Hi folks

I've been collecting and painting orks for a while now and have decided to attempt to learn how to actually game with them, the trouble (if I'm being honest) is that I find the codex very confusing when it comes to what I have and how I can use them and what point value they then cost.

Im hoping if I list what I currently have that one or two of you kind people would seek pity on this new gamer (altho sadly ageing modeller) and help me organise my list.

So here goes............

HQ

Warboss with powerklaw + twinshoota & ammo runt =93pts ?

Weirdboy =55pts ?

Elites

Nobz x 7 ( 2x powerklaws , 1 bosspole , 2x shoota/rokkit) =205pts ?

Burna Boyz x 5 ( 1x Mek ) =75pts ?

Lootas x 5 (1x Mek) =75pts ?

Kommandos x 5 ( inc Nob with powerklaw) =85pts ?

Snikrott =85pts

Troops

Nobs x 7 (1x powerklaw, 1x shoota/scorcha, 1x bosspole) 175pts ?

Boyz x 20 ( 1x Nob with powerklaw, 1x bigshoota, 1x rokkit launcher ) =170pts ?

Boyz x 20 ( 1x Nob with powerklaw, 2x bigshoota) =165pts ?

Gretchin x 20 ( 2x Runtherds 1x grot-prod ) =65pts ?

Dedicated Trukk (Wreckin ball, boarding plank ) =50pts ?

Fast Attack

Stormboyz x 10 ( inc 2x powerklaws) = ?

Zagstruk = 85pts

Deffkoptas x 3 (all twinlinked rokkit ) =135pts ?

Deffkoptas x 3 (all twinlinked rokkit ) =135pts ?

Heavy Support

Battlewagon (not completed building yet.........) = ?

I also plan on adding a looted wagon in time but alot of the above still needs painting first.

So what do you think am I doomed to always having my backside handed to me after a battle or can I be saved ?

Cheers C.W

Yeah man I dont see this current list working out to well. Orks are an amazing army, but you have to decide on how you want to play them. You have a few options:

a) Mech - This includes all of your boyz and Nobz in Battlewagons and Trukks.

b) Foot Sloggin - This includes FULL sized units of Boyz (30) that walk accross the board. Usually these lists include between 120 - 150 Boyz.

c) Kan Wall - This is a list that includes 90 Boyz (3 full squads) and 9 Kans. The Kans screen the boyz as they get accross the field.

These are just a few examples and are extremely watered down. If you decide how you want to run your orks, then we can better help you.

Hope this helped man.

I recommend going to google and typing in getting started with orks or something of the sort (serious advice)
or even how to make an army list. These articles give you tons of information to work off of

These are the models you've got, yes? Then I'll base my advice on using as many as possible in a functioning list.

First, the Looted Wagon you're painting: I've heard people say that you should never take looted wagons, and these people are... right! When I got back into the game this autumn I tried almost all the units in the codex, and LWs always underperform. Field it as a Battlewagon instead.

As for the rest: You don't have many boyz. But you have a warboss, burna boyz, nobz, kommandos, snikrot, deffkoptas, a trukk and soon two BWs if you count the looted wagon... All of these can be fielded in a mech list.

Add 8 boyz and three trukks and you've got 4 trukk mobs.

Put the warboss and nobz in one battle wagon, add a mek with kustom force field + more burna boyz in the other. Put these two BWs in front to use that nice armour value 14 to shield the trukks, outflank with kommandos + snikrot to force the enemy to deploy closer towards you and mix in as much deffkoptin' madness as the points allow!

The above list is a lot like more experienced dakka users have recommended to me, I've fielded it and it works!

Paintin' the green tide... one Ork at a time.

Problem is you're going off the models you've got. This leads to smaller units which won't last long and the odd transport which can be easily picked out.

Basically boss needs a cybork body for invulnerable save, weirdboys kind of suck, too unpredictable and hard to control.

If you give your nobz all different weapons then they all need to be wounded once before you remove one. As they're a close combat unit give them a transport, a battlewagon is best because is stronger than a trukk. Also a painboy gives them feel no pain and allows you to take cybork bodies which give you invulnerable saves

You need more burnas, 5 won't last long and drop the mek. Pop them in a battlewagon so they can make it to the front line, they're close ranged so you want them in the fight not foot slogging, right?

Lootas fire power is made up on there numbers. You basically need more of these guys. Either hide them in a battlewagon which acts as a bunker with a big mek with a kustom force field giving you more protection.

Boyz need a transport.

Stormboyz aren't that good and will get hammered. I would personaly drop them, but if you want to keep them then double the unit size and get another unit. This will give you unit redundancy and dual threat and target

You from Wales as well?

You need any ork advice or tips etc feel free to drop me a PM or e-mail me. Happy to talk tactics and tell you what units work etc.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I have taken it all onboard and will probably go down the route of a vehicle heavy clan with a strong Blood Axe influence.

I will always prefer to buy orks I like the look of over duplicate boxes of standard troops I already own, but I do realise its unavoidable if I am to turn what esentually was to be a display army into a game winning force .

I will personally avoid using more than one of each GW vehicle though........ not because I have anything against GW, it's because I want to add more variety and can combine military modelling into my gaming aswell as utilising the ork humour.

I plan on adding some Landies and Humvees (Orkiefied ofcourse) and eventually I also intend to have an Airborne Sqwadron of Orks in a Chinook type transport.

@ Mercer ....... No bud , I live in Yorkshire.
