Got this tournement coming up in a couple months and I need to go from Grey minis to award winning painted Dark Angels and I need your help to get there. I haven't played DA really and we have a strange tourney structure. Basicly it is a Team Tournament where each player brings 1000 pts and partner up with another 1000 pt army. You have to have an HQ and a Troop choice after that you can have two more troops, an Elite, a Fast and a Heavy. there are floaters for the Elite, Fast and Heavy section that you squabble over which army gets it. So basicly in the end you have one normal FOC that you have divided up amongst two armies. Does that make sense?
With that having been said we are going with a DeathWing/RavenWing combined list and this is what it looks like:

As you can see I have 115 points left over from the DeathWing list. I am debating cutting some fat and sticking a Dread in there or perhaps another Vindicator. What are your thoughts? Is it balanced? Am I going to get hosed? Do I have too much or too little troop killy vs. tank busty?

Looks good to me.
I'd consider a Dread with assault cannon and heavy flamer.

2000 pts and only 28 figures.

It is actually 30 as it stands, but I get your point and that is something that is troubling. With my old Tyranid army I tried to use the 3:1 ratio, so this is painful. But the idea is to deep strike the termies on the objectives and rush the bikes in last second so where we lose it in numbers we pick it up in shenanigans. Is this too naive? Also I was thinking about throwing a Whirlwind in there as well as a Chap banner to make up that 115pts. Think a Dread is a better choice?

A Dread is a better choice.
It could hold up a small Gaunt brood forever if necessary.

In my humble opinion, one of the Deathwing squads could do to have a Heavy Flamer. It's invaluable against hordes, and giving volume of fire.

Failing that, toss it on a Dread. I myself find direct shooting to be a bit more unreliable than good old templates.

Okay, so time and again I am hearing "Dread," so be it Dread it is. Then I am also hearing Heavy flamer. Now I need 10pts to get a vanilla dread. Should I drop an AC or a Cyclone to get it? I can turn either weapon to get a Heavy Flamer on the given Term Squad and potentially the Dread, and if I drop an AC I can get a Heavy Flamer on the dread with 10pts to spare or just go with extra armor for it.

I would put the Cyclone on the lightning claws and put in a banner +1 attack for the squad. Also drop the assault cannons for heavy flamers. Also drop the Apothicary for the termies and put him in the bikes to ignore a plasma get hot wound.

I'd drop the power weapon and give him melta bombs.

yeah, that banner is pretty groovy. The thing with this is each army list can not go over 1000pts. So if I want an Apothicary in the RavenWing I need to drop something. Should I drop the power weapon to get an Apothicary? then with the DW list i could drop the Apoth, grab the banner freeing 5 more pts, drop the ACs for H. Flamers freeing 50 more pts (for a total of 170), buy a dread w/ 45 pts left over. That could make it venerable w/ a plasma cannon and H. flamer! Otherwise i could buy the dread w/ AC and H. Flamer and have 40pts to spend... perhaps buying that apothicary back and a couple chain fists.

I pulled my DW/RW out this past weekend.

I spamed the Apothecary. It was sickening what you can do with the RAW DA Narthacium. Band Aids were flying in all directions. Failed cover saves with LRC? Here's a Band Aid.

You are running Sammael and Belial. Play the RW Apothecary, DW Apothecary, and a Command squad with an Apothecary. Keep them reasonably close and prevent wounds and failed Armor cover.

Just a thought.
