Hi All,
I've been busy painting up my new chaos marines with a nice quick scheme:
Chainmail Basecoat
Details e.g. helmet horns, some trims Hawk Turquoise or Shining Gold
Badab Black wash followed by a Asurman Blue wash.
Weapons, boltgun metal base, Badab Black and then Devlan Mud.
This looks pretty reasonable and is very quick to produce (sorry theres no pics but my camera is rubbish). My problem has come trying to reproduce this scheme on the Rhinos and other tanks. The washes tend to pool to much and don't produce the uniforn staining that is present on the infantry. I have tried mixing Blue wash with the chainmail and airbrushing it on, but ran out of wash and the effect was still too silvery. Is there a way of getting the wash to just 'stain' the tanks armour without collecting in unsightly pools? Any advice greatfully recieved, thanks.

You could try adding in a little washing up liquid to make the wash more liquidy.
You can also try only doing one side at a time, and leaning the vehicle so that the wash is pooling in the right areas and letting it dry before doing the next side.

Thanks for the advice, how much washing up liquid would you suggest. I'm mixing the paint at 2:1 with water.

I personally have never done it, but I understand that you only need a very tiny quantity, probably 1 part washing liquid, to 10 parts water.
I would definately advise not adding it direct to your pot of wash, but use a small quantity of your wash to test it with (and a model or object you don't mind experimenting on).
For (perhaps) a more reliable result, use flow aid. http://thepaintingcorps.blogspot.com/2009/10/lbursleys-wash-recipe-released.html

Thanks again for the advice. My 7 pots of blue wash arrived today, and my spare airbrush pots, so I've the resources to find something that works, eventually

Had a simmilar problem on my IG tanks.
I solved it by applying some wash in one area at a times, then wiping at it with a paper towl. Works good with bone color. Be sure to do only one area at a times though. (turrent, front hull ect)

The key is (& sorry it isn't easy & fast) -
Use artist's oil paint.
Thin with white spirit.
Apply clean white spirit to the area of detail.
Touch a brush loaded with the thiined paint - the piant will flow arround the detail due to capillary action.
The key here is that you're not washing the whole model - just the panel lines, bolts, cast-on icons etc.
