They said something like "Not only will this year be GOOD it will be GREAT for releases." with capitalization intact. And yes, those space dwarf sprues that were around a while ago. Between the mentioned sprues and the subtle hints here and there, I think it's possible Tau could come out in the next 12 months. I think they're a fairly easy codex to fix.

Wait, what? Space Dwarf sprues? Where? I must've completly missed them.

There was also fair mention of Tau in the Space Wolves book...

I wouldn't put too much faith in it though, supposedly the Tau might be getting redone crisis suits (or as my friend suggests, redone fully plastic broadsides) this march for battle missions. If they were rereleasing Tau this year, I would think they would wait until then for that release.

I have a bet on with the regulars at my local gw that Tau will be after blood angels, they have dark eldar and 'crons. If so, a new crisis suit would be nice, with command bits included. (and plastic broadsides would be good too)

GW frequently puts hooks and references in their books without a plan to follow through on them. They do this so that some time later they can pick up the hook and use it. But that shouldn't be taken to mean that anything involving that hook is in the pipeline.

In 3rd edition didn't the galactic map have a monolith marked on it that has never been mentioned elsewhere?

not to mention they created several Craftworlds just for the sake of just destroying them and making a Nid special character and other battles. I wouldn't take this as hard evidence but you never know

Here's the image for those who don't want to explore that thread:

The fact that it's a one piece mini makes me think it's not for a regular GW kit, but rather something like a starter set or box game. The image came out during the "mystery box" whirlwind, so it could have been put out to throw us off.

Final edit: And to quote one poster in that thread:
I've got a feeling that DH pic is going to be the new DE greens of this place.

as much as i like tau....i really hope that GW actually releases books that NEED releasing. according to my count, in the time since the last dark eldar codex, every race has gotton at least 1 new book. not counting space marines (who get a new book or varient every 3 months), necrons, tau (have had 2), orks, nids (2), gaurd (2) brand new witch/daemon hunters, eldar, chaos, (including a brand new chaos daemons race).....not to mention 3 major game expansions (planet strike, city fight, apocalypse), and 3 core rulebook updates. the dark eldar still have nothing,.... and no i dont count the silly little "2nd edition" that added vehicle upgrades and wargear..... forget the tau....DE need an update more then anyone else. both in the models and the codex.

oh and vespids are sh!t cause they cant take any return fire, jump like other tau, and have junk for armor and range. if tau are being redone, at least give the vespids jump packs like crisis suits.

Tau NEED it, too. Dark Eldar, Necrons etc. just NEED it more.

But you should know by now that GW's release schedule isn't based on NEED.

If tau would be after blood angels then i believe that there is some form of god exists and i will be happy with my new plastic tau manta's....

Sarcasm aside... the idea of the tau army is to:

-Eliminate a key threat and quickly move into position to remove the next one
-Use the units together for max output (markerlights are a prime example)

Tau used to be awesome in 4th because they could do really nasty tricks with target priority (ie, pretty much ignore it). Now with 5th and that target priority no longer exists i believe they need something else to compensate for it.

I'd be quite interested to see Tau restyled, I've always liked them but not enough to collect them, mostly because of the ugly battlesuit's. If they greatly improve the look of them I'd be very tempted. If space Dwarves were involved I'd defintiely be interested.

About to eat your Avatar...

I too would like to see a bit of re-design put into Tau. Overall, I have honestly found them quite bland.

In terms of Vespids, make a model that actually looks like a freaking Vespid, and I would likely buy a few just for display. I am a big fan of some of the concept art for them, the sculpts are the real problem.

GW, make this... make it happen, Cap'n.

Some art seems to show Fire Warriors with two large shoulder pads instead of just one, as well as a different sort of look for Tau buildings.

I think its more likely Tau will get a new plastic kit in march with battle missions that a completely new codex.

I have never been tempted to start a Tau army myself, and wouldnt be if a new codex did come out, but i do quite like the look of those Vespid Stingwings. I may buy myself a kit, simply to paint, if i can get round to it.

Game wise Vespids are rubbish. Can be painted up a nice variety of different ways, though.

i recommend increasing the BS on their "elite" units without increasing their already bloated point cost. somehow i find it hard to believe that a veteran tau warrior who according to the fluff has served for a minimum 8 years (advanced from firewarrior to shas'ui, then to crisis suit and to crisis suit shas'vre, each step taking 4 years MINIMUM per the fluff) and yet they still have the marksmenship skills of a guardsmen who just graduated from boot camp... they need to make all the crisis suits BS4 base; these guys have super technology yet shoot the same as a human with an iron sight gun.

I do find it curious that the past few codexs have had quite a few battle scenes with Tau. SW and Nids have some particularaly nice artwork. Anyone know where I can find this art online? Codex art is usually cropped to a degree. Im now wondering if were going to see pictures of Death Company or a Furioso dread fighting Firewarriors and Crisissuits in the BA codex.

While it's possible that Tau are next in line for an update (and I do think that they need one), I don't think any snippet of text from the Tyranid book is any indication.

IIRC, the Planetstrike book referenced Dark Eldar as 'worshippers of Khaine' or something like that, which is entirely different from their current fluff. I think its just as likely that we'll see Dark Eldar as it is that we'll see new Tau.

My hunch is just that the studio Tau army looked good when contrasted with the Tyranids (notice that most of the pictures have Nids fighting shooty armies like Guard and Tau).

An independent model release is entirely possible, but I wouldn't take this piece of fluff to be evidence of that.
