I really loved the single player campaign. I played through it in a whole day on a saturday when I was snowed in

first time I ever really felt like I was playing in a movie. between the graphics and the awesome theatrical sounding score and everything.
Agreed. I did kind of go "Oh, holy f**k. This guy is a sadistic bastard." when he unloaded into the first crowd, and proceeded to slaughter his way through the airport. But I wasn't bothered by it. I knew it was relevant to the story in some way, and that all would be explained when I beat the level (And it was - beautifully I might add).
There are people out there that started up with the whole "Videogames are evil hellspawn!" crusade when news of the level got out, but unless you're dense in the skull and can't tell a video game from reality or a negligent parent and you don't pay attention to the
M Rated games your underage kids are playing (Not that most kids would shoot up an airport anyway), there's really nothing wrong with the level at all. We see movies about Ethnic cleansing, Nuclear armageddon, and other atrocities all the time, but people don't go screaming bloody murder about that because "It's just a movie". The way I see it, that's a legit arguement here as well. It's just a video game. There was even a warning included, so anyone that wanted to skip the level very well could, at the expense of a slice of plot development.
