Page 35 of the Daemons Codex briefly mentions Blue Horrors in the Pink Horrors entry. Would I be able to count Blue Horrors as Pink Horrors. What I mean by that is buying the Pink Horror models and painting them blue, as I'm no good at painting pinky colours. Would this be allowed as the Codex specificially refers to "Pink Horrors" in the army lists, or would I have to follow WYSIWIG and paint them pink?
Sorry if this question is a bit weird but this was the best way I could describe it.
Thanks,
Valk

Their name is Pink Horrors. This does not mean you have to paint them pink, any more than you have to paint Space Marines Blue (what with it being Codex Ultramarines and all).
If someone gets pissy, say "Are you a Dæmon? No, you are not. They are pink to other Dæmons, what your pitiful moral eyes see is of no consequence to the Great All Knowing Tzeentch!"

One thing someone did that I liked was to make all the horror the standard pink color, and then make the squad upgrade with the Doom Bolt as two horrors on a base painted blue.
But otherwise color doesn't matter at all.

And if you really can't have pink in your army because you're scared to look like a sissy to some slowed gaming group who's still stuck in 20th century mentality then so be it, paint it another color, but at least have the decency to pick any other color EXCEPT BLUE.

This is like saying that my red orks are wrong. Gwar is quite right there is no such thing as a set colour for anything, and i don't think i would play if there was set colours ... hell its like forcing a space marine player to paint his minis blue.

You may get comments from older players. Many, many moons ago pink horrors would split into two smaller blue horrors when wounded.

Ok I clearly stated in the OP why I'm painting them blue, and you really have no right to criticize me on my choice of colours and ability to paint them. If you're not going to contribute a proper response to the thread, then just stay completly off the thread.

Horrors range in colours alot, mostly pink / blue / white tones.
I see no problem with painting them any colour you like.
There is no rule stating you must paint them pink.
Now, if there were different rules for blue and pink horrors, there may be problems, but since its a single profile for the daemon, theres nothing wrong with it.

I could actually see this working... Maybe a faction of Orks that really believe in the Power of Red. They paint themselves red, and get +1 I, and 1d6+1 Run rolls.

Bottom line, there is absolutely no rule requiring you to paint your models a particular color. WYSIWYG applies to upgrades and wargear, not the units/models themselves. Thus the only time WYSIWYG might require a particular paint color is the ork vehicle upgrade Red Paint Job.
Hope this helps!

I ask, because I have a GK army. If I were to buy some regular marines, I might want to try out the various chapters to see which one work best with GK allies.

I would. Pick an Army that you like and stick to it. Don't pick an army because they are "good", pick an army that you like the fluff of and enjoy painting. In any case, 40k is not as broken as Fantasy. Every army can win against another army (with a few exceptions, mainly when an all mech army is against an army with no anti tank, but that's the no-anti tank players fault). It's down to generalship skills mostly.

Not everyone plays Warhammer 40k for the love of fluff or painting. In fact, I hate the painting aspect; I generally try to buy prepainted armies from eBay or something.

Friendly I would prob allow it for you to sort out your list.
Tourney related, no, oh hell no. You want to use blue and yellow marines, they are plain jane codes marines. It allows for too much confusion per round of an already possibly confusing event.

Of course, the marines codex specifically allows for players to invent their own color schemes for a new chapter so that is one option. Arent sure if you prefer Blood Angels or Dark Angels? Paint your guys up in dark red and voila! You have a brand new chapter who is a splinter from.......whichever one you want them to be at the moment.
If you want to clearly show which army you are fielding at any given moment then pick up an extra tac squad and paint half of the guys with Blood Angels derived insignia and the other half with Dark Angel insignia, then use whichever type you are playing that day sprinked amongst your squads. The more "friendly" the game setting the more likely this is to be accecpted without question. For tournements you might well be downgraded on your army, if thats being taken into consideration in the rankings.
Really tho there shouldnt be much of a reason to switch which marine codex you use. If you like a particular codex then you probably have built your army around that codex, so switching would require the addition of large number of new models to add in whatever the focus of the other army would be.
That said, one of the reasons to build and play marines is the theme, the background and fluff as it were. So taking an army meticulously painted up as Blood Angels and calling them Space Wolves for a weekend tourney will probably not sit well. Playing one special codex type (BA, DA, SW or BT) as a diff special codex would of course draw the most fire, playing a special codex as vanilla marines would probably fly fine.
