Post a pic and description of qualities. Keep it SFW and otherwise dakka-compliant.
For me:
red hair + pale skin + freckles = Manchu's beside himself
Fortunately for me, the soon-to-be Missus Manchu is a dead ringer for Amy Adams--except that Missus Manchu has prettier hair but not Amy's baby blues. Pity that as I'd like to guarantee our children sparkling sapphire's like their father's. Moving right along, I prefer a woman to be somewhere between 5'5" and 5'7" and have that fine-boned body shape but no ribs showing, either. I find that most women can be attractive just by keeping up with their hair and clothing so this is another thing I look for. Slobby or trashy-looking women are right out. TBH, I'd rather her hobby was looking nice rather than butting into my interests. (In my experience, gaming with a current/potential significant other is nothing but trouble.) Manners are also a big deal to me. I've dated socially awkward girls and found the experience off-putting since I tend to be a fairly gregarious person myself. Personality-wise, I'm attracted to confidence and conviction over the simpering attitude that some men seek out. In that vein, I prefer innocence to vulnerability. I find the habit of complaining about babies crying or children misbehaving unseemly enough in a man but totally repugnant in a woman. I'm glad to be marrying a woman of strong faith even if we don't see eye to eye on each and every point although I doubt I would have sought it out before I met her. More than anything, I respect a woman who looks at the world with optimism and curiosity.
Well, Dakka--what about you? What's your ideal SO like?

Well, I know who wears the purse in your houesehold.
Tolerant is a good one. But do you mean open-minded about the world or patient with you in particular? Sadly, Mrs. Manchu is more of the former than the latter.

While I place a lot of emphasis on physical beauty, I don't really have an attachment to a specific sort of appearance. I've been with hipsters, hippies, athletes, nerds, bohemians, and just about every other physical archetype you can imagine. Some celebrity examples:
I do like my relationships to be adversarial, so any conversation which is reminiscent of a knife fight tends to pique my interest. I don't stand on tradition, and I prefer women who are willing to flaunt convention, even if they only do so in private. By extension, I expect any long term partner to be able to control her normal impulses when necessary, and generally find the ability to construct useful lies to be very interesting. Intelligence is also important, though only in the sense that I expect to be understood after minimal explanation.
Of course, none of this matters if I don't care if the association lasts more than a week or two.

Whoa, d, you weren't kidding abut being all over the place. Good man. That picture of Zhang Ziyi makes me think back to my undergrad days. Almost all of my friends were Chinese and Korean so nearly all the girls I dated were either Chinese or Korean. I kind of regret it now. Not because there's anything wrong with them but I feel like I was too limited aesthetically. On the other hand, I'm not really attracted to any of the ladies you've posted, including Zhang Ziyi. The first one, who I do not recognize, looks like a trap version of Tobey Maguire.

That's Zooey Deschanel, I believe, and she's no trap. I believe she's in her 20s?

Well, if we're talking dark-haired singer/songwriter hipsters then I'd rather go with Rachael Yamagata.
But maybe that's because I like her music whereas, now that I've heard some of it, I do not like this Tobeytrap's music.

Hmm... somewhat of a loaded question.
Personality? Someone who can put up with me and my mental states (woo for being mad) and at least vaguely keep up intellectually. My friends and I will randomly launch into discussions about such topics as whether we can model strombulite growth and eddies by taking a theoretical pipe flow model with infinite width, or what modifications could be genuinely done to turn a human into a modified soldier (I know that the constant growth and replacement of bones means that you could pull the ribs out closer to each other and flattened, I think that encouraging the transverse process (side sticky out bits) of lumbar vertebrae (the bits of your spine between your ribs and your hips) to extend and flatten in a similar manner would help protect the vulnerable kidney region from back strikes. Not sure how the ribs would affect breathing, whether they'd lock too tight and have to rely on diaphragm. I need to check tortoise biology to see if they have a solution of rely on slow metabolism.) <---- I'd need someone who could get at least part of that with a little explanation. And sorry for getting distracted, although thinking about whether SM modifications would work is at least forum relevant.
I couldn't get together with someone overly religious. Period. Do what you want in private, I'm willing to accommodate a reasonable amount, but I'm not interested in the overly devout (I'm content being atheist, thanks.) Although on an amusing note, it was interesting talking about kosher and halal foods with my housemates; apparently both rabbis and imams tend to get stumped if you ask them if kangaroo is an acceptable meat to eat.) And I'm hoping that this paragraph doesn't conflict with any of the rules of dakkadakka.
Appearance? Well, I can give some features I find appealing, but nobody I've dated has all of them. That probably goes for everyone though.
I like long hair in both genders, and nice shoulders, backs and buttocks are sexy. (I feel I should add a disclaimer here before some peoples' minds run off on them. I am female. I am bisexual. I have dated both genders. Get over it.) If a guy has facial hair, it must be neatly clipped and not a massive beard. Large breasts are actually a turn off for me. I'll freely admit I have little to no interest in people who are considerably overweight. I'm willing to state I'm not being fair in that regard. Appearance is not a great concern of mine, I don't really care what someone wears as long as long as it isn't hideously bogan.
I don't really have any photos handy. >> Think of most charming villains, I have a thing for matchingly evil. *snickers*

Gah, here we go.
As I tend to be a rather quiet person unless prodded, someone who is proactive, rather than re-active. I am willing to give, but only if it receives acknowledgment. I'm very much a 50-50 person, what you give me I'll give back and all that sort of rubbish. Also preferable is someone who can calm me down, for although I tend to have a quiet exterior, those who know me well know that there is quite a fire within.
As for looks, I'm quite Manchu's opposite. Asians, mostly. However, I'm quite willing for almost anybody. I tend to have a strange fascination with faces, so a cute/pretty/beautiful face is certainly points in my book.

@Morgrim: This is OT. Your paragraph about religion is the tamest few sentences on that topic to ever be written in this corner of Dakka. Also, thanks for the candid response.
@Cryonicleech: Interesting point about looking for a proactive personality. That balance of energy is really important. I also have a fascination with faces. For me, a hideous face cannot be overcome by any other physical attribute although a beautiful face won't overwhelm other grotesque features, either.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Chemistry is huge for me. I've done both extremes in terms of body shape and I've been burnt out on "skinny girls." Apparently once a female has had weight they can't ever get over that fact and it drives me insane. I don't fething care what someone looks like if we've got hair, boobs bigger than my hand and a shapely butt (whether large and juicy or small). I give a lot of leeway on faces because you can only do so much about them, but as long as the female tries to look nice I'm usually happy. I like women I can relate to and that try to get me. I also like them to be tolerant of my crazy, so they're allowed some crazy themselves. I like them to be creative as well. Turn-ons, though not obligatory: Outgoing Happy Self-confident Turn-offs: Loud Needy Could care less about trying to look nice That being said, my present girl is absolutely beautiful We drive each other a little crazy sometimes, but the good overwhelmingly outweighs the bad and we're going on three years.

My ideal woman is a theoretical angel being that I'm pretty sure can't exist, so pulling my head out of the clouds I think I'm pretty close to what dogma stated. I'm xenophillic though, so I'm not a particular fan of traditional girl next door tropes. I think I also value intelligence and independence slightly more than he describes. I knew a very smart blonde girl. My GF, no like I said she was real smart.
crazy, yes that can be a big negative, but on the other hand there are different types of crazy. The crazy I look for is unconventional, imaginative, playful and spontaneous and will hold those energetic virtues past her teenage years. Its rarer than you might suppose.
