About 5 years ago, I took a stab at writing a Star Wars Empire codex for 40K. It was playtested at the FLGS for a few weeks, with some positive and negative feedback. It was meant to be used with those plastic pre-painted SW figures (wizards of the coast?). Anyhow, I was digging through some very old computer archives, and found it again, so I thought I'd post it up for a laugh. Keep in mind it was written with 4th Edition in mind quite a while back when ripping it to shreds. My ruleswriting skills are considerably better now that I have some decent experience at it under my belt, but rather than redesigning it, this is more of a trip down nostalgia lane.

Codex: Star Wars:The Empire

Hey there!

Codex: Star Wars: The Empire is a fan made codex designed to allow a person to use Star Wars figures and characters in Games-Workshops Warhammer 40K game.It is not in any way official, and must only be used with your opponents consent.

This is only a Beta version, and the final model is still in production(and playtesting)so suggestions and comments are always appreciated. ^_^

Designers note:

I was talking with some friends about how cool it would be if we could match races from other Sci-Fi universes against the 40K ones. One's that came up consistently were the Daleks, all the Star Wars races, Starship Troopers, and a few others. Star Trek was dismissed in about ten seconds, with Stargate and the Cybermen following quite quickly. The Xenos from Alien were briefly discussed, but were dismissed as being too much like the Tyranids. Reconfiguring LOTR rules was also discussed, but boiled down to something along the lines of, 'I have ten Elven Bows versus.....A Land Raider and a Dreadnought.....well, damn...'. I was also limited by what races figures of roughly a 40K size could be procured for. In the case of the Empire, Wizards of the Coast figures serve fairly well. They're pretty much 40K size. Admittedly, they do come pre-painted, and in random packs, which is annoying, but if one goes to Ebay, it is possible to buy whatever figures one wants for ones army. They are the ones pictured alongside the statistics. Where no figures are available, I've endeavoured to list how appropriate conversions or alternate models might be used.

The army list has been designed to keep the Imperial army in characters whilst not being broken or too weak respectively. The wargear and stats have also been designed from the extended Star Wars Universe (otherwise we'd be using structure points for the AT-AT, and the Stormtroopers would be BS-2- I mean just look at the guys in the movie!- they couldn't hit the back of a barn door!) If you're not too familiar with the SW Universe, and you're thinking, 'Hang on. Weren't there only two Sith?', you'd be wrong. During the reign of the Emperor many other Sith and Dark Jedi were trained/cloned/whatever, such as Hethrir, Carnor Jax and suchlike..
Special Characters will be following soon in the Gamma version, as will the complete rules for the Force User ability, and an extended fluff section.

I previously produced a rough version, but this is slightly more polished(though it still has a way to go). So enjoy!!!!

I like it!

(Can you get the stats sorted out? I sometimes found it a little confusing)

Really? BS 4 for stormtroopers?

When was the last time you saw a Storm Trooper hit something he was shooting at? They should be BS 2

(Try using an underscore, maybe?)

As for the BS, you can't really blame the stormtroopers in the movie. They suffered from 'plot failure'. A relatively rare condition which ensures that nothing, no matter the logic involved, can kill of the main characters.

So would they have the Death Star in their BFG fleet, or just a lot of Star Detroyers, tie fighters, etc??

I think that the Death Star would be at least on par with the Planet Killer. (Then again, I heard that in one of the countless SW fiction novels there was a ship that could kill whole Solar Systems or something)

A new day, a new time zone.

Its weapons were designed to be launched into a sun, do something funky to its core, and make it supernova within a span of hours, so technically yes, that would indeed be a system killer.

And really, for thematic purposes Stormtroopers should be BS 1, and only a couple points each so that they can die in droves.

Or maybe it's just Vader's personal entourage that really suck.

I may make an updated version of this sometime later on in the future for the FLGS. If I do, I'll post it up for you guys.

We have a guy at our local stores that has themed his entire army as Imperial stormtroopers. Space Marine obviously as he goes from expanded universe and not just movies.

The Sun Crusher is what destroys systems as it uses special harmonic torpedoes that destabilize the cores of stars. Interesting side note on the Sun Crusher. It is practically indestructible and took a shot from the third Death Star and Survived.

Death Star prototype, so more like zeroth Death Star. The Sun Crusher would be hard to represent well in BFG since it's nearly impossible to hit or damage but also almost completely unarmed.

You can use the Code tags to space things but for some reason whenever I write "WS" "BS" "Ld" or "Sv" it brings up a bunch of well... code. I don't entirely understand it, but for simple things you can make it spaced.
