I'm trying to build some unique looking IG Vets for cheap. I want them to carry shotguns; but I just don't know what bitz to use to make them stand out against normal Cadians or Catachans. I was thinking of putting together Catachan legs, Cadian torsos, some random fantasy and 40k heads. Also I wasn't sure if the SM scout shotgun arms fit the bodies either. I just don't want to go out and buy the parts and find out what I wanted doesn't look right or worse waste my money. I know converting is sometimes trial and error but I'm trying to do my homework on this before shelling out $... Any input on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

How cheap is cheap here?

Because if you *really* want nice looking vets that can stand out from the rest of your force...

Forge World's Cadian Shotgun veteran conversion kits really are worth the money.

I'm talking like buying a few bitz from ebay or warstore. I'm trying to not spend more than $35 for 10 guys.

Well, SM shotguns won't really fit the bill either way. The arms are a bit too big.

However, there should be a guide somewhere of cutting Cadian Lasguns down into shotguns. I can't recall exactly how, but there could be one around.

Oh, and another thing to think about is the fact that the Stormtrooper kits *should* be coming out fairly soon and they will quite likely have shotguns on the sprues.

Yea, I was wondering when and/or if they would be out. I'm trying to have at least 2 squads of them on the table in a month or so.

I was quite fearful of buying said SM shotguns and the arms be drastically bigger that the rest of their body.

I'll look around for the guide to cut down the lasguns. I hate the look of how small they will be though. I think if I cut the magazine off they will look tiny.

Well, the other part that I recall is that underneath of the barrel the handgrip from a bolter is placed to represent the "rack".

You should review the size of modern shotguns. They are one of the simplest types of firearms around, and hence they are usually pretty small. If you are concerned about size, however, you could try adding a drum magazine for a more auto-shotgun look (street sweeper, jackhammer, etc).

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

one modelling snafu to watch out for is to not use regular catachan legs but to use the new command squad ones. the catachan legs include a belt and buickle in the normal set while the belt and buckle on the cadians are on the bottom of the torso. if you combine the two you'll have a double belted guardsmen. cutting off one is an obvious solution but the new catachan command set has the belt on the torso so that may save you a step or two.

For shotguns you can just try converting your lasguns with a modelling knife. Cut the gun barrel off ( keep a hold of it ). Then cut the stock back maybe half a centimeter or more depending on your preferences. Then take the gun barrel and cut off the slanted part of the muzzle so its even. Clear up any cut marks with gentle filing then reglue the gun barrel back to the upper end of the stock by the thickest end. That gives you a basic shotgun. You can also mess about with the guns magazine by cutting it off and green stuff a bullpup style loader to the side or underside of the gun if you feel adventurous.

Hope some of that comes in use.

For the belt problem, you can just cover it with grenades

There are two belts but you cant tell at all
