So I think I picked up my firs Warhammer 40k paint set back in the late 1990's, maybe early 2000. Anyways i was about 12-13 then and it was all about slapping on some Ultramarines blue, battling it out, a few years later i'd spent thousands, had tons of ugly miniutaures, and grew out of what then was a fad for me. So I've grown up a bit. Been lurking here a few weeks, and decided i'm going to get back into the game. Looks like the Assult on Black Reach box is a pretty good deal right? Even if you were just buying it for the space marines its still cheaper than buying the models individually! I read around and it looks like the GW modeling kit is a good call to, so i was headed to get one of them also. Should I pick up a full size rulebook as well? The one included is one 112 (vs like 33X) and they call it a "pocket" book so I'm not so sure it will be all that functional...

Assault on black reach rulebook is really all you need. Same rules the hardcover just has extra background about all the armies. Dont know about the modeling kit havent gotten it. Welcome to dak dak BTWยก

Assault on black reach has a perfectly functional rulebook that is more conveniently-sized anyway. The rest of the hardcover rulebook is mostly about background fluff, collecting and painting. If you were into that back when you played in the 90's then you should already know most of the pertinent background, so save yourself the money. You'll be wanting more models anyway. Buy the Space Marine or Ork codex though, if you want to expand from the Black Reach set.
