Hey all,

Dead Space got packaged new at $20 as one of those 'classics' and I picked it up. I love survival horror and so far I have not been disappointed. Could be good for a few playthroughs ala Resident Evil 2, using different weapons and trying different difficulties, and challenges/achievements.

Definately recommend picking it up. Controls are great, it's spooky, and plays some nice homage to Alien, Aliens, John Carpenters 'Thing' remake, etc.

Thanks for the headsup on the price drop, A friend of mine got it right after it was released, I thought it was cool but I rarely spend money on games. with the price drop I might go get it.

I still haven't downloaded any of the special suits. I'm waiting until I finish it on the hardest difficulty so I have something to look foward too.

The level 6 Military suit is awesome though. fething tank.

I don't know, I kinda felt the over-the-shoulder controls to be clunky at times - though the game itself is really quite creepy and definitely something I play during the day... with the sun shining.
Writing internet fiction is kind of like throwing out messages in bottles into a churning sea composed entirely of messages in bottles, the chances of of your message getting noticed and someone being sent out to rescue you is punishingly slim. But every once in a blue moon, someone who owns a big boat made of money finds your message and agrees to let you ride on his big boat made of money as long as you keep making messages for him.

Because Matt Ward didn't write our Codex. Otherwise we would have had Scything Tyrants with Scything Nidfists that can re-roll re-rolls and that can have a bodyguard of 10 Scything Guards and a Scything Prime that could ride in a Scything Pod. Or something to that effect.

its 1000% more scary plating on the hardest difficulty setting, but much more rewarding i think, im on level 10 on the hardest dificulty setting (pro?) using only the plasma cutter hehe its epic

Dead Space is by far one of the best, most intense games I've played in the last 3-4 years. Dunno how many times I ran around fearing something was gonna leap through a grate at me lol. I only wish Silent Hill would get better, SH5 sucked... they haven't been tense or even slightly frightening since SH3 :(

I also picked it up for £10 new a while back.
Good game with a real atmosphere. Not a classic but a good, solid survival horror game well worth the money.
I was half way through trying to complete the game with just the plasma cutter when my PS3 decided to delete the save data for it. V. Annoying!
But stategically dismembering limbs off of freaky enemies is always fun!

I am also doing the plasma cutter-only challenge. I kinda wish I had known, though, that in order to get 100% of the achievements, you have to do some REALLLLY tedious/frustrating things. I gave up on some of them already.

It is super fun, all complaints aside.

Great game. I've just beaten the Leviathan and looking forward to the rest. I hope that in the next game, they add the real Plasma Cutter. The one they use in Downfall.

I hired it when it came out Really enjoyed it.. But I got stuck because I kept getting lost with those IIRC unkillable monsters.. so moving quickly Id get lost over and over then I gave up.

They're different weapons. Those are plasma saws you see in Downfall.

The shooter sequence itself... took me ages to beat. It was hard to see all the little asteroids (this was before I got my glasses).

Aren't the audio/video logs a great touch? The one you find in chapter 7 by the man who dismembers himself really creeped me out.

And the Stasis Slashers... oh my God, they're scary. You're in chapter 8, right? Well...

In the next chapter you go on board the USM Valor and the Marines on board have been mutated into a special kind of Slasher, who move incredibly fast (almost teleporting) due to the stasis modules in their armour merging with their flesh. They're probably the most dangerous non-boss enemies in the game, IMO.

Yeah, that was an awesome easter egg. I hope the sequel has a proper flamethrower though, because the one in the first game is fairly disappointing.

I had such an awesome moment in the game at one point. I was walking through a vacume and got attacked by the little bugs. I just smiled and pulled out my flame thrower to roast them and ... it didn't work. That was pretty cool and I really didn't see it coming. Shows though that the developers were really thinking about those sections.

It's great attention to detail. The vacuum sections were really tense because you can barely hear anything apart from your own footsteps and heartbeat.

I just hope they manage to top that in the sequel.

Did you see the movie? If there's one thing that annoyed me about the game, then the fact that the movie screwed up a few parts. Stuff like that really annoys me.

Why was the marker smaller? How did it get to where Isaac found it? Why didn't it repell the Necromorphs? Okay, that last part might have been a gameplay decision but it would've been great for the atmosphere and made sense considering the final boss fight.

Finished my first playthrough on Normal with just the Plasma Cutter (for the achievement).

I don't recommend trying to get 100% achievements as the shooting gallery and zero-G basketball can be pretty annoying to complete.

I will probably play again on Impossible and wrap up the relatively easy ones just for fun.

Just the Cutter? Sounds like fun.

The shooting galleery wasn't that bad, but the basketball is terrible.
