I'll cut to the chase:

Codex: Tyranids wrote:

'This viewpoint, and the willfully misinterpreted conclusions that fed it, was the chief precipating factor in the commencement of the Iron hammer campaign, which soon escalated into the greatest conflict yet seen between the Imperium of man and the Tau empire. But that is another story..."

Now, a quick scan of Lexicanum shows no records of any Iron hammer campaign. So unless i'm missing something, could this be a hint that the Tau will soon be updated, with fluff concerning this campaign?

Hmm...

I do not believe that GW is that smart to put a hint for an upcoming book in a new release like that. Especially considering that they re-write the fluff whenver they feel like it anyway.

Actually they have put hints in plain sight in new books before (IG book with the wrecked Rhino terrain thing, 5th ed rulebook with the bastion, etc). This one seems too smart to be one though, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next Tau codex didn't even mention that campaign as well

Could be that instead of the next Tau book focusing on the fourth expansion instead they have to fend of the Imperium who is mounting a campaign of their own.

As much as I want this to happen, I think GW was just trying to come up with some new fluff for the new nid book. Tau seem to be featured pretty heavily in it, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it was meant to be a hint about an upcoming book.

Considering this piece of fluff and the bit of fluff in the Nid codex that involves necrons harvesting Tau, you may have something.

while it's nice that they're mentioning the tau, i don't think it portends of anything significant. other codices have mentioned the dark eldar in new stories over the past 10 years but they haven't gotten anything. it's nice to see that they're fleshing out the tau/nids interaction hinted at in other sources (like the probable source of the infestation in the commissar cain books).

Rumor or not, I kind of like this way of making the people curious. At least is shows some sort of care for us customers.

Here's hoping that the Iron Hammer campaign proves a successful one for the Imperium, given their generally poor record in such things.....

Actually, they've done it before. They mentioned in Codex: Orks that there was a great campaign against them, lead by Chief Librarian Tigurius, which hinted at the release of the next boxed set. Necrons were shown in Gorkamorka, and so on. Only the release date eludes us, because we all know every army gets their book updated.

Right?

Really? Well, then it makes more sense. It's just that we've been dissapointed by GW in the last few years so often I'm rather sceptical now about such things.

GW is about as subtle as a hammer when they put out rumors...

That's the latest rumor I heard, but you know the standard line about anything beyond (x) months out is NOT written in pen, but in pencil, etc., etc.

I noticed that, and all the other Tau stuff, in the 'Nid Codex as well. I also picked up on a line about the Tau's rapidly changing technology, and how they even changed their Pulse Rifle rounds to adapt to the 'Nids adapting to their old Pulse Rifle rounds. I hope this means that the Firewarriors will get something cool like the multiple ammuntion choices that the Sternguard have.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

If you look at some of the more recent art, the Tau look a bit different than they used to... this could just be a mistake on the parts of the artists, or it could be a hint towards a new art direction and a revised model line.

I'm rather hoping that those space dwarf things we saw a while back are a range of Demiurg that will introduced to support the Tau much like the Vespid and Kroot.

Well, one can hope.

The only thing I've heard on Tau is from one of the more reputable rumormongers on Warseer. They said something like "Not only will this year be GOOD it will be GREAT for releases." with capitalization intact. And yes, those space dwarf sprues that were around a while ago. Between the mentioned sprues and the subtle hints here and there, I think it's possible Tau could come out in the next 12 months. I think they're a fairly easy codex to fix.
