I`m thinking about getting another army. I have just sold unholy amounts of LotR, WH and paints to a friend, so what i have got left is a couple og BL books (fantastic novels ), and my Orks & Crimson Fists. Currently im thinking about doing eldar, as they`re differet to the armies i play. My goal is as many scorpions, Wraithlords and DA as possible. Whats the pros & cons about the eldar, and what should i get. I think the battleforce is rubbish (but i may be wrong), and i don`t fancy jetbikes.
Cheers!

The battleforce is pretty good despite it only has 17 minis. I made a topic like this and someone gave me a link to this website,I've forgotten it now but it has all different structures to make an Eldar force.Go to my page and you can find it there

I myself think the Battle force box is rubbish...... you get Guardians (which suck) and a 5 man squad of DA, the WaveSerpent is good. War-walkers are good as well, but only in groups of 3.
The biggest problem you will have with Eldar is that your units will easy to counter or kill if you dont support them with another unit to protect them. At low points you have to think defensively and react to things rather than be the aggressor........
But you are on the right path..... DA are the best troop choice you can get for nothing more than their ability to multi-task. They tie up units in combat, they shoot fantastic, they have a decent armor. They are one of the only multi-purpose units you will ever see.
The Pros
1. Eldar are the fastest army in the game. High Initiatives, most things have Fleet, and fast vehicles......very easy to control the board through movements.
2. What ever they can do you can do better. Eldar have units that almost feel like cheating if used properly.
3. Beautiful models.....with a good paint job Eldar stand out among other races. ("oh look, Blue marines....and the guy over there plays Red Marines.....")
4. Versatility...... Eldar can play any way you want; Hoard, gunline, assault, you can build a list to match anything you will ever play.
The Cons
1. Stuff is expensive in both $ and points. Expect to be outnumbered even by Space Marines.
2. If your list isnt built right it can fall like a house of cards, every unit must be used correctly or it will die.
3. Codex creep is making it hard for us to be the best at stuff anymore, we no longer have the best skimmers, psykers, assault troops, or HQs. Until we get a new codex expect to struggle with newer codex'es.
4. Eldar are not a common army anymore, so you will need to proxy tons of stuff to see what works for you as you wont have many players to ask questions of or games to watch.
Things you should get: Banshees, Scorpians, lots of DA, FARSEER!!!!!, Warwalkers x3, Wraithlords, and Waveserpents.......build around these and you should be fine.
Just my 2cents

Well, you have Orks and Crimson Fists, so you know how to play the game. I'd suggest building a list, then buying what you feel like you might use. Anyone can suggest something, but that would be our invidividual armies and individual playstyles.
For instance, in regard to the above poster, I don't use Banshees, Scorpions or Warwalkers, so I don't agree that you should go ahead and buy those. But what I might suggest, someone else may come along and say, "Well, my army doesn't consist of any of that!" And you'll be back to square one.

I do agree that each unit is to individual tastes..... I myself play a large number of Rangers with my army, but that may just be do to the number of MEQ players in my area.
When I suggested the Banshees, Scorpions and such it was due to the frequency that I see them on tables. With the large number of Meq lists I would argue that Banshees are a shoe in, and WarWalkers are easy to fit into any list with their firepower.
But then again that is one of the true strengths of Eldar, no two lists are the same. You and I play completely differant and yet we both have much success with our games.

Well, i usually play against Nurgle marines (totally swamped them with orks saturday, my killa kan killed the defiler. The defiler was the charger ), so i will need high str and AP. Honestly, i don`t know a tad about eldar. Thats the fun, i knew everything about Orks and Fists when i started, so Eldar will be a whole new experience I`m at a very tight budget, so i will have to buy point effective, maybe 2pts/$. Any advice? I`m gonna use max 200$. Cheers! PS: I really like scorpions, banshees and DA, so they will be in my list, regardless of competivness(is that a word BTW)

Use wave serpents to get your banshees and scorpions into cc and use plenty of DA to help and get a Fire Prism or two. Also definatly get a Farseer.I hope that helps you,but I haven't played Nurgle marines so I'm not sure if it works against them or not.

I recently tried an army based around Fire Prisms and Warp Spiders. It worked quite well.
However, my preference is an Eldar synergy list, with no two of the same unit (except guardians). It also, is quite strong. Despite what Iron_Chaos_Brute says.

I don`t like it, but it`s the best way to get a good start on the Eldar. Battleforce, 2x4 Eldar guardians and a Farseer. So then it`s 16 guardians, 1 cannon, 1 War Walker, 1 Wave Serpent and 5 DA. How many ptsis that (with upgrades). Unfortunately, this army won`t start before summer (i`m bringing my fists up to 2k with kantor and some sternguards).
Cheers!

I'd hesitate to play Eldar as it has some glaring weaknesses in the 5th ed. like
Weak troops, random game length, skimmer nerfing.

Eldar is my première army. I’ve built 4 different Eldar armies over the course of my time in the hobby.
Tactically, you need to be able to view units as filling a job and ONLY its intended job.
For example, a 30-strong squad of boyz lead by a power klaw nob has a lot of versatility. You can use it to tarpit. You can use it to camp objectives. You can use it to spearhead.
There’s not much in the Eldar codex that’s like that. If you want to camp objectives, you had better have something in your army designed to camp objectives. If you want to spearhead, you had better include a spearhead unit.
You need to come to the gaming table with a plan; “this is how my army works.” If you try and “go with the flow”, things will get ugly for you fast. Never hesitate to take a step back from the game table and just think for a couple minutes.
Many first-time Eldar players grow frustrated with losing a great many games because the learning curve is very steep. There’s not much room for mistakes. However, once you’ve learned how to play your army, you’re unstoppable to all but the most experienced players.
We are suffering from a tab bit of codex creep at the moment but that’ll get fixed in time.

Yeah, i have played eldar one time, i won kill points 9-1. I killed a squad of 3 jetbikes in the open, his guardian squad (8), his farseer without a unit in the open, his banshees he charged into my terminators, his wraithlord i charged with my command squad etc. He killed a rhino and 3 marines. Oh, and a terminator. He had bad rolls, but setting his farseer in front of my predator in the open in kill points was kinda... yeah. So i see that Eldar is an army really different from fists and orks, and that`s the whole point

Sounds like the guy you played against wasnt a very good player.......all you could learn from that game is that Eldar die quickly when not used correctly. Automatically Appended Next Post: wuestenfux wrote:I'd hesitate to play Eldar as it has some glaring weaknesses in the 5th ed. like

We have always had weak troops.....and you think skimmers are nerfed now.... I remember when a "stunned" skimmer would drift in a random direction (usaly off the table).

I'm pretty sure I liked the 3rd ed skimmers much better than they are now. Falcons were damn near unkillable, and I never had problems with skimmers drifting off the table (Scatter + D6) Not to mention the extra move in the assault phase, popping around a corner, and then moving back behind cover was a nasty tactic to say the least!

Jetbikes. You can make a whole army just out of jetbikes/vipers and shining spears are good against any vehicles, look good doing it, and then zip away without having to deal with anything that comes out of the vehicle that they just blew sky high.

Yeah, i don`t like the look of jetbikes too much, but i know what they can do, and i love it. I see them being very tactical, and really good at grabbing objectives.
That game was against my regular play-mate, and he didn`t have the "feel" of the army yet. I`m going up against his new eldar list today (10 times as deadly), or tyranids.
Cheers!

But in 5th ed it is hard to hide your jetbikes, since area terrain does not block LOS.
This was definitely easier in 4th ed.
