Hi, so I've been building this Squat army (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/261424.page) and I came across the perfect 'counts as'. What better way to deliver my Veterans into battle than an IRON EAGLE GYROCOPTER???? Here's the only pictures I can track down...

Now it needs to be 40k scale, so I'm planning the following..

* It's a 'counts as' Vendetta, I'm imagining it slightly smaller than a GW Valkyrie model
* Wing fans will be some sort of electronics fans in round casing.
* The tail end of the fuselage, which is a crisscross shape on the epic model, I want to be one of those lattice frames you find on some helicopters. Like this, but obviously bigger or more girdery...

Any aircraft nuts out there know if I can get a model kit that's in any way similar? Even a good idea of a model helicopter to look for? A similar looking cockpit/fuselage would be great, but I'll probably have to use an enclosed LandSpeeder or a Valkyrie. Some little wings for the outside edges of the fans shouldn't be too hard, it's just the latticed tail I don't know about.

Any ideas?

There's a 1/43 scale Osprey out there I got a while back. It is bigger than a Valykrie but not much. Making it into an Iron Eagle will still take a lot of work but it's a good place to start.

The new Avatar toys have big fan engines and might also work for you.

Ooh, cool, then you can have the world go all "slipstream" on you.

Fan is easy, just get some old PC ones and use the fans in a diffrent case. Probably some plastic pipe to save time trying to shape it out of plasticard.

Run some power leads to that, and see if you can make it take off

Iro Eagles with transport, eh? Mind you, the number of skimmers with battlecannon is a little low.....

Did they have BATTLECANNON?

I can't actually find out any more details about them....!

I'll need to check the stats from SM/TL when I get home, but as far as I can recall the nose gun is a battlecanno, Ian.

Right, I've just checked the rulebook that came with Ork & Squat Warlords, and the Iron Eagle Gyrocopter had a nose-mounted battlecannon and two tail-mounted autocannon.

You could use the cheaper ducted fans for R/C aircraft... I got some in a GWS B2 Bomber kit. Your local Hobby Shop should have or bea ble to get some.
I mean a REAL Hobby Shop. Not A GW.

If you are going to use a landspeeder for the cockpit then they come with a couple of little wings you could use.

Try Bitz & Kitz for the pieces for a battlecannon. might be able to get amounting for it as well.

I suggest you buy plastic girder and make your own tail lattice. It isn't a difficult structure.

If you want to do it more easily, you could get railway bridge models which have the lattice girders already assembled.
