I am looking to get a demon prince into my IW army. I quite like the current GW model (in the absence of a plstic kit), but it doesn't look very iron warrior-ish.

I have seen/heard of a few conversion ideas but i am not sure what woudl be best to do.

Obviously it needs to have wings/flight modelled onto it. - some people chop the skulls off the pack and mount raptor jump packs instead, some people use wings...but which ones are too big/small?

I also heard that one guy used one of the defile heads on the model...not sure how he managed this though.

Any help woudl be much appreciated as this woudl be the first "proper" conversion i have done. Any links to pics woudl also be much appreciated.

One idea i did have was to give it beefed up "daemonic" servo arms (just for the look, woudl not affect the play of the model). Not sure what would be the right scale though....would defiler legs look too stupidly big you think?

Praxiss, I made a Iron Warriors daemon prince a while ago. The defiler head works more like a mask, you just attach it over the daemon princes face. To make mine more robotic I did not use the open hand but instead cut out the metal pincher hand comes with the Chaos Dreadnought metal kit. The other thing I started to do before trading it and the whole Iron Warriors army to my buddy was converting one of the legs. I took the left leg and cut off the upper part of the leg down to the top of the knee armor. I was going to buy some round plastic tubing from Evergreen scale and make mechanical pistons for his upper leg. Never got to this point but just thought I would share my idea of what I was going to do with you.

Hmm, soudns good. I don't have a metal Dreadnought.....but i do have a spare pincer from a necron tomb spider...that might work. just have to see if it will be big enough.

Did you have to fiel down the head to get the mask over the face or did it just slot right on?

I am tryign to think of waysthat the raptor pack thign coudl work without being tupid (i have a few spare lying around) but i'm struggling. Mounting them in place of the skulls just sounds silly. but i woudl prefer some sort of giant jup pack to wings if possible. I was also thinking of tryign to find some Gundam style, robotic looking wings in the right scale but no idea where i woudl get them.
i really liek the leg idea too. I small pice of (i'm guessing here) 5 or 6mm diameter tubing woudl probably do it.

Based on the reply above i am thinking of using a dreadnought arm to relace the hand on a metal demon prince. I dont have a DP model now but coudl i get an opinion on the following arms from FW?

This one is a bit more "nurgly" than i woudl have liked but it has a nice techno-organic look that coudl work for an IW demaon Prince.

Ok, it's a SM drwad arm, but the siege look coudl work well for an IW Prince. I coudl always add spike to it or something.

Just the standard SM claw arm. Baic but effective.

I woudl chop the arm off from the elbow and simply pin/glue the fist part in place of the DP open hand. Opinions?

I think the jetpack thing maybe needs replaced with something else. Maybe you can replicate something like the propellers on a FW blight drone, as it would tie nicely into the elongated exhaust on the backpack (after the skulls had been removed oviously)

the seige drill hand would look awesome, and ties in with IW being old seige specialists. Now instead of drilling through walls it's now used to make Insta Imperial Pâté. Chunky.
Maybe remove the sword hand instead, might be overkill with both sword and drill. Leaving the open hand displays the strength f the DP and shows that it is equally a viable weapon.

Good point, i was trygin to think of somethgin to do with the sword. I can't seem to find a proper sized hammer to replace it with. I was also thinking of using a seismic hammer off an Ironclad dread.

With the props from the blight drone (or similar) it woudl look more liek on of the old school jump packs. That woudl be cool. not a clue where i woudl start making them though. My conversion work all amounts to various degrees of kit-bashing. i've never made anythgin from scratch before.

The old school chaos dred hammer is rather large. I used to use that for my IW Lord back in the day(the hammer not the whole arm) Just keep in mind that IW are very robotic looking in their demons (according to fluff and all that) I made a prince once that used the olmetal juggernaught head and a demon body. The looked really cool. But Id agree on using dred parts, it just fits too well.

convert him like the iw daemmon prince in storm of iron, he has a huge axe and wings, dont go too nuts on the cyborg body because its daemonic flesh it is made out of, so youd would gs some growing muscle over any mech bits, but hey go nuts iron warriors rock, i think you could get a defilers claw for one arm and a huge axe, just gotta be the huge axe

I think a defiler claw might be a too big for the DP model. I am goignto have look at using a dreadought arm. And i am also thinking of using the nozzles form a land speeder engine section to make a big jump pack.

The main body itself will be untouched.

i'm thinking of going with regal blue base for the flesh, thena blue wash and layer it up to shadow grey. You see too many red DPs around for my liking.

Here's an IW DP I converted up a few years back:

The leg is from a Sentinel, the arm is from a Deff Dread or Killer Kan and an autocannon is attached to the gun barrel. Not sure what I'd do for wings/jumppack though.

Thnak,s that looks really good. Not sure i am going to play replace one of the legs just yet.

I like the way you used the gripper hand but managed to keep the forearm armour form the original model.

I made my Iron Warriors Daemon Prince from the Inquisitor scale Space Marine, He is huge and clad in armour, I added daemonic horns and various other bits. In my opinion he retains the Power of a Chaos Marine with the size and imposing stature of a monstrous creature.

Of course mine doesn't have wings, but adding wings to the backpack wouldn't take a lot of modelling skill.

Your Daemon Prince is amazing Thanatos, especially modelling the Deff Dread arm into the DP arm.

You should give him a propellar like a helicopter. That way he is a Transformer. Very Demony.

Have you considered using the witch hunters penitent engine as a base.

I'm not sure how it fits togeather but try and 'chain' in a smaller daemon kind of like the Daemonhunters Daemonhost models are strapped up?

Well, here's what I did some years back, still think it holds scrutiny pretty well amongst most Iron Warriors themed Deamon princes. Gave him a bionic leg and a jump pack system, along with a more iconic hammer rather than
sword.

I thoght about using the penitent engine but i actually liek the current DP model.

A couepl of other suggestions i am looking into: whirlwind issiel system mounted on the back upside down, with speeder engien nozzels - looks very chunky.

Another suggestion was to use a couple of chopped down valkyrie (sp?) engines. Unfortunately all these parts seem to be pretty har to coem by on their own.

He's slightly taller than the current DP model but not so broad. But if he was given dragon wings or similar sproating from his back/backpack, then he'd be much bigger.

Awesome model! I like how you've used the raptor packs to make three single nozzles rather than justtackign on the dual packs. I might have to steal that idea off you to save some cash. the leg looks quite technical to me and i would be nervoud abotu trying somethign that complicated. I HAVE to try and find an old dread hammer to replace the sword.

Also bidding on a metal chaos dread pincer. Not as nice as the hammer but will do as a last resort.

I know it's a bit late, but I know someone who converted a defiler/soulgrinder (can't remember which) to stand on two legs for his IW DP. He used some balrog wings which kept the model looking allright. Sorry I dont have any pics

95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building, copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair & grab some popcorn and yell JUMP!!!!!
Inquiring minds want to know: Do cos-players carry a costume version of the emergency roadside kit we all have in our cars?

92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you are one of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your sig.

I actually have a soulgrinder kit that i was goign to use to make Perturabo, but never got round to it. I might use some of the bits as extra armor plates. maybe even replace one of the Dp thighs with a piece of defiler leg.

based on the picture of the DP above on coolmini, i am pretty much decided on what to use for the jump pack. if i can get hold of a dread hammer i am set for the weapon as well.

If i was doing it i think i'd use a sentinal as the base (demon possed machine and all that jazz), break most of the parts and sculpt on muscle as if the muscles burst from inside each part and attached to the sentnal using it almost like bones rather than 'growing' it's own. As for the wings i think it would look pretty cool to have the main bit made like imperial wings, chunky etc, then the bottom edges ripped open with more leathery type wings protruding out so it's half machine part, half wing, maby with horns sticking out from the upper edges. The defiler heads pretty cool without the mask (see ad mech thread in my sig), it can be cut off it's round mount quite easy and attached as needed.

Good luck with the project, be sure to post some pics when you get started!

I was thinking about IW daemon prince too, and the only idea i got was: PP Warmachine Cryx Helljacks! The Nightmare or Deathjack for example is pretty much the right size, and look like both daemon and iron. Like a Csm who earned daemonhood, but was, with it, bonded to his armour. I think that would look pretty good, especially when one don't want to use the GW 40k Daemonprince as a base.

Why not base one on the Dreadnaught instead a Dread as the leader of an Iron Warriors Warband seems great to me.

Ok, got the DP model and am soaking it to try and strip it even as we speak.

I have a couple of semi-firm ideas fo conversions that i think i can pull off. Here's the plan:

Jump Pack: bits of or whole raptor packs mounted in place of the normal back pack.

This is a given.

Face: If i can find a spare, i will try using one of the "skull" defiler heads as an armoured mask.

Now the arms....i'm a bit at a loss of what to do here, i have a few different ideas:

Sword hand - replace sword for some sort of hamme made out of plasticard. OR replace the whole arm in favour of a dreadnought siege arm.

AND/OR

open hand - replace with some sort of robot claw or gripper.

That's pretty much it. Nothing too major, but they will definately give the DP an IW theme.
