Great stuff.

Very good line of colored primers and stain based 'dips'. I've sold a ton of them through my stores. The creators are former 'Eavy Metal painters. Quite nice people too. The key to there sprays is they actually are a primer, not just a paint. The colors go on smooth, and very consistant. I did one stomper in desert yellow, and another in the blood red. Saved amazing amounts of time that I could put into detail work. I do my ork infantry in the brown, follow with badab black wash. Makes it easier to do skin, metals, and drybrush the brown in various colors on the straps, shirt, pants, etc. Army painter is also doing the military color primers that are sold through Battlefront miniatures.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

I have primed two armies now using the Army Painter spray paints (Pure Red and Navy Blue) and will add that they are good, BUT the results have not been as consistent as the result I have had with GW Chaos Black Primer. Notably, the Pure Red can be finicky and inconsistent, even after a lot of shaking and finding good weather conditions. However, if you are down with fast tabletop level painting, they are a time saver.

Maybe this summer I'll try some out but with the temps being in the teens and lower I can't prime outside and sure as hell am not going to prime in my bedroom.

They might be quick and good but I have an airbrush so I get all the convenience of any color basecoat I want in a spray. I just only need to prime black white or grey depending on how dark or light I want the original basecoat.

I'm all for trying out new products so I'll give them a try this summer but for right now I'll stick to airbrushing my colors onto bare plastic (yes, it is possible with the right paint).

Actually, I just finished my first Kasrkin test model using the "British Armour" color from the War Painter line they did for Battlefront.

He's drying, but I'll have to post pics. He came out way, way better than expected considering he's a single flat color for both uniform and body armor, with only the details and metalwork making it stand out.

Isn't quick shade dip just rebadged floor polish?

I'm tempted to try to the colored primers, I just saw those at one of the FLGSes the other day and was rather surprised. Don't have anything I need primed in a color other than white at the moment.

The dip on the other hand... I'll stick with my MinWax, as I can get a large can for $10, while the Army Painter dip comes in a small can for $30. Much larger variety of color shades with MinWax as well.

Does anyone know how the "Desert Yellow" Army Painter spray compares to Tausept Ochre? The Army Painter website does not have a comparison and 10 minutes of google has failed to produce any color comparisons.

It doesn't really compare to Tausept Ochre as far as I can tell.

The Desert Yellow is more akin to Games Workshop's "Desert Yellow", which is a good base color to work from.

Alternatively, the Battlefront "War Painter" series has a Late War German color that seems to be a perfect match for that ochre.

Theres little point to using sprays without their exact colors replicated in waterbased paints If you want to do blend colors... but for washes and similar uses its great ( spray cans cannot be shipped by airmail right?)

No one knows exactly what it is, and they aren't telling, but it has alot of the same properties as wood stain. Different opinions abound, but some folks have done comparisons and found that the two achieve very similar results, and some folks think that army painter is superior.

It's likely that their product is a rebadged wood stain, possibly with some minor ingredient changes. However, even at army painter prices, it's still a good product both in value and ease of use.

I just use minwax polyshades for a quarter the price.

Would be great to find out which brand of primer they're rebadging, huh?

Army Painter? They make their own.

Other companies, however, are rebadging theirs. Like Mikhaila said, the Battlefront 'Warpaint' series are rebadged Army Painter.

Perhaps rebadging is the wrong term, but I'm pretty sure they are purchasing their product (probably a modified wood stain) from a paint-maker and putting their label on it. The cash outlay to make and fill your own spray paints and polyurethane stains would probbly be quite a bit.

There is nothing wrong with this. Lots of companies spec and distribute a product and have it manufactured elsewhere. No sense in building a paint factory when the means for production already exist. That said, it's a pretty good bet that whatever formula they are working with, it's based on wood stain, possibly with some modifications for consistency and pigmentation. As always. I could be wrong.

Anyone have any concrete if on how/where army painter dips are made?

Don't take this as a dig on Army Painter. I think it's great that gamings-specific products are being made to make painting and finishing easier and faster for those who may not want to spend considerable amounts of time painting. If the color of my guardsmen wasn't already available in krylon primer (ruddy brown) I'd definitely give the army painter spray primers a look.

All of the army painter colors are matched to a gw/vallejo color.

I've been using army painter sprays since they first started popping up and I love em. I've never used their dips or their new dripper bottle paints, but their sprays are really great. Actually I've been thinking about grabbing their mega paint set when it comes out in I think March.
