Hey guys, I played a lot of The Lord of the Rings until now but bought some Tau-models 5 years ago. I thought it'd be cool to paint them up again and get a few games with them so I sat down and cleaned them up again. I work on a 1500 points army for the moment, but want to be able to play at least 3000 later.

I started with the crisis suits, two pairs of fireknife pattern suits, a commander and two very very wip broadsides. I got 7 crisis suits and a few commander parts so the broadsides and the commander are converterted out of these. The commander is already ready, but I have problems creating railguns for the broadsides... I only painted the main parts of the colour scheme on two drones and the very beginning on a suit. I'll be going for desert bases and camo in that way. I thought abaout doing little cactusses for the bases, but i'm not really skilled in modelling...

So up to the main event: pics

suits + Devilfish

Commander

Fireknife suits

I don't know, how to go on on the plasma shot thingy... Only have this so far and don't know, what would look the best to go on... any ideas?

Attack drones (puls carbines yet to come)

And the very wip broadsides

They will get the heads of the commander box (the one, that isn't used on the commander). And I plan on doing a shield or something on the empty arm. My scratchbuilt railguns are just crap, so I'll redo them and post a pic, if anyoine has some useful links tutorials or whatever, please feel free to share

Now the Devilfish. This will be for normal firewarriors and so nothing special. I don't know how to do a disruption pod ( I kinda like wysiwyg ). Also I'm not sure about the engines, angled or normal, I didn't glue them so I did a few shots. Which one's better? i kinda like the angled one but am not sure about it...

mold lines are away, holefilling yet to come...

Any critiques & comments are appriciated and wished, please feel free to tell me everything you wanna say about it
btw, love the dakka gallery!

hmm... not sure about that, wanted to make the Pathfinders DFish's engines forward, but will think about once again

easier said than done, dude! I'll post a pic of my trial sometime soon and you'll see what I meant...

why glues them on at all?

that leaves it up to choice and they fit better into a case

Actully if you are making one for pathfinders do theirs forward and the fire warriors angled like theyve just dropped out of the sky and are ready to fly of again has an element of fluff that way

That was my idea, the DFish letting them get out or something in that way, just like a helicopter or something...

@ deadly chicken: thanks!I thought about it, but If I don't glue them, the colour around the turningthingys will fall off fast and with too much varnish it won't hold that good. I like it more, if theyre glued. ALthoug one of the pins holding one engine is broken and so it falls off often if I don't glue it...

Been busy the last night, I wanna show what I've done!
A few years ago, I thought it would be cool, to ruin a Devilfish by converting him... And it just looked crappy! And it still does. But I don't want to waste 30 bucks for buying a new one, so I tried my best to make a Pathfinders exclusive DFish out of it, thats what I have now. I feel its too big in the rear, but don't know what to do about it, any ideas??

I'm not sure about the engine holding thing, should I let them or not? Looks kinda creepy...

That's it without the engines on top of it, looks even creepier...?

And in comparison to a normal DFish

The color is nearly away and i started filling the holes in the front, but what can I possibly do for letting it look better?

Anyways, onto the broadsides. I made another trial for a railgun, but it stills looks gak... and too small!

The GS is even IRL and the white thing between too...

And with its head attached

For me this guys don't feel "heavy" enough... what to do, ideas?

Afterall I felt the colorscheme as being too boring and by browsing through dakka I found Grey Deth' amazing Sons of Medusa and their Desert Support Marines Camo. Made a little photoshop, to see how it would look on a drone, not quite sure about it, thoughts?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
whoops how could I forget my new and converted Shas'ui's?

The right arm is just as a skelett, I will GS the arm.

After all I thought they are definetly unique... I like the standing guy a lot but am not sure about the one standing on top of the drone. Looks kinda weird to me...

For all of these I thought about a sawshark, because the problem was, that I had the one who's on the ground already assembled and found it annoying to see him not having a pulsrifle.

Any thoughts about anything?

Actually, I think that Devilfish looks really cool. It could definitely use some greenstuff work and perhaps some plasticard, but the concept is excellent. I'd also remove the turret and plasticard over the hole. It would make it look sleeker.

When I look at those gun drones my eyes automatically see this:

Happy Drones!

I think I might want to crop that a little more and use it as an avatar, with your permission?

i think for that custom Devilfish if you could some how extend the engines so the front stays where you have it but the exhaust sticks out over the rear hatch it would look more streamlined vs chunky... and is there any way you can have the drones mounted on the winglet sit level to the ground?so the wing has its angle but the drones tops are level to the tabletop...maybe 2 pins and a matching groove to let it hang off the winglet tips? just food for thought.

I like the devilfish. It looks smaller, faster, and more nimble. If you find some way to represent the marker beacon it would be an excellent pathfinder 'fish.

The camo looks good, but you have to be careful. It is real easy to get a little too carried away with camouflage and it can look cluttered. Good luck with them!

thanks guys, didn't think, taht some guys would like it^^ cause I think, I could have done better... but anyways. I will try somethings with the engines, but want to leave the drones were they are, to let them look like fins and maybe add another fin on the top, not sure about that. The main problem is the front, which is too small in comparison to the rear, so I thought of making it look a bit like a cuttle. I will also remove that lookout thing in front of the engines and add something to simulate eyes of the cuttle in the front, to take away attention from the rear. As this will be a pathfinders DFish I need a way to represent the marker beacon, but I don't have many Ideas, maybe something instead of one eye of the cuttle or something in that way. And the holes used to have rockets in it. As a Devilfish doesn't have any, I removed them, thats why there are holes, will cover them and try to make a smooth curve, so that it looks Tau-ish but still keeps the Fishy fluff of their vehicles.

@Commander Endova: Of course you can, I don't mind at all. If you want to, I can make a picture from above with next update.

Hey guys, made a little bit of progress. Started painting the Shas'ui and had a few games, they performed quite well, although I forgot important things during the game.

But anyways, I have a few problems to solve, before continuing to paint this guy! I'm not sure about the skin color, blue? Is it as it is with humans, mostly the same colors or is it as it is with nids, every Sept can have different skin colors, if its only blue, I thought about a darker than usual blue.
Then the Feet, any idea of a color?
And the main question: lenses, which color to go? I thought about a blue-green-darkish color maybe, any ideas?

First pic with flash, others without

Sorry, the pics are really bad, but getting some comments and ideas would be really nice!

I bought a Piranha and thought to show you my pinning.

I just wanted to test something out with my FW's and am I right, that every Model can shoot with a marker light, if ther's a marker drone in the unit?

Well, on the actual GW models, a couple things are different on broadsides versus crisis suits. First of all, they have big, heavy, solid feet. And they also have things covering up the jet pack vents on the back. And don't sweat it either, they look SO much heavier and bulkier once the railguns are attached. Not to mention if you put on the special smart missile system arm...

If Warhammer has taught me anything, it is that anything and everything can be solved by violence.

I love the Devilfish personally. Camo on itcould use some work IMO-it looks rough.

Well. I've studied the broadside models quite a lot and I know whats important, but I don't want to convert the foot. Too much work. The Back will be closed in the future. I have some possibkle railgun candidate, will do a pic of it. I thought abaout doing some extra armor for the neck and top-back or doing another one or two legs for the advanced stabilisation systems, we'll see.

So for the Devilfish there isn't much more place for the engines to go, I worked a bit on it and may finish it on the weekend though.

If you mean the purple color thing, thats only the rests of the color, before getting stripped off. It will get another painting!

I stuck with the classic skin color but if you want to try something different thats all the better. For the lenses whichever you choose make sure it is something that contrasts against the rest of your army scheme (IMO). For your fleet/armor color i would go with something that resembles the basing you plan to go with, your secondary color should be something that accents/contrasts (depending how you want it to look) that armor color.
