Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks!

I'm taking my shiny new Dark Eldar into a tournament this weekend, and probably the best player there is a Space Wolves player. I wanted to know about Long Fangs, what they are; what the anti-tank consists of in a Space Wolves army...in every tournament I go to that he's at, we face each other in round 3. =p

I've been triumphant thus far with my mechanized orks (although every game has been extremely close) but I'm playing an unfamiliar army now against a really good player with an army I'm not familiar with. =p

Long Fangs are the oldest Space Wolves who are not wolfguard, specialists or dead, they are the only ones in the chapter who are allowed to wield heavy weapons.
I.E they are Space Puppy Devestators, who can shoot at multiple targets.

SM and SW anti-tank are generally the same with the exception of no SW MM ABs. Long fangs are cheaper SM devastators that can split fire between two targets, but have no extra wounds to spare.

As Stated, Long fangs are some of the older members of the Space Wolf Chapter, they opt'd out of becoming Wolf Gaurd, to instead sit in the back and watch the pups run about and make sure that nothing to big for them to handle gets close. The pack leader can not wield a heavy weapon, he can get a flamer, bolter, Meltagun, or plasma gun (i think on the meltagun anyhow) and He has worked with his pack so long, he can in lieu of shooting, decide to split their shots any way he wants at any two different targets. On top of that, they can pack a razorback/rhino/drop pod if wanted, and can be hooked up with a Wolfgaurd Pack leader (most the time you see this in the effect of a WG with a cyclone missle launcher system) They can have Multi-melta's, Plasma Cannons, Las-cannons, Heavybolters, and Missle Launchers, or any of the combo of each. Can be made to either kill Infintry, Armour, or both. And as stated can shoot at two different things as long as the pack leader is alive and dosn't shoot himself. Anyhow. They generally are Pretty nasty people to fight, until ya get close, and they are cheap to field imo

Plasma guns and missile launchers are both 48"?

I'm a 36" range army, and am trying to figure out what threats are in a Space Wolf army.

MLs are 48", Plasma Cannons are 36", and Plasma Guns are 24".

So missile launchers are a longer range threat than my dark lances....anything else in there?

Where do missile launchers go in a Space Wolves army? How many per squad? What about long fangs? A full squad of missile launchers? How many dudes?

Sorry - I don't have the codex, nor have I read it yet.

Or even better. Attach Logan to a LF squad of 5 multi-meltas. Declare that Logan's High King rule is Relentless for Turn 1. Drop pod them in right on top of enemy armor. Split fire amongst two tanks, or just target one. Fire 5 multi-meltas. Let the rest of the pups mop up whatever pours out.

Basically Dash if he's a smart SW player that is using the new codex to it's fullest he'll probably have 2-3 squads of Missile launcher LF's. They are ridiculously cheap (140 for 6 guys w/5 missile launchers) and they can split their fire. Spacewolves actually put out an absurd amount of shooting for what is suppose to be a close combat oriented army. I'd look out for the LF's since they are going to outrange you bad.

Put night shields on your raiders and ravangers. Less so on your raiders if you're charging them towards his lines and they'll be firmly in range anyway (I'd say not getting the penalty for being in close range with a melta would be worth it if not for the unfortunate habit of getting downed by bolters anyway) but definety on your ravangers. It'll pull you to equal range with his ML and longer range than his other weapons.

Yeah... the 48" stuff you should worry about is:

MLs from Long Fangs (I think 5 per 6-man squad), Typhoons (it's TML fires two frag/krak shots as one weapon, and it's fast), Dreads, and CMLs on Termies (another two shots in one weapon)

Lascannons on LRs, Long Fangs, Predators, Razorbacks, and Dreads

Autocannons on Predators, Dreads, and Rune Priests

Also, don't forget HBs on just about anything.
