Very cool ship Cam, definately cast it. I've really been feeling an itch to start BFG, but I keep holding back thinking GW is about to release it again.

Not where I should be

Thank you folks,

@ Brian, yeah I know I have to add a shed load of Dakka, but probably going to add that after I make a cast of this basic shape. So you can vary it up a bit.
@ Tom, Thanks bud.
@ Syro, Ta and yes I know what you mean, they will have it out before I finish this project just to make mine a mockery.

OK little bit more done, been busy IRL, and other stuff.

I could do with some help on this I think I am in the ballpark for scale but would like to know if i am drastically off or not.

Thanks for looking.

I'm here to serve. You're about on point for BFG scale. The top ship is an Ork Battleship, the bottom is an Ork Cruiser.

Note: Your x-axis on the pad is in cm, mine is in inches.

NOTE: This is original BFG. God only knows what scale they'll launch 'new' BFG with, if they ever do. See the new Adeptus Titanicus and how those models are easily 4x-5x the size of the original "Epic" scale.

Hope this helps!

Great stuff! That spitting squig is crazy cool, and I agree about the gloss/slobber being brilliant. I'd try to get the rest of the squig even duller for more contrast with it personally.

So many great BFG ork scratch builds out there - I'm sure yours will be worthy entries to the field! I look forward to some inspiration.

@ Brian that is brilliant thank you, really helpful. Yeah I am somewhere near I think. And I hear you on the size thing, seems everything is getting bigger.

Thanks folks.

Been a bit slow, life encroaching, but last 24 hours I made the molds and started casting up the Ork space ships.

As you can see first casts are problematic, usually learn where you messed up.

Hoping that talc will improve things but this does not really disturb me, can be either just space damage, or I can fill them easy enough.

And after a little mucking about...

Still very WIP, but I will mess about and add some details including most importantly more dakka.

Thank you for looking in.

What are you using for molding and casting?

The best part of casting Orks is that there are no miscast, only deviations on the designs.

That's really cool Cam. Never saw anyone attempt anything like that before.

Not where I should be

Thanks folks,

@ Brian see below for the stuff I am using currently. I am quite happy with it. I could get better results with a slower resin, and probably should spend more time being a bit more precise about my work, but I am very impatient.

Little more progress...

Bit of GS work and starting to shape up, tomorrow DAKKA!

Here you go Brian.
Silicone.

Sets up in a few hours, fantastic tear resistance, brilliant detail. Very happy with this product. Ebay job.

Resin.
My go to resin is this.

Sets up fast, I mix it by eye and it very rarely gives me any problems.

I am trying this one out,

Did first cast today, I like it so far, but got to see how it works out, bit more expensive and slower.

And I have been using this for several clear projects and have been fairly happy.

Again, and this is a biggy, this sets up fast, I mean like lightening compared to most clear stuff. So far I have had mixed results. It has worked a treat more than half the time, but a couple times it set up with lots of bubbles. Basically not enough time for them to escape before it sets. But I am happy enough.

Here is a pic of a bunch of molds.

And you can see I often give myself a large intlet and outlet. Easier to pour and side effect is....

Which can make...Tank traps/barriers.

Well thanks for looking folks. As always all comments welcome.

Nice! I've been a Renyolds/Smooth-On guy for all my life, nice to see some options.

As for bubbles, have you considered a vibration table or hand-vibration tool? It works wonders for taking bubbles out, even in fast-setting resin!

Thanks Brian.

And it is something I may look into long term. Not really sure I do enough to warrant it at this stage.

So added a bit of Dakka.

And started on some more ships...

So got probably enough for now.

Just got to finish up the odds and start painting.

Thank you for looking in, all thoughts appreciated.

Wow you got those painted up fast. The fleet looks great Cam, I love that every ship has some differences from the others, very orky that way. Having bad moons colors, I can't help thinking of them as a a deadly fleet of space taxis , but in all seriousness, the fleet looks great, and I hope to see it on a game table sometime.
