I was just wondering what in your opinion the best empire/race was

Tau, hands down.

And now someone is going to bring up the whole "mind control" thing. And when they do, will they please include an official (not pet theory) reason that this actually exists? I have heard the thoughts on the matter, and people can be very convincing, but I want to know if GW intended to make the Tau a weird Eldar mind-control project.

If I remember the Tau mind control thing right it was some sort of pheromones. Tau aren't psychic. But I also remember it being hinted that they may have been an Eldar project. It doesn't seem like they could have just came out of no-where like the Tau codex suggests. Also how does the selective Caste breeding thing benefit the Water Caste? I can understand how the others are at least benefitted by some sort of physical trait that is kept in that Caste through it, but the Water Caste doesn't really have anything. Or is it simply because they're smarter and that's the trait that's supposed to be bred into that Caste?

I'm going to say the Imperium because they're getting attacked by everything...constantly and not being destroyed - yet.

I would also have to say Tau, if only for the fact that they're the only hint of brightness in the massively grimdark universe. Plus, they're made of luck (Considering they almost got completely destroyed...twice...and were saved by Deus ex Machina).

Tau are the equivalent of the Holocaust, but more subtle. They bascailly give you a choice when they take over your planet: Join them or be killed/enslaved, which they cover up with "Its for the greater good".

Tau are almost Tzeentchian when you think about it, they really are no better than the Imperium, they're just weaker, so can't be so blatantly arrogant - yet.

Chaos is ignorantly bliss, there is no restrictions, only pleasure, which is what people want in the Grimdark Univernse of the 41st Millennium.

Tau are protected by plot armor over and over again (Nids approaching Imperium, Tau saved) They're weak, and brainwashed citizens by the Ethereals, who I wouldn't doubt are powerful Chaos Sorcerers, or Eldar in disguise.

Tau aren't the best, 'nor the most peaceful. In the end, Orks win, they cannot be wiped out, and are extremely powerful. They are the ones who have achieved complete peace, there is no rabbling in Ork Society, they do what they love, and they kill what they don't, and there is no more bliss in being able to do that.

My favorite empire is the dark eldar. At all times it's violence, kinky sex, and crazy drugs, often all 3 at the same time and for Vect, all 3 at the same time in battle.

I love how Chaos is a actual race thier norsemen and their naturally tough living in bascially the frozen hellhole known as the chaos wastes.

But the 40k players are probably gonan troll me so i'll say....

i'll second dark eldar, I don't really know any fluff whatsoever but i just think their attitude, looks and ethos make them so much more interesting than any other race

Well that's debatable, there are basically two schools of thought..

OOh. I'm a cylon!!! I'd say Space Wolves are great because they have the nice kill everything in sight and screw the Imperium if they make stupid decisions.

Dark Angels are fun because of the whole covering up a dark past of half of them going evil and the other half staying loyal and trying to make up for it.

But then there's Eldar. They have such nice style to them. Colorful Aspect warriors that have better paint jobs instead of repetative space marines. Then there's the whole 'We are the reason you are so screwed' aspect. Without the Eldar there would be no Eye of Terror and no chaos forces coming out everywhere to kill everyone in sight. The total dedication to various aspects of war for some. Wise use of the departed souls.
