentially how infuriating that process can be, by godfather is going through it right now with an ex that actually extracted the kids to Canada on a court hearing date.

Its good that he's is not asking about his mom, but If he does start asking to phone his mom or something, then let him. When he's older you dont want him thinking that it was YOU who stopped him seeing his mother. If he is only six he may forgot about how gakky it was when he lived with his mom, so he may start to think it was you.

See now cases like yours I love to hear as it is so hard in the states to get a Judge to award custody to the father. My friend got it of his daughters with a restraining order on the wife from seeing them, and even that was over a year in court and tons of abuse she did, but washington state didnt want to give custody to the dad. Grats shane good stuff!!

It sounds to me like you're a bloody good father and have a bloooody good relationship with your son! Really well done!
However, for his sake, if I were you I'd keep an eye on him as he matures as parents splitting up whilst he's young can have a big effect on how he behaves with others in later life... Just a bit of friendly advice, hope you dont mind me suggesting it.
(I'm studying Psychology at the moment btw!)
