I got my eagerly anticipated GM Kit from Barnes and Noble's today...and was extremely disappointed. I mean really...all it is, is a rehash of the DH GM Screen with a few more weapons and the Base crew ratings. It doesn't even have the Ship Combat actions on it. Oh, its got some neat (if not regurgitated) art on it. The thin pamphlet that came with it has 4 pages of actual GM info, which are a few hastily thrown together charts. They *might* be useful. The other 23 pages are another adventure....whuppity.

Im usually very happy with FFG, but it seems like they have really been cutting corners on the RT stuff. The GM Kit definitely is not what I thought it would be. If you have a DH screen, I suggest you just use that and save your $20, unless you really need a new adventure.

I found most the of included scenario okay, I'm only disappointed with the included star system generator, which was promoted as a "just add water" feat but instead it leaves a lot to desired. The screen is what I expected it to be, so nothing wrong with that one.

I'm torn as to whether or not to pick this up now...

And BrookM, your new (well, new to me at least!) signature is quite good!

The adventure is ok, but that's really the only original content in the pack. As I said, the GM screen is just a rehash of the DH screen, and the random system/ship generators are really vague. Also, they said that there would be all new starships and such, but they are just the ones that are part of the adventure. No new ships, no new components, nothing really worth to justify paying $20 for it if you already have a Dark Heresy Gm Screen....unless your GM has no imagination and needs prefab adventures.

Ah.

And that alone makes me not want to buy it.

Thanks for saving my money kaiohx.

Thanks, it's from a time when the GW site featured Epic 40,000 and when they still had a sense of humour.

I just noticed too that it isn't a straight up Imperator, but the Warmonger (I think!) version...

Nice!

It is the Warmonger and as the old adage goes: Warmonger equals death.

*coughs*

Okay, back on topic..

What more could one expect of the RT screen other than a rehash of the DH screen, but with some extra tables here and there for quick ship reference. Having properly read through the adventure I think it's a good one, if a bit short and leaving a lot to the GM to work on. But a solid basis is there for a good adventure.

Well Brook, I'm glad your happy with paying $20 for an adventure. Me? I'd rather spend my hard-earned cash on something else than something I already own. As for expecting something else other than a rehash, yes, yes I could AND SHOULD expect that. No Ship Combat actions is just plain lazy.

They boasted there would be ship construction templates as well as as a host of new things in it, alluding to new components. What were those? Yu'vath components RT's can't even use that are really only used in the adventure.

Break down of the 32-page pamphlet that came with it:
Pages 1-3: Cover, Credits, Table of Contents (yes they count the cover as a page)
Pages 4-25: Adventure (as stated, its not bad if your hurting for something to do)
Pages 26-27: Ships of the Svard System (stuff used in the adventure)
Pages 28-29: 'Game-Mastering' tools. Four basic charts on creating a star system.
Pages 30-31: Adversary Starship generator. They Listed the ships from the main book and gave them numbers to randomly see what you encounter (except the cruiser).
Page 32: Back Cover (yes they counted that as a page as well).

Again, if you don't have a Dark Heresy GM screen, or just want it cause it's RT-themed, go for it.

Edit: I did look the screen over again and noticed it does have a small Extended Action box in the lower right hand corner to cover some ship stuff, but keep your book handy cause it doesn't actually tell you what they do, just a slight description.

Actually, I ordered mine through Maelstrom, so it doesn't sting as much as it's supposed to be.
