Pile of Necron Spare Parts
|
Hi Dakkaites,
i'm currently working on a 6'x4' urban board and i'd like to build a central plaza with a big statue in the middle. I know i could use a standard model, or maybe buy a special character to do that, but i'd like to find something bigger than a 40K mini.
Does anyone know how i could get my hands of a bigger representation of an Imperial Guard, Space Marine,... any imperial faction mini? I've checked ForgeWorld and MWG but have found nothing interesting.
Every idea is welcome

I'd check out the inquisitor range. I think they still sell them somewhere on the GW site, but ebay might be your best friend on it, in the end.

Maybe 40mm + miniatures?
An example.
Def. eBay for 54mm Inquisitors.

The old =][= mini of the DeathWatch SM would make a good statue.
Been looking for some ideas to do something like this myself.

The Inquisitor range has/had a big Space Marine. There's also a rather large Space Marine made by Forgeworld that would make an awesome statue.

But that thing's over a hundred dollars US, isn't it? There's a couple of Inquisitors that I would LOOOOOVE for terrain pieces, but $30-35 per model is just ridiculous to spend on a terrain piece, let alone the price of a Forgeworld item. Especially terrain pieces made up primarily of scraps of sprue, busted toys, broken buttons, and random doo-dads found on the street.

I think MOST everyone wants one of those big Space Marine statues that keep showing up on the Games Workshop site, I know I do.
The Inquisitor Range is probably your best bet, though I know Sideshow-Weta did a couple of Space Marine statues, but those are really hard to come by, and aren't cheap.

Try just making the statue from DOW its like a SM but with a skull head and thorned halo it has a scroll in one hand and sword in the other, you could change it to a scythe to emphasize the gothic feel.
can't find a picture but I'm sure somebody has one

Well my suggestion is to go to your local toy/dollar store and find maybe some figures that are larger than miniatures, convert, glue them to a base, and paint them. Maybe figures such as a knight that is easy to convert can really work well if you are going for something monumental.

Thank you all for your replies.
I've browsed eBay for some Inquisitor minis and found nothing under $20...
I guess i've found a use for my leftover Marine bits, and destroy what i've made when i find something better.

This is not only completely besides the point, it's also pretty insulting. Hell, I like a lot of Hasslefree sculpts so what does that make me? Feel free to express your dislike of a company's product, but really, the tones you selected just invoke discord. But perhaps that's what you want? And you must be the only person on Earth who's ever given a positive appraisal of Doc Thunder's sculpting ability. And that's terrible.

I love Kev's stuff.
Also he does a lot of freelance for other companies (eg PP).
Not all the models have boobies.
PS I know Kev - he's not sad or lonely. Infact he has a lovely wife (Sally) and 3 kids.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

Nothing, no matter how poorly you may think of someone's work, gives you the right to make ad hominem attacks, especially against a target who's not here to defend himself. Pause and reflect.

Laugh all you like. It's my opinion. In hindsight, granted, it was a bit more colorful than I could have worded it, but the mods took care of that bit for me.
So, exactly how is my opinion uninformed? I have seen these miniatures for several years now. How much more informed do I need to be to dislike a sculpt? Do I need to buy stock in the company? Take the sculptor out to lunch and get to know him/her? Seriously. I see the pictures that THEY put up on THEIR website to advertise THOSE minis with the intent to sell them. With that INFORMATION, I made my INFORMED opinion that I don't like enough of them to turn me off from the company as a whole.
In my opinion, a significant percentage of the minis are unattractively sculpted. Some are downright bad, to me. It is my right as a consumer to like or dislike as I see fit. Who are you to call me uninformed? Crucify me all day long for how I said it. I'll be a jackass or d'bag all day for using the language I used to describe my opinion, but don't just hop on some Ghidorah-hating bandwagon and attack my opinion just because some other people are. My opinion of dislike is every bit as informed as your opinion of liking.
I find the cattle mentality you're exhibiting to be so whacked that I can't take it seriously. Or you now, for that matter.
At any rate, I tried aplogizing to a Dakka member via a PM so as to not drag all you other readers through unnecessary garbage.
Guess I'll just make that public right here.
Sorry if my words offended anyone.
I'll choose them a bit more carefully from now on.

That wasn't my problem. It might have been Hawkins' problem, maybe, I don't claim to speak for him. My problem was that you insulted the sculptor and not in that constructive or relevant way like saying he's clumsy or has issues with symmetry, but in that ad-hominem way of calling him some kind of basement-dwelling troglodyte pervert. Comprende?
