Subject: IG and allied =I= questions?

hello
3 questions:
mainly to IG players, do you run an =I=. or if you face an IG player regularly, do they use one?
how well does it work for you?
do you run the Elite or the HQ version?
i've been running the Elite =I= and i'm debating whether i should move up to the HQ =I= or drop him all together.
i'm thinking that the LD 10 would be of help. i've had less than stellar results in the last several games causing me to
question the idea over all.
thanks

I use an Elite Malleus Inquisitor with two Mystics. If I have points left I add three Warriors w/ Meltaguns so the unit isn't useless against non-deep Strikers.
If I'm looking for a Hood I usually take a lone Brother-Captain w/ Hood. Cheapest Ld 10 Hood available. If I take this though I usually don't take the Mystics.
If I feel like I need a Hood AND Mystics, I suppose the HQ Inq Lord w/ Hood and Mystics would be better, but I think thats a lot of points in an IG army spent on defensive units that could potentially be useless against my opponent.

I usually take an elite Ordo Malleus Inquisitor with the Emperor's Tarot and 2 Mystics. Emperor's Tarot gives you a +1 to the roll to go first 5/6 of the time which is great for IG where you want first turn and 2 Mystics allows a unit with in 12 inches to shoot deepstrikers if the deepstrikers are within 4d6 for some anti deepstrike protection.
I been debating upgrading to the HQ Ordo Malleus Inquisitor Lord for leadership 10 and adding a Psychic hood but that requires adding a 3rd henchman and as Kadun said it is a bit of points and Guard lists are really tight on points. Tyranids and Space Wolves have some pretty good Psychic powers that might be worth trying to stop though.

I don't generally run my Inquisitors in my IG lists, but if I did it would either be a Lord with Hood and 2HB/1PC servitors, with mystics if needed or just sages. You might not need BS4 HBs and PCs, but I find they help a lot.
Alternately, I run an Inq lord with Psycannon, 3 Plasma warriors, 2 sages and 3 CombiPlasma Acolytes in a rhino. ~200 points, but it makes a great bubble of "smash your face" to units that want to DS near it, and then units that fear all the AP2. Granted, I run it with Sisters, who don't really have good access to Plasma.
Really though, it depends on what your army is light on, and what you worry about. I find the mystics get very little action, but then I don't play many DeepStrike heavy armies.

okay, sorry folks. i was half asleep when i posted. i should have been more specific.
i face Demons or Eldar 4/6 times. i've been running the Eite Demonhunter =I=. the main reason i run one is for the Hood and for mystics. other than the Hood, i run him bare bones bolter/ccw.
nothing fancy to conserve points. i 've been keeping him parked next to a Demolisher. the first couple of times i ran him it was great. then recently not so great. and in all fairness it was mostly
due to my horrid dice rolling. i'm to the point where ithink i'm going to spend the points and run him as a Lord, or divert them into something else entirely. with all the DSing demons and Eldar
powers that go off it seems like every turn they're great when they work as intended. but lately it feels like more of a points dump.

As an elite: Double mystics and the emperor's tarot, don't both with a Ld 8 psyhic hood
As an HQ: Same but with the hood and 1 extra henchman
Alot of people run ridiculous arrays of weapons, sages and other crap, but anything you put on the inquisitor's unit is going to be more expensive than kitting out one of your IG squads. Niether inquisitor really wants to pick fights either. Best approach is just to kit them exclusively for what your army needs and and noth bother with other henchmen. Since you're playing IG it's also a good idea to let him ride a vendetta. The mystics, hood and tarot all function without LoS and you're now measuring distances from the largest vehicle in the game short of apocalypse. If you have the points you can give the inquisitor a bolt pistol or something, but this guy really doesn't even want to see the light of day.

I've played quite a few games with Inquisimystics hanging out in a Valkyrie at this point and he's a real mixed bag. In a lot of games you're literally giving your opponent a 32pt handicap, which is super lame. He can do great things against stuff like Bloodcrushers/deepstriking Terminators/Spodding nids/etc provided you have something in your list to really capitalize on the free shots (like an Executioner).
At this point, I'm moving away from the IQ in favor of stuff that works all the time. He's 2 free killpoints if there aren't aggressive deepstrikers, which is not a good thing. I also feel like you can still do well against Crushers/Daemons if you deploy right and pick the right targets when you get to shoot in your shooting phase, so I don't really think that he is necessary for even that matchup.
He can be cheeky though, and can really make things easy sometimes. Sometimes is the important word there though, because other times he is a compelte waste of 32 points.

so you don't even bother with the Hood, correct?

i use the Hierophant to give him a Ld 9. but i'm coming around to your way of thinking of Ld. 10 or nothing.
i'm just not sure if it's worth the 87 points to get to Ld. 10.
=I= w/ bolt pistol & ccw = 47
hood = 20
2 mystics = 12
1 hierophant = 8

87 points is steep. I am currently running just the Elite Inquisitor with 2 Mystics and nothing else. I've actually been fairly disappointed with its performance.
Against some opponents, its presence is a deterrent, which is good but its applications are so limited.
I'm actually thinking about switching them out for an Astropath. My reason being, if my opponent has enough Deep Strikers for me to worry about (Drop Pod Marines, Demons), I'd just reserve everything. A bonus is that I could also use the same tactic if I'm facing another shooty army and I don't get to go first.
The new 'nid MC that can continually deep strike has me re-thinking that choice, however, though I'm not sure I want to base army list decisions on a single unit from a single codex.

well, if you go that route you might as well get the OotF as well. bump your reserves and slow their reserves.

I run an Inquisitor Lord with mystics and 3 henchmen with plasma guns, an Inquisitor with mystics and 3 henchmen with plasma guns, and an Inquisitor with 3 henchmen with melta guns in my IG list.
I buy chimeras for my CCS, PCS and instead put them in Vendettas. This frees up their Chimeras for my Mystic Inquisitors. The melta Inquisitor I put into a third Vendetta.
Instead of being more or less useless point handicaps in games where my opponent has no deepstrike, they contribute greatly to the special weapon density of my army with cheaper plasmaguns on a more resilient platform (carapace armor standard) that is also cheaper than most other 3-weapon squads without cutting down on my melta number.
As an added bonus they have targeters so I know exactly what I can shoot at for max effect.

Holy smoke, that's alot of points invested in =I=! being in an IG list, do you find other areas of your list that suffer from committing that many points to them?
i'm impressed. i never hear of more than one =I= in a list.

+1 for the cheap, carapace armored plasma guns. The only thing I'm worried about is whether or not to have them ride in Valks or swap rides with my Chimera mounted infantry. The problem with the former is that then the Valk doesn't score and has zero fire points (but a larger hull for mysticness) and the problem with the latter is they spend a turn outside before they can embark on the chimera.

DH Inquisitor Lord (0-1 HQ using DH allies)
DH Inquisitor (0-1 Elite using DH allies)
WH Inquisitor (0-1 Elite using WH allies)
The Allies options are separate, self-contained FOC options in each codex. Further, each codex and FAQ specifically allows an army with DH allies to take WH allies.
This allows 3 Inquisitors to be present in one Imperial army.

As mentioned above, warriors are the cheapest place to put plasma guns in the IG army, AND they get a 4+ armor save. Great place to stick defensive AP 2 weapons.
I run an Inquisitor Lord, mainly because I love taking a Callidus/Marbo combo, the infinite range hood, and the tarrot. If you get desperate, him and his force can also tar pit a walker or a MC for a bit.

inquisitor with mystics in a vendetta for 32 points to me is worth it. The times that there are no deepstrikers, ya you feel angry, but when there are, boy are you glad. Also I sometimes run a trio of hydras and I usually have the hyras shoot the deep-strikers. How fluffy is that, the AA unit shooting stuff in the air?

Thats exactly the trade off. You lose scoring status though you save points.
Personally, I believe the best source of Plasma in IG is the Executioner, I run two as the backbone of my army. That being said, if you do want Plasma Guns in the list, Warriors are probably the best buy.

Considering you can take 2 vet squads with melta and a platoon, that gives you 5 scoring units.
Stick them all in transports and your scoring worries should be well taken care of.
It's 80 pts for 3 bs4 special weapons with 4+ armor from elites. Outside of pbs there is not much there for IG.
