Hello all,

I'm going to begin playing 40k, but I don't know which faction (race?) to choose as my first army. I'm hoping y'all can help me decide. I do know a few things that I want my army to be:

1) not SM

2) large point value/per model. I don't want to paint 150 Ork boyz.

3) Awesome looking. Opinions wanted on best looking faction (race?) models.

I have another question: How do you guys/girls (just being PC) lug around your models?

I've seen an "army case" for sale from GW, but it costs like $150. There has to be a cheaper way!

Choose an army that is loyal to the Emperor. There is no other choice.

As for how to carry this loyalist army of yours around, well I just use a tool box sided with Sytrofoam.

Perhaps Eldar? Demonhunters also kind of fit your description, but they're in dire need of a new codex. At least you'll be unique at your game shop if you choose them.

I carry mine in the box my monitor came in. It has enough room for the 10 tanks and 80 infantrymen having a Guard army forces me to lug around. I didn't even bother to pad it, since the proportions are perfect and nothing moves around in it.

Nids! New dex is around the corner and there's a ton of new and awesome looking models coming out.

It looks as though it going to be more of a swarm swarm army but you can compensate by getting loads of big bugs that are points heavy.

IG is still very competitive, and they offer some great cost-to-points ratios on their tanks. Troop choices get a bit spendy, but you can get a bunch of Leman Russ variants (executioner runs you at nearly 200 before upgrades) and fill up points quickly. Plus, a few special characters I know of really eat up the points. Such as a tactical genius...

I'd say Eldar. DH are brutal for a first army.

But don't get all bent out of shape if your opponent looks disdainfully upon your lack of originality while tabling you in 4 turns because he's got beating SMs down to an exact science after fighting them for hundreds of consecutive games.

Im new as well. I went with Eldar.

If you hate loosing games then maybe pick a dif race. They will take some getting use too so dont expect easy wins but they have a good variety of models and strategy. For example, you could have a fast moving Eldar army with hover bikes\tanks or go Aspect with lots of nifty units.

Unlike SM you need to plan your army before you buy with Eldar. There are so many strategy's you can use and all the units have their own special roles to play. Don't buy lots of DA and plan to go assault.

Comments above are pretty good. If you do choose an army like Nids, make sure you check out the Codex. Armys like Nids\IG could\can get very big. Something I too don't like unless there are tons of models to choose\convert (which there just arnt in my opinion).

Chaos deamons? Maybe hard to get started with but the models are alright and you can get up close with the enemy by turn 1

www.battlefoam.com: It is the future of transporting your models.

Large point value per model: Space marines.

Your first requirement (not space marines): I presume this also means you want to not be any space marine allies (Sisters, Inquisition, etc): Play Tyranids. Nidzillas - your entire army list consists of a bunch of monstrous creatures and a couple of very nasty genestealer squads.

Alternatively, you could subscribe to the nob biker list: At 1750 points, there's 22 models in your list - two troop choices and two HQs.

there are a lot of choices under the Emperium of man, I use a troop case from GW there cheaper than army cases
