well ive been listening to a japanese mand called Nightmare for a few years and,
I was wondering if anyone has any intrest in Japanese music either?
so there ya go.
TheCyben: Seriously though, I'm not advocating GW to model any Boosh characters. If they have to pick one, it would have to be Tony Harrisson... but that would be an outrage.
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

Hoo boy, just look at my iPod. I've got dozens of anime theme songs on there from all the anime I watch (From the totally awesome - Zetsubou Billy - to the completely random - Kiiroi Vacances).
As for actual bands, I love the music of Gackt and Utada Hikaru. Even the English versions of Utada's songs are pretty darn good.

Aikawa Nanase. Worth listening to from time to time, pretty hot too:
n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

For my final year of High School, I had a choice for my final course selection. Do History from 8:30am to 9am or do Japanese during the same time. I took Japanese as it seemed like learning a new language would be more useful than doing the same boring course that I had been forced to do for the last five years before it. Eventually I started listening to Japanese music as a way to help my studying and also English music seemed to be dieing at the time as well. Soulja Boy, and the other crappy ones that came out around the same time actually made me not listen to any music in English at all for around a year or two >_>

Sometimes when I'm bored I'll find new songs based on how funny the name of the song/band is. Some work (Shut up and Explode, Only my Raigun, School Food Punishment) some others don't (Bump of Chicken)
Pretty comprehensive list, n0t_u. I have liked stuff from a few of those bands/artists.
Lately, I have been pretty into the stuff by RuRuRu and Wagdug Futuristic Unity.
A lot of people closely associate J-music with Anime and will stay clear of it if Anime isn't their thing. It is kind of a shame. There is a lot of like if you're willing to be exposed to it.

Now I feel shamed for not mentioning them. They are truly musical gods among men. Opera ~ Maria and Draco (From the Distant Worlds tour) is epic, as is the Japanese version by the Mages (Darkness and Starlight).

I have a serious liking for The Mad Capsule Markets, They split up about a year ago but they are worth a listen, mixing punk rock with drum n bass. Needless to say they have a very unique sound (well, noise is more the word) and it's even more awesome when they try to sing in english. They admitted in an interview they cannot speak a word, and so some of the all-english songs are just random words plucked from a dictionary! (one such gem contains only the words:
'Explode the nerves wake possibility restart everyone) but at the same time is an excellent song
And that is why you hear people yelling FOR THE EMPEROR rather than FOR LOGICAL AND QUANTIFIABLE BASED DECISIONS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE MAJORITY!

I've listened to UVERworld a bit, Sambomaster too, but only because it was the theme from Naruto, not much else to be honest, if anyone can give me some names/albums of some decent metal bands (Something like Lordi or Slipknot which I've been listening to a lot recently) then I'd be grateful ^_^
Mainly because when I go I'd like to have something Japanese related to talk about apart from Anime....

Gackt is pretty decent for rock/metal. You might also look into the Black Mages and the music of Nobuo Uematsu...and L'arc en Ciel is pretty good for lighter rock. Don't know any Japanese metal bands, but maybe that's helpful.

Also, the extended soundtrack boxed set for Cowboy Bebop is worth a listen. The Seatbelts are one funky band...
Run a whole lot of wfrp and other rpg's, play The Woods and Kill Team, gather and look mournfully at imperial guard knowing I'll never finish enough to use them on the tabletop
not on topic but the climax of this song to me sounds like Cthulhu dancing to a polka:

It's a latin word meaning 'underground', coming from underground or underworld (alsopartly the name of The Luna Wolves homeworld trivia fans)
They have a nice imagery going in their songs. Part social awareness (they are very pro-taiwan and anti-china), coupled with local taiwanese myths and legends and good old fashioned fire and brimstone, Hell imagery. Seriously, go out and get their last album "Mirror of Retribution", a wonderful concept album that I have listened to almost every day for the past few months ^^
I got into Malice Mizer back in the day; I remember it blew my mind that they were all men. lol.
I like Teriyaki Boyz, funny hip-hop that doesn't take itself seriously.
My wife's a Southern-All-Stars fanatic so she usually keeps a CD of theirs around.
Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

L`Arc~en~Ciel occasionally plays as their alter ego Punk~en~Ciel. Basically they just do covers of their own songs after a few members swicth places. At least they try to be more Metal. They've progressively became more and more lighter though.
The song I was looking for was Trick ~New wave of Japanese Metal Mix~, but that one is close enough.
Maximum the Hormone is Metal I guess, and High and Mighty Color sounds like they're going that way since they got their new vocalist, from what I've heard of their new songs.

Oh, but I know Utada. Of course everyone knows about reversing her songs?
Unless you're referring to something else, I do recall that the English version of "Passion" ("Sanctuary") had a few lines that were reversed. Did she do it for other songs, or are you talking about something completely different?

That's the most obvious, and some of the other ones sound as if they have backward lines too, although it's more perception there than anything else. It's not just the English version though. Passion has it too.
