I'm a firm believer that if the player behind a list is a strong tactician, the meta game opponents will just be a slightly more difficult hurdle. I'm currently painting up a World Eaters list that I built with "awsome looking" in mind as apposed to something I can win with. So I've got a month to finish painting and playtest against my playgroup.

My friends can throw just about anything at me, mech IG, mech eldar, Siam Hann, Nids, Mech Tau, Drop Pod SM, shrike w/10 assualt termies and even if someone wants to take my Tau for a spin I have a Tau gunline with Dashofpepper written all over it. So I'll go over the peices I have to fit into a WE list at the moment:

Kharn
DP

14 Khorne chosen ( or havocs) 10 w/ meltaguns , 4 of them are designed so I can switch to flamers

40+ Berzerkers
6 champs 3 with fists, 3 with power weapons

4 Rhinos

10 Raptor w 2 meltaguns and a champ w fist

1 Land Raider

4 Obliterators

3 Predators ( pending, don't quite have them yet )

Oh and I'm not really looking for advice on how to build a list. I'm looking for advice on how to use the peices I have if they were in a list. To start I'm trying to decide what to do if I faced an IG tank brigade. I'm thinking I would outflank the chosen and use empty rhinos to proved cover to the full transports.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Using empty transports to screen full transports is a key ingredient for heavily mechanized lists....especially those with light armor (read: orks, Dark Eldar) and it works for rhino walls as well.

All those berzerkers need to get into close combat as fast as chaotically possible. Can you purchase an rhino for the chosen? I'm envisioning a Land raider flanked by empty rhinos providing a screen for berzerker laden rhinos behind them, which in turn are providing a screen for the raptors advancing behind them.

Against an IG tank brigade, you're going to be trying to shake or stun (or better) as many vehicles as possible while you're crossing the field to minimize the lethality of anti-tank coming your way. I know you're not looking for list-building advice, but if you could add a second land raider to this procession, your ability to screen/protect your berzerkers as they cross the field would jump by an order of magnitude. Land raiders move 12", pivot and present side armor (lol) to the enemy, and you've got a veritable wall for your rhinos and raptors to hide behind.

Just my two cents.

I'm totally open to advice on what to put in a list and the tactics/synergy to use with it, all I was trying to avoid full lists being proposed. A second Land Raider is something I've considered picking up. Two LR's and 3-4 rhino's charging in can be a scary sight, I think I'm sold on using two squads of chosen with five melta guns. I'll also always take rhinos for them so I always have the option to hot drop them depending on my opponent. 35 points of mobile cover, a new ride for squads that get their ride wrecked, maybe a tank shock or two. If the chosen's rhinos are left empty the're still very valuable, not to mention with 10 melta guns outflanking my opponents may deploy and maneuver in a way thats benificial to the zerkers.

I'm not sure the raptors will ever find a place, the tournament is 1850 and I really can't find a place for them. I'm wondering if the prince has a place in my army, with all the close combat goodness coming from the berzerkers and Kharn, he may just be a little redundant. The points could be added to the heavy support slot. If I did add a second Land Raider ( which would be the end of my money spending on this army ) I could do this:

Kharn

5 Chosen 5 w/melta guns
- rhino

5 Chosen 5 w/melta guns
- rhino

7 Khorne Berzerkers
1 Champ w/PF
- rhino

7 Khorne Berzerkers
1 Champ w/PF
- rhino

8 Khorne Berzerkers
- in LR with Kharn

7 Khorne Berzerkers
1 Champ with a power weapon
- in LR

2 Land Raiders with daemonic possesion

The only thing I don't like about this is the complete lack of long range firepower. It could also be that I'm completly addicted to Obliterators and taking them out makes it feel incomplete.
