Hello guys,

As the topic said, is anyone have some ideas or tutitual about building terrain scructure by using soda cans?

I've seen them turned sideways and used as a liquid storage tank before. I'm sure other folks have used them for towers and whatnot as well. Don't have a tutorial on hand for them at the moment though.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Unless you really convert them they really look to much like what they really are IMHO.

Armorcast does some neat add ons to make instant terrain out of soda cans.

I keep thinking I'd like to use a string of Coke cans put together to model a futuristic model train.

Liquid storage tanks seem to be the common theme with coke cans.

Pretty appropriate, if you ask me.

I've seen tutorials on using card stock (cereal box material) around the tops and bottoms that make reasonable water tanks. You could also add a spare rhino door to the top as an entrance way.

There's a blurb in the Apocalypse book on how to convert Soup Cans to "industrial terrain." Check it out.

the main problem with soda cans as terrain is that our eye is VERY familiar with them. As such, unless you really disguise the shape, your eye will pick it out and say "soda can".

Probably the best thing to do with them is to use them as the core of another terrain piece, as with the soup can terrain from Black Gobbo. They used card stock "wraps" to make the cans look more in scale, and more industrial.

thanks for the ideas.

i think i would use soda can to make as pillars of a sketch-build landing pad with Orks and/or Imperial styles.

I dont use soda cans because they are made of very thin medal and are very easy to dent. So if you spend hours working on some soda can terrain and then your hand slips, your liquid storage tank has a nice, big dent in it's side

Friends are like potatoes, if you eat them they die.

When life gives you lemons, make orange juice, and let everyone wonder how you did it.

True, but in the world of 40k that is just collateral damage really.

The thin nature of the stuff and the fact it is free makes it useful.

It is easy to score then flex to break and cut to shape.
Could reasonably construct complex details a bit like making card models
Haven't thought of it but there must be applications other than a cylindrical tank

When I was building a brokendown trukk terrain piece I cut pieces of soda can out and glued them together to make it seem more orky. Pieces of soda can are very orky.

Quoted from "The Defenestrator":
"Yes, I don't buy into the goody goody image the Tau PR machine has churned out . They're all dirty cold-blooded space-communists if you ask me! Besides, their shiny, selfless "we love everyone for the Greater Good" vibe is so unfitting for the "lulz we're all badass jerks" future of 40k. GW needs to play up their cold, calculating, "join us or die, and probably still die anyway" Borg-y style. That's just me of course."

For terrain i woudl have though a food tn (liek baked beans) woudl be better as they are abotu the same size and a lot tougher, btu you woudl still be able to chop them up with clippers or plyers.

Praxis is it National Dislexia Day today?

If you want coke cans to be sturdier just back them with something - it will be a lot easier to work with than bean cans.

I find apple juice or soup cans work well as chemical tanks. The walls are thicker and the already present ribs around the outside look pretty convincing when properly painted. You can either use them unopened or re-attach the lid by putting green stuff around the edges. Alternatively, if you cut out polystyrene half-spheres and glue them to either end of the tank, it gives it that "high-pressure" look.
