Ok, I am a big fan of the dip painting style.
And I was woundering if dipping space wolves would turn out well. I have a can of army painter quickshade strong tone, but im not sure if the brown pigment would look good with a light blue paint job.
I could allways paint them up red, or green... But then its hard to call them space wolves.
I would try the dark tone if I had it. But this stuff is $30 a can, and im not to keen on rolling the dice on it without some pics.
So, has anyone out there ever tried to dip space wolves?

As a rule i would say never dip marines, especially not in the wrong colour tone.

Dipping should work nicely with wolf fur and other finely detailed parts, but not with light blue armour. Codex grey maybe, but light blue absolutely no. In general, if you want to benefit from dipping, you require suitable models and suitable colour scheme. Space Wolves models aren't totally unsuitable for dipping, as they have more details and less flat areas than average marines, but the colour scheme will give problems.

I can tell you from actually doing it, dipping SM isnt a good idea. I dipped the AOBR marines, because I hate marines and didnt feel like painting them all nice and pretty. So I dipped them, and even though I dont like SMs, I always think about how bad they look

First off, dipping is not a painting style. Its a "I'm to lazy to paint everything so I'm gonna dunk them in floor stain" style. And secondly, No.

The only time I would even consider dipping a SM would be if I was attempting to make Plauge Marines.

that is a dipped marine, turned out quite well i think. but it is in red, so the brow pigment would naturaly look better.
as for the dipping method... ive been called lazy at a tourney for dipping my nids, but i then pointed out to the guy that I was the one with the fully painted army while he still had most of his army tourney legal.
its quick, it gets compleat models on the table top, it looks better then most of the paint jobs you see at tourneys anyways, and did i mention quick??? so whats not to like?

Don't listen to the haters, Envy89. The dipping TECHNIQUE is a realistically acheivable way of painting miniatures. It would work very well with the Space Wolves' light blue-grey armour. Have you ever heard of Soft Tone before?
Perhaps this has gone un-noticed, but GW recomends using brown pigment when shading the recesses of SW' armour. Thus Soft Tone would be more than good for the job!
What you should do:
1. Paint your minis up.
2. Use watered down Badab Black, Devlan Mud and Orgryn Flesh to apply to specific areas. (Orgryn Flesh for the skin, Badab Black for the metalics, Devlan Mud for the Leathers...)
3. Dip your minis in Soft Tone and let them dry.
4. Base them, and finish the job with some anti-shine spray.
5. Done!
I'm hoping to (eventually) dip loads of SM in the future, and I know that this will work.
