so as most tyranid player and other players who play attention to the new updates, most of you have probably seen the codex or heard of things that are in it,

so my question is based on what youve seen whhat will the new chease be or just some plain tactics with it

in my opinion it will be trygons up the asss with thier deepstrike hole then have hordes rushing from thier reserve hordes or like the space marines mass drop seed similiar to the drop pod

We don't really know. We can guess that there might be a MC list, a swarm list and a scary tremors like DS list. Once we know the points we can start to see what will be the most effective builds.

Till we know more i think we can only cover the basics.

All imperial players will want a DH inquisitor with mystics.

Rending and Poison attacks (snipers, grot prods, H.kiss, ect) will be wanted to throw wounds on high toughness models (if your lucky you might have lots of str8-10 weapons)

Flamers .... last ditch before they over run you.

and simply Mech up.

There is a list posted on BOLS right now for an all pod list. It looks pretty scary, but shares the same issues as all pod armies. Except this one has dangerous pods...

Yeah, pods with barbed stranglers? And they count as monstrous creatures in close combat? That's the sort of vicious that 40K needs. If this is the trend in Codexes, I can't wait to see what's next.

hmm, sounds interesting i typically cant wait to use the over monstrous things of tyranids just to go rock the boat on all land raiders while my opponent has issues just getting out the door

I see Very little (except the ‘tropes) in the form of INV saves. Looks like an overall shift to CC and overall psyker shut down.

*Like the new Lash Whip rules; really cool for MC going against dreadnoughts and other MC’s. Single powerful units pretty much be warned

Warriors in general aren’t too bad. W3 is crazy, but Long fang crack missiles will have a field day. The 30 Termagants around them should give them cover …

Genestealer look to have huge squads. W/ Broodloard (toned down). Infiltrate standard. Worth it to take 1-6 every game. Even a small squad can stay hidden and provide pressure turn one.

Guants, cheap, but not orks. Faster then orks, but not as durable. Plus the whole wall of guns Shoota boys can field. Not super scared of these guys.

Winged Warriors… Faster Bone sword guys. No rending here though and worse save. Small squad could wipe out most units.
Pair of Swords + Furious upgrade. On charge, Lots of Power weapons with minor re-rols and the whole instant death thing. Come here thunder cav and biker nobs.

Ravener… still Beast. possibly lots of rending attacks. Big squad size

Gargoyles… I like them better than gaunts because they fly for the same cost. Swarm a flanking unit... haha swarm...

BIOVORE… welcome back to the nid army. It may not seem like a lot, but these guys don’t cost too much either. Squad of 3 and drop 3 large blast templates.

Someone confirm, the Carnifex can take a PAIR of twin-linked MC devourer without loosing any attacks. Everyone knows Carnies in squads are fun, but really, Dakka fex AND screamer killers? Break out a can of silly string.

There are some broken things if the codex is correct. For instance, Tervigons giving units feel no pain, Tyranofex is a unit with toughness 6, 6 wound and regenerate.

Both are monstrous creatures. Tervigons can screen Tyranofexes.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

One tactics could rely on the new pods that can carry up to 20 normal models or one MC.

I am going to run 6 units of stealers with a tervigon and trygon.

tervigon just sits back and poops gaunts on some objectives, 4 units of stealers outflanking, 2 units in reserve.

trygon pops out somewhere in the center field, stealers swarm, win.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

Agree with the earlier posts its a little early to tell, but definately some things I've noticed from reading most of the confirmed rumors/info:

1. Monstrous Creatures are plain nasty for bugs now.
2. Almost the entire list has the option to outflank/infiltrate/drop pod in.
3. Terigons may be almost broken if they can continue to pop out troops, grant feel no pain and act as synapse creatures to large broods of cheap troops.
4. Loss of Eternal Warrior is going to make power fists/thunder hammers/Missile Launchers a must for dealing with medium to large size bugs.
5. Mawloc spamming may be the new thing - hide your guys in the center of the board to avoid genestealers outflanking and get ready to take Str6 AP2 large blast templates.
6. Psychic powers are extremely nasty in that they can seriously downgrade the close combat abilities of enemy squads. Psychic hoods or other nullifying items are really going to be needed.
7. The potential for a lot of large blast weapons is out there if people want shooty bugs.
8. Zoanthropes will be amazing for tank busting. Increases to their BS, as well as Str 10 Lance shots 18" are incredible - popping land raiders on a 3+ - yeah!

What do you guys think about a full melee aspect with only Zoanthropes as shooting?

I have a mix of small, medium and big bugs all kitted out for close combat.

As far as I see it, the codex now gives me many possibilities to come from the sides, from the sky and through the ground, thus tarpitting the enemy till my other stuff arrives...

Can Tyranids work as a melee-only army with the new codex? Better than before even?

I'm not a huge fan of that list. It looks like it auto-loses to anyone with a properly constructed army who thinks to bring an Inquisitor with Mystics.

Can a small (gaunt/hormagaunt/gargoyle) to mid-sized (zoey, ravenor, biovore, hive guard, warrior) nid force with maybe 1-2 MCs (non-trygon or variants) be competitive? I hope so.

Despite what people say about Tyranid Warriors losing eternal warrior they did gain drop pods basically and are pretty damn good. i wouldnt be surpised to see some "termicide" style Tyranid warrior lists.

Absolutely. Podding Warriors backed up with lots of Zoanthropes with winged Warriors and winged Tyrants to bring the psychic nastiness. I get an evil grin a mile wide just contemplating it. If only I could decide on a color scheme!

Full units of Warriors with Deathspitters, especially when backed up by an Alpha will be really deadly. That's a whole lot of Str 5 shots. Even losing Eternal Warrior you only have less than a 1/3 chance of dropping one with a Missile Launcher after you factor in rolls to hit, wound, and the cover save from Gaunt screens. I think MIDzilla lists will have some good potential for extra meanness.

From England. Living in Shanghai

I believe we are entering a new era for codices. As with the ork, marine and IG books we are likely to see several different yet effective builds. Here are some of them:

Ground and pound (stolen from Shep)
Basically a load of solid foot troops backed up by a few tough MC's (carnifexes, tyrants and tervigants). It's durable enough to withstand a pounding and still inflict harsh damage on the enemy once they get into their lines.

Alpha strike
A pod list backed up by lictors and whichever tyrant grants +1 to reserves as well. A turn 2 almighty pod assault will be difficult to deal with when they are in your lines that quickly. Should work best with a lot of mawloc and zoanthrope support and warrior heavy. Bring so many multi wound models that your opponent can't possibly deal with them all. Warriors and mawlocs hit hard when they land and any little bugs (hormagaunts) act as the clean up crew. Inquisitor and mystics can make this list weep, but still not every list will have these in it.

There are still some other builds that I haven't mentioned (horde and nidzilla), primarily because I think most people already know these 2 quite well. I'm sure there will be even more that we haven't yet figured out and when we do that's when the real fun will start.

I think one of the big lists, at least initially, will be as many MCs as possible (ironically probably no Carnifexes) with two Troop Tervigons churning out scoring units throughout the game.

Zoans are good, however that's still a psychic test. With the popularity of SW and the range of Zoans, consider this;
1. Pass the psychic test
2. Hope it doesn't get nullified, which it will 50% of the time
3. After all of that, you still miss 33% of the time.
4. They are only T4 with a 3+. Rapid fire will still kill one, perhaps 2 if the melta hits/wounds and you fail your 3++.

All this talk and nobody mentioned Hive Guard yet. Probably the 2nd strongest choice in the dex (1st belonging to the Tervigon, geez what a no brainer pick).

Gants screen Hive Guard
Hive Guard screen Tervigon
Tervigon gives Hive Guard FNP

3 Units of Hive Guard pump out 18 Str. 8 shots at BS 4 that don't need LOS and don't grant wall cover. This is on a 2 wound, T6, 4+ AS/CS, FNP chassis. To compare:

Long Fang with ML = 25 points
1 wound, T4. Effective range 48". Single role; shooting.

Hive Guard with cannon = 50 points
2 wounds, T6. Effective range 30". Can handle assault too.

I really see the more powerful lists being those that take advantage of the new Gargoyles. Just hands down one of the best units in the game now with a 6 to wound a 4+ to wound and reroll vs MEQ or equivalent.

Add in a 30 man squad also puts out a good number of shots at ST4 another advantage.

Tyranid Warriors w/ Wings following behind straight up 35 points for a 3w flyer is brutal despite being non scoring they come standard with Scything Talons.

2 Kitted out Carnifexes and 2 Trigons is around 900 points. Add in the 200+ for the Hive Tyrant.

Really the Trigon and Mawloc are such a better buy than the Carnifexes but wht carnifexes do is spread out the Heavy support choices.

You wont see lists with 9 Carnifexes but taking advantage of getting the 1-3.

Well, with two Hive Tyrants with Tactical Instinct (?) You'll roll on 2+ for your reserves on turn 2.
Fit in as many Pods and outflankers as you can plus the odd Trygon prime for synapse.
Even the look on the opponent's face will be worth it on turn 2.

And worth every single one!
No, seriously, i see where you're coming from. All i would give them is tactical instinct and toxic blood.
comes out at 210p, 420 for both. Try to keep them covered and you'll be fine.
Most opponents will "forget" them by turn two, when your flood of outflankers (tervigons ) and deepstrikers rolls in.
In games of at least 1500 points i see it as a viable combo until i can falsify it by actually trying )

Unit interactions are just so crucial now. I listed a bunch of thoughts from a test game in Shep's thread, but one example is how a unit of charging adrenal gland Hormagaunts wiped out 5 Terminators in their I6 step thanks to the Termies having the WS1 whammy placed on them. So 60 attacks on the charge, hitting on 3s, rerolling 1s, etc. It's disgusting.

Which brings me to my next point. There are so many glass hammers in the book that I think you gotta be fast, gotta be slippery and gotta keep the initiative and let the offensive potential of the army (and it's a lot of potential) rule the day. Pods and deep strikers are obvious here, and units like Mawloc and Death Leaper let you use some elusiveness tactics that I think will also be effective. I'm sure other army builds will emerge.

One thing I like about the new Tyranids is some of the built-in redundancies. You can down big targets in CC with Tyrants, bonesword Warriors or with toxin sac Hormagaunts. You can shoot side and rear armor with S5-armed Warriors, S6-armed pods or S6-armed Trygons. Certain units like Zoeys and Hive Guard can't really be duplicated, but when it comes to close combat punch and S5-6 shooting, there's lots of it throughout the army.
