hey everyone this is my first post to dakka dakka, my first forum in fact for war gaming. i have been collecting warhammer for around 10 years now and have always had, space marines but ive run into abit of money lately and wanted something nice so im thinking of getting a nice Vostroyan army, something i can dig my teeth into painting wise. would vostoyans be a good choice for something unique?
also will be putting some pics up of my painted minis in the not so distant future

Welcome. I've always thought Vostroyans were the finest looking guard around.

I think the Vostroyan models are great - and would certainly provide a painting challenge!

Yeah, I love the models and fluff but they take ages to paint to a decent standard so... But anyway, an amazing army when done well.

Yeah but they look like small orks if painted badly. The steel legion, however... need I go on?

I really like the visual appearance of the Vostroyan Guard miniatures, the only things that pushed me over to the grips of Cadia was the price tag and the lack of plastic models. A standard 10 man squad is twice the price, at least here in the Uk. Hell, if they were plastic, I wouldn't mind paying twice the price for the awesomeness that comes with them.

I have painted a CCS and a platoon of Vostroyans. I love the look but find the model range very limiting (do GW even do a Vostroyan Autocannon team or Melta gunner?) Plastics are best for army building and converting and are also the cheapest option. If money is not an issue the Death Korps of Kreig are the best looking IG you can buy.

For a meltagun, what seems to be the best option is to buy the single Vostroyan with a flamer, saw off the end of the barrel and replace it with the barrel of a meltagun. Once again this limits your meltagunners to one pose, but from models other people have posted it looks pretty good.

this is my first vostoyan paint job of a leman, stripped from a really bad cadian job, stripped with simple green, re primed, and up to this so far all in 24 hours! was tired for work the next day though

Looks great, but from a purely gaming perspective I now model my battle tanks without sponsons and with a hull heavy bolter, saves a lot of points and I never got to use all the other weapons enough justify taking them. just my opinion as (apart from looks and fluff) it also depends a lot on how competitive your gaming is.

thanks for the compliment on the paint job, as for the weapons, it was already built:( the leman russ the layout of it atm is pretty alround use though so im happy. oh, im playing in a doubles tournament soon 1000 points each, im thinking command squad with 2 body guard, master of ordinance, commander and 2 plasma guns, 4 veteran squads with 2 plasma guns and a melta per veteran squad and a platoon, standard platoon command, 2 infantry squads. trying to make an anti tank/infantry/space marine killer army for it as i know lots of player are going marines any advice would be great

I'm not to fond of the master of ordnance, it tends to scatter to much for my liking, but as your playing 2000 pt's it might be an option. Also i never mix special weapons in a squad, i like to give them a dedicated task by all melta or all plasma etc.

ahh so dont mix the special weapons. i always like to have a melta in the squad though so when tanks come near any of them, the melta can take them out. what is a pretty good 1000 point guard army? mainly infantry or through in some heavy support
