Captain Sicarius vs 5 tactical marines, one has a power fist. Close combat, fluff wise only.

Why did Sly Marbo wait until the Sergeant had done the deed before killing everyone?

I tend not to agree, it would"ve been a loss if every Ultramarine was dead (and no, I'm not UM fan) and the Hive Mind had it for dinner...Now THAT would've meant the battle was lost
And as for Sicarius, he'd definitely win...I mean, the guy fought M'Kar who ran back crying to his daddy in the Warp...and he's rumoured to be Calgar's heir...so 5 Marines? no chance

The Marines would probably win if they attacked together. Sicarius shoots one as he comes in, stabs another, the remaining two guys dogpile him and pin him down, Sergeant punches, that's it. If Sicarius fought them one at a time or otherwise prevented them from working together, though, he'd probably be able to take them out.

Based on his initiative, weapons skill, rank, and background, Sicarius would not simply stab one guy and say "oh no, now i am dead". He would fight defensively, slashing at the stubby arms marines with his gigantic sword and shooting them in the head with his plasma pistol. There is no way he would get tackled.
EDIT: additionally all he has to do is shoot the power fist wielder once with his plasma pistol and the more major threat to him is over. Seriously, it would not even be a close fight.

Killing a Marine is non-trivial. Realistically, 5 Marines working together could probably take down most Marine characters, as long as at least one of them had an appropriate weapon and the others were careful to shield that guy.

That's a ridiculous idea. So, with that logic, Ahriman would lose to five regular Berzerkers or even 1k Sons. Or I'm sure Kharn would easily fail to kill five UM Tac-... Wait a minute! He can kill full squads by himself!
Better yet, I'm sure Vulkan He'Stan would be a simple case of slam him with a power fist...
But seriously, after they've been chapter master or even a big character, they'd EASILY take down a ten-man squad of marines. Captain Sicarius... I'd say he'd have a damn good chance.

Since Ahriman can teleport in fluff, that seems unlikely.

Kharn is also far better than most. In fact, he's probably one of the best combatants out there.
Lorgar's_Blessed wrote:Better yet, I'm sure Vulkan He'Stan would be a simple case of slam him with a power fist...
Vulkan's special equipment would probably let him succeed, though without his pre-Heresy relics I doubt he would fare particularly well.

I think Sicarius would have a chance, but my money would probably still be on the Marines.

No, Vulkan wouldn't have troubles. He's a superior combatant like all Chapter Masters and is an extreme of a superhuman. Point being, if he had normal equipment like regular Tacs, he'd still kick their arses.
Besides, you said most characters would die to a combat squad. So if that was true, they'd get to use their wargear as that's what makes the character them. So the point of Vulkan using regular stuff is idiotic.

I'd put my money on the marines. Here is how it plays out in my mind: Sicarius is hanging around the barracks drinking coffee. He sees his boys walk up, gives them a friendly head nod, and then they cap him. Totally caught off guard.

Five marines should also be able to out shoot most marine characters for a couple turns before that character could even think about assaulting. Marines are tactically sound soldiers. They recognize the value of shooting, and how to approach fighting different opponents. Five marines should be able to take out even the toughest marine character. They should be able to shoot the heck out of even Abby before he gets into combat with them.

Vulkan isn't a Chapter Master. Tu'Shan is the Chapter Master of the Salamanders. He'Stan is just the Forgefather aka 4th Company Captain.
Point being, if he had normal equipment like regular Tacs, he'd still kick their arses.
Those tacticals are just as super human as he is. Vulkan has his gear and his experience. That's his advantage over them. Sicarius is somewhat less protected than Vulkan though I think.
