Hi guys,

Just got myself a bargain copy of the new Rogue Trader core rulebook, and I think it is vunderbar!

However, it has got me thinking. The group I usually GM is currently using the DH rules, and has just finished a campaign. A bunch of new guys wanna join. My question is, has anyone found any major difficulties in merging the two systems? I'm thinking of letting the new guys be the RT characters and having the old guard from DH board their ship to get to a new sector, but all hell breaks loose on the way.

Any comments? titbits? advice?

RT works at a much higher power level than DH. I don't know the exact "exchange rate," as it were, but a first "level" RT character is much more powerful than his DH counterpart. FFG is releasing a book for DH called Ascension, which will allow DH and RT to bridge properly. Until then, I can only recommend experimenting if you must bring DH characters into a RT campaign or vice versa.

Have you visited the FFG Forums? Both the DH and RT sides have threads discussing integration.

A beginning RT Level 1 character equals ( in XP ) a DH character with 5000 XP. The RT characters have higher starting Stats and better gadgets. The DH characters with 5K XP have a wider range of Skills and Talents.

Sort of.

A Rank 1 RT character is equivalent to a Rank 5 DH character. That said, putting one against the other is not an instant win for the RT character. A Rank 5 DH character often has better skills, better talents - more skills and more talents for that matter - and by the time they reach Rank 5 have a hefty amount of cool weapons and equipment. Moreover these talents/skills/weapons etc. are all tailored and geared towards how the character fights and interacts with other people, thus they are more specialist. A Rank 1 RT character has a smaller amount of skills, talents, a limited amount of equipment and virtually no customisation. Yes, it's true, over time they will become better than their DH counterparts (they'll reach a DH equivalent rank of 15, which DH characters cannot reach), but initially they're more of a blank slate, a decent blank slate with excellent "Universal" skills and good weapons, but no where near as effective as a Rank 5 DH character at any specific task.

As far as mixing the rules together - the rules mesh in every way except Psychic Powers, which use a different system. The RT rulebook explains how they can be made to work with one another.

I thought RT greatly freed up the equipment. DH was kind of punishing. Bolter rounds were even hard to come by--maybe just in my group.

It does, but not immediately. My point is a starting RT character, whilst being equivalent in EXP to a Rank 5 DH character won't be as good as a Rank 5 DH character because the Rank 5 DH character has picked all their advances, and has all that time to get good weapons/equipment and so on.

So the DH character is more "comfortable in their own skin" in a manner of speaking?

Yes, that's a good way of putting it.

My fiend started a DH/RT crossover lately and things are going pretty well.
The only trouble he has is with Psyker powers.
The system is different for them and it kinda sorta explains how to convert but it's not very satisfying. >.>
