From the new Tyranid codex:

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I always suspected the mysterious arrival of the Ethereal Caste, and their immediate control over the entire populace...

...was all just a farming effort for domesticated life force bearing "sheep" of some hidden C'tan in that area.

The point of fact that Tau have minimal Warp presence (the enemy power that nearly overthrew the C'tan) is only further proof that Tau are domesticated sheep.... or maybe walking talking lunch sacks.. as it were.

Is this Codex writen by the guy that brought us the Space Marine Codex? You know the one that gives us the White Scars and Raven Guard, rivals, joining forces with little question. With Khan and Shrike holding hands, skipping through fields of flowers and decapitating Chaos Marines?

I think that was more 'we hate the enemy more than we hate each other' sort of situation.

They are described as fixing relationships between the Chapters, 10,000 years of rage erased by skipping and holding hands.

The 5ed Marines Codex was written by Matt Ward. I think the Nid Codex was written by Robin Cruddace, who did the 5ed Guard Codex.
And if I'm not mistaken, the rivalry (not a blind mutual hatred) between the two chapters was established in the 5ed Codex.

That's a pretty good rule of thumb. Remember kids: don't talk to strangers, especially an army of robotic skeleton strangers.

Even the writers like pissing on the Tau, it seems.

I though fluff-wise the Nids and Necrons were never noted fighting each other. Anyother Necron players that read they're codex out there remember reading the same thing?

Oh no, the people on the internet are yelling at me again.

Tyranid Hive Fleets go out of their way to avoid Necron Tomb Worlds. My guess is the moon wasn't a full on Tomb World and just some form of forward base or staging area, and that wiping out the Hive Fleet was just the Necron's way of saying "dibs".

If I was an betting man I would wager that the nids would avoid the solid metal, does not taste good in the mouth, Necrons for the fact that eating biomass is kind of their thing. Now that I think of it, its kind of both their things, one harvests it for the fleet the other the star gods.

As for the Tau and their Koobiya ways I hate to say it but serves them right. As other people have posted, Dead moon, things coming out of said moon, kicking scary space bugs, then landing on their planet. There are some warning signs there. I am sure the higher Tau leadership cast did a collective face palm when word got to them about this.

I once read some fluff (on the old website, I think) about a Tau army and one of their first encounters with Chaos forces.

The Tau figured out that the enemy forces were worshiping some being called "Slaanesh." So, the Tau start trying to pinpoint the location of "Slaanesh" so they could kill him and defeat the leaderless army...

I guess GW said "OK, we've got this race. They're the closest thing to good guys this setting has got, so we gotta make them undesirable somehow... I've got it! Let's make them really stupid!"
