Okay, so it's cyberpunk and inspired by some of the better anime and manga stuff out there (it all looks very Appleseed, which I like).
And looking at the rules, they look exciting. I like that they're based around a simple mechanic (roll under stat+Mods on D20) but give enough options for large amounts of tactical depth. Really like the reaction mechanic too. Things I'm not so clear on would be the advanced rules, as I got sleepy when I was reading them.
Models look sweet, although sometimes I'm not 100% on certain ones.
Where it falls down for me is the fluff. Man, that stuff is DENSE. Seriously. It's like reading a textbook at times. I can see what they were going for, at times, but it's just sort of boring. And the wording on many of the units is overly dense and sort of odd. I could get behind the basic idea of each faction, but when they started to explain them in detail I just couldn't keep caring. That, and the Scottish/American/French/Cossack/Dog Alien faction are DUMB.
What are other people's opinion on this stuff? Anyone a big fluff nut for infinity? Am I just lacking in attention span?
I might try a few proxy games, to see how I like the mechanics. If they're nice enough I could maybe see myself starting a small nomad force.

I think the fluff is the best part of infinity... its refreshing, it is new and there are no space elves on it or space orks, not to mention deamos and skulls and pointy things... i did not felt at all as in the text books
while the wording "issue" that you mentioned may be becasue the qriters are not native english speakers and maybe thats what you feel
For me the mechanics are fantastic but havent found anybody to play with cannot go into details... To be honest for me the main problem is that there is no cohesive look within the same army, obviously it is a subjective issue... but cannot imagine an army going to war with such disparity of units... this is not to say that the minis lokk bad... not at all... but i ould prefer more a unit base game than figure-based game--

The lack of unity wouldn't bother me much.
I suppose what I meant by textbook style was that they gave a little TOO much detail on the exact political structures, set ups of the various technologies and so on. It wasn't presented in a very exciting way.
I like the idea though, and I agree, for a miniatures game it is quite refreshing.

The thing is, Wolfen, it seems you just want the game to be completely different than it is.
If they ever make an Infinity: Full Out War styled thing? Then we'll see a unit based game. As it is now?
It's not that odd.
The whole idea is that it's units composed of different sets of skills. They're designed to complement each other.

Nahh I dont really think so, while I do prefer unit based games than skirmish style, I dont want to change the game in itself... i love the way Infinity seems to play, but my problem is with the cohesion of the forces (in subjective visual appeal). Now, with the secotrial forces, it seems that they will start to tackle this disparity within each force making them more cohesive in a visual point of view. Secondly, some time ago, they made an online survey on infinity webpage of what would be the "next" steps for developemnt... if i recall correctly squad based game was on top of that survey.
On a further, not so subjective opinion, Im not sure of the long term viability of metal miniatures, in my head i allways see RE example with confrontation, and in the long term i believe that Corvus Belli would need to change to a game that uses more and more minis... but thats just an assuomption NOT a truth

You think so? really? i thought it was exciting and, as a matter of fact, i enjoyed very much... specially the part where they talk about "visions from hell" it was like watching a documentary...

Think of the teams as something from a spy or robbery movie. You grab this guy to hack into the computer system, this guy to be the distraction, that gal to sneek by and the other guy to cover everyone's butt while they do it.
I haven't gotten my rulebook yet but it and some Nomads are in the mail and that really seems like how it would play out. Grab a couple private security people to fill out your crew, add a hacker, a couple zonds and maybe a special force member. Now you've got a great crew to go pull off a raid against a shipment of Aleph parts. But wait, the PanO saw it coming and pulled together a last minute team to stop you!
I've proxied a couple games and liked it, though the special rules part is the most confusing thing (mostly 'cause we don't have a hardcopy and flipping through the digital one is annoying) It is very refreshing and pushing me to like skirmish games way more than unit based games. And you could do a very unified force (especially with Sectoral forces). Just take a lot of one type of unit with different load outs. Sure it might not be the most competative, but then you can look more like a unit. Or just use similar painting throughout, combined with similar bases, to create a unifying look throughout

As I said... it is not the fluff or the idea behind... I imagine Dirty Dozen... Reservoir dogs... SAving private Ryan... all the same dress code
Buet heck...the game is GOOD the fluff is GREAT--- and finally there are no space -insert here your fantasy race/class-

I love Infinity. My group only played 40k and WFB until one of my friends decided "hey we should try out this infinity game." We've proxied a few games with 40k figs and its wonderful. The ARO system makes the game really dynamic and it doesn't seem to have the kind of cheese combos that seem to plague Warmachine/Hordes. The fluff and minis are both wonderful, and I can't recommend this game enough. Honestly, we might not be going back to GW.

I bought the first ed. rulebook and a starter box of figs (can't remember which faction now) and ground to a halt about 30 pages into the fluff. The writing style was turgid, to put it mildly! Never even got as far as the mechanics, and then now they've released a new edition I hear. So I likely never will, now. I'm sure others find it a good game, but for me I just couldn't find it worth the effort. Which is a shame as I find the minis rather pretty on the whole. Of course being totally intimidated by the prospect of painting them didn't help either! I should have learned after trying to battle through Confrontation 3 that me and rulebooks "translated" (and I use that word loosely at times) from foreign languages just don't get along! Particularly Mediterranean languages where they seem to love long, verbose prose using about 16 words when one would have done the job just as well!
