Bounding Assault Marine
In the deepest reaches of Valhalla
|
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog on my upcoming Tyranid army.
I’ve been peeking on the Tyranids for a long time now but as 5th edition Wh40k came out I put the idea on a shelf for the time being
but as January draws nearer and pictures and rumors are starting to stir so dose my interest for the aliens.
Since I have no idea of how the codex will play out and how the mechanics will be I am refraining myself from going crazy and buying
one of everything currently available and playing it safe and waiting, boring yes but I have learned from earlier experiences.
However I bought a box of Gaunts for practicing.
As the codex eludes us I can’t provide with an army list yet but I am thinking along the lines of an infantry based hoard army with
big bugs as support. I am not a WAAC player and play mostly for fun, as is the rest of my gaming group.
I ask you to be patient with me and this blog because I am a neat freak and a slow painter, plus I only have time for this glorious
hobby on the weekends. But I will update as often as I can!
Below is a picture of my test Gaunt. I painted it up so I could test some techniques and to see how it would turn out.
There is some spills and a few places where I missed and made a mess and since it is a test model I didn’t bother to clean up.
I’m pretty pleased with the outcome and can hardly wait to January!
As you can see my version of the Leviathan colors aren’t as white as GWs own. My last coat on the skin was a mix of Skull White and Bleached Bone.
The result is a duller coat which looks better on the field than on the picture, plus I am not the best photographer but I will improve until next time.
The bases of the army will probably be some kind of urban to go with the gaming table I am building on the side. But I haven’t decided yet.
This is all I have for the time being. Feel free to comment and ask questions(not that it is much to comment and ask on yet).
So until next update have a great Christmas and a Happy New!

Thanks StubbyGB! Yeah I felt that the finish GWs Leviathan was so white and plastic some how. So that's why I toned it down a
bit for my own aliens.
Can hardly wait for January

The off-white works well. Did you paint off-white and then shade the recesses with Leviathan Purple, or build up from a purple basecoat? The purple works well with the carapace highlights.

Very cool. I agree with Magos Ex, the off white really suites the carapace

Thanks guy! Feels good to hear that you do something well
Magos Ex, The purple was actually painted in the recesses, with the first Gaunt I tried to paint I just washed with purple and tried to layer up
to white but it took for ever and I had some problems with getting the white to cover the way I wanted so I went for this approach
instead, and it turned out quite well!
And for the purple I went with watered down Liche purple instead of the Leviathan purple wash, because then I can monitor how purple
the wash gets.
Well soon it is mid January so the new codex will arrive, finally letting me see what to do with the Nids I have laying around my work space( or are they lurking around )
Anyway, as progress comes I will update. Thanks once again for all the comments Makes me fell warm on the inside!

Test model looks awesome. Great contrast in that scheme and I love how clean everything is and the nice purple coloration in the joints.
Now paint 80 more just like it
If you get a chance to do any kind of WIP photos and painting recipes, I am sure everyone would really appreciate it!

Hello Dakka Dakka and a Happy New Year to everyone!
So this Friday I finally got my new shiny Codex: Tyranids, and as a faithful subject of the hobby I have spent the better part of the weekend plowing through the book,
front to back…and then some!
As a short review I like the Codex as far as the rules go, nothing is to overpowered or overpriced but more on that as I read more and play a few games.
One thing I don’t like about the Codex though is the layout, having to flip back and forth in the book looking for things is just annoying but not to hard to live with!
So back to modeling! The models that I currently have and the once I will start with include
6 Warriors
15 Termagaunts
15 Hormagaunts
8 Genestealers
1 Carnifex
So basically a Battle Force and a few extra Gaunts and Warriors, a good start to get a feel for the army. And since last I wrote on the Blog I have spent quite some time looking on the gray plastic in front of me planning conversions and other nice things and I am so pleased that I can finally start for real with the army!
And speaking of the Army I am so thankful for Apocalypse, by just making a short list on the models I want it got me well over 4000pt and that is without Forgeworld Bio-Titans. Poor my wallet!
And as a final note my first goal will be to get a full playable 2000pt army, so I will not include any choices that don’t have models to begin with, like Harpys, Tervigons and so on. I will wait with those until later so I can take my time and not feel stressed because I want to finish so I can play!
Anyway, enough of my ramble I have some models to fix
Please keep watching this space, updates with pics will be along soon
Until next time

Hello fellow Dakkamembers and Lurkers! It is time for me to necrolove my own thread, and it is about time!
Somehow more than a yeas have passed since my last update on this blog. A year filled with a lot of non-hobby related activities but I have finally found some time to paint again!
So I have finished a half squad of Hormagaunts. I decided to do them in groups of ten so that I will not grow tired of painting them, as they are quite boring to paint.
Well no time to waste! Lets show some pictures and speak later!
A few Squad pictures
And Singles
So first of all I apologies for the crude background in the pictures but it is the best I have right now.
You might need to zoom in on the pictures to see better....
Well these little critters have taught me a lot for the next batch about positioning, basing and weight placement. So the next ten will be even better!
The unit is going to be 20 Gaunts strong but before I continue with them I am going to do some other Nids, so I am of to my corner!
And feel free to vote on the pictures in the gallery!
Until next time!

That Leviathan colour scheme actually matches the 4th edition Leviathan sheme perfectly. It looks far better than the too bright 5th edition colours, kudos to you. Good luck on your blog.
