GRRRRRRR!!!!

Gamespot.com.au wrote:Australia's Classification Board has developed a reputation in recent years for its draconian stance on violence in games. This week, the Classification Board effectively banned Sega and Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator by refusing to grant it an MA 15+ rating, the highest allowable for games. According to the board's decision, AVP's depiction of "explicit decapitation and dismemberment as well as locational damage" was a primary factor for the game's ban.

Australia's Classification Board has decided to not let adults Down Under see what's about to happen next.
Many developers, including Valve and Bethesda, opt to censor their products by toning down the violence to adhere to the Classification Board's standards. However, Rebellion has decided to simply not release AVP in the region. In a statement, the UK-based studio noted that it was upset that the game was refused classification but said that it will not be altering the game to make it acceptable by the Classification Board's standards.

"Rebellion is disappointed that its upcoming title Aliens vs. Predator has been banned in Australia," Rebellion said. "However, as we understand the law in that country, the authorities had no choice as we agree strongly that our game is not suitable for game players who are not adults."

"The content of AVP is based on some of the most innovative and iconic horror movies, and as such we wanted to create a title that was true to the source material. It is for adults, and it is bloody and frightening, that was our intent. We will not be releasing a sanitized or cut down version for territories where adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices."

There is no real reason not to have a R18+ rating for games in Australia....

Yeh it's annoying we pay heaps for games and just have the market flooded with crappy "casual" games instead >_>
If it's region free, import it (It's actually cheaper to import a game from America than it is to buy it in the shop most of the time ). It probably started with Man Hunt though

Basicly for the law to change (as it stands no R18+ rating is avaliable for game), all 7 attorney's (1 for each state) must approve a move to change the laws, this is then presented to the attorney general, who then asks to chance the law and its but to the houses, if passed, the laws are changed.

As it stands, all state attorneys are giving R18+ rating for games the green except for the South Australian attorney, who states that because parents cant guarantee that children cant get ahold of them in the house, he wont allow it. (I wound what his views on R118+ movies is?), He is a backwards, family first typ person.

I think thats roughly how it all works and whats been happening.

Anyone else find it funny that only South Australia seems to be against violent games?

One of you Aussie gamers should assassinate the guy. Once 18+ plus games are legal then people would finally understand video games don't cause violent behavior.

Forever alone

Our rating board itself is pretty inconsistent sometimes. Sometimes games that are 16+/Mature in the UK/US are only given an M rating here (which is the third rating out of four, and it's different from MA15+, which is actually restricted to people 15 and older to buy/rent).

Can't wait until that guy gets replaced.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
