Subject: Ork Gunline (Direction help needed)

During a lull in my spending spree, while I base and finish what I have, I was wondering if the folks here had any advice on where I should head for the future...
My current lists centre around:
2 Deffcoptas with TLR.
3X Slugga boyz (each with 1X big shoota)
10X lootas
1X SAG Mek
1X warboss (attack squigg, sometimes cybork or heavy, most time bike)
3X bikers (nob with PK included)
6X flashgitz with painboy (more dakka and shootier)
3X big gunz (zapp gunz with extra grots and runtherd)
Sometimes nobz, sometimes stormboyz. Sometimes Battlewagon with zapp gun and deffrolla
Running a pure gunline list I found was suicid, so advice to switch to that is silly, as is fielding other 'pure' lists. I play best under faux gunline conditions but I usually have backup choppyness to deal with the wyches and assault marines that I verse. So what would you buy next, assuming no points limit and a 75/25 shooty to choppy ratio.

Killa kanz with grotzookas and kff meks to give them 4+ saves the grotzookas give them shooty and the 3 front av11 walkers per squadron paired with dccw give them choppy.

So essentially add a kan wall? Curious, except the HQ slot is already full. That's a little downer on that idea, but I'll keep it in mind.

I missed the warboss on the list, thats my bad but if you hold them back for a counter assault unit with some shooting kick/cover save for the lootas/big gunz you might not actually need the kff.

If you truly like gunlines with a bit of melee backup, then you really can't do better than just swarming the board with regular shootas.
- The bikes are a waste of points, and are unlikely to outperform shootas in either melee or shooting.
- The flash gitz are a waste of points, and are unlikely to outperform shootas in either melee or shooting.
The rest are out of the norm, but I'm not going to say that they are the worst things ever fielded.
If you truly wanted to create a tough shooting line though, you really just can't get better than lootas and shootas. A very basic build of shootas will generally outperform most army's shooting, including players that specialize in shooting such as Tau:
4 x groups of 30 shootas (nob, + klaw of course)
3 x groups of 15 lootas
1 biker boss
1 mek w/ KFF
By fielding this, you've presented no valuable targets for the players to shoot at. Moreover, you've placed 240 str 4 shots, and 45 to 135 str 7 shots, with no quick and easy way for the player to get them off the board.
Your army can march forward eliminating enemies, and assault when the opportunity presents itself. The primary weaknesses to the build are:
- Mobile units in high armor vehicles can reach your line, with little or no chance of being stopped by incoming fire.
- AV14 is largely able to ignore you unless you wail on it with a klaw, which requires painfully close range.
However, those weaknesses are mitigated by the overall strength of the army. With well over 150 wounds on the table, most armies simply don't have enough shots to get weaken your units significantly. Moreover, when units do assault you, you have a move, waaagh!, and assault for any units nearby to run in and counter the opponent. Don't let shoota's fool you... They aren't that much worse at hand to hand than a slugga is, and that's quite tough for a 6 point guy.
While your boys don't have much armor, they do have a 5+ (or 4+ for those in terrain) cover save, which makes them significantly harder to kill than they should be at their point cost.
If you wanted to take your SAG regardless of the cost to keep in with the shooting theme, you could always toss the warboss out and pick up the SAG. I admit, I enjoy watching pie plates eating terminators, too, but the boss is a hard trade for that joy.

The problem with your suggestion, my good sir, is that you've completely sacrificed all hand to hand combat in your suggestion, and that's a nono against the lists I play against.
(As a side note, my flashgitz have out performed every other unit they've played next to)

As much as I like the idea of Flash Gitz, I'm going to have to agree with Carnuss on this. They just aren't worth it. I mean, for their point cost, you could get 6x Nobs and Painboy with Big Choppas, a Bosspole, a Waagh! Banner, and still have some points left over to throw into the Shoota upgrades, though you should find a way to give them all Cybork Bodies. Now, a few questions pop into my mind. What exactly do you mean by 3x Slugga boyz, as I'm sure that the min squad size is 10. Another question is, how many points is your army? As for the Bikers, you're 5 points short of being able to switch them for a second Squad of 2x Deffkoptas with TL Rokkit Launchas, which are, imho, better.

3 squads of 15 slugga boys.
Points vary and this is a discussion on what the next unit to come into would synergize with this list....
As much as I agree they don't work on paper.... when you take them for a laugh and they end up almost kicking the butt of the inquisition (Witch-hunters list) you tend to drool and try them again. Oddly enough the only time they have not served me was the time the oponent fielded a landraider.... but at least they stopped my big gunz from being popped first turn.

How have you sacrificed all hand to hand combat by going with shootas? Shootas have more than 75% of the effectiveness of slugga on the assault, which is still considerably more than most opponents.
For instance, if you take 180 points of shootas vs. 180 points of marine tactical squad:
Space marines swing 11 times, hit 5.5, wound 2.75, and you save 1/6, so you take 2.29 wounds. Let's just round up and say 3 boys died.
27 boyz now get to swing back, swinging 81 times, hitting 40.5, wounding 20.25, which is 6.75 dead marines. To be generous, we'll round down to only 6 dead marines.
Orks lost 18 points. Marines lost 108 points.
And that's just with a basic loadout, and without shooting them first, which you would of course get to do. You field what you want. It sounds like you aren't actually asking for suggestions so much as you are just saying "what I field is already the best", so have fun with it.

How about 45 more slugga boyz to fill out your mobs and just like written above just cause they are shoota boyz don't mean they can't break faces in assaults.
Someone is bound to post the best wisdom I read on these forum about orks. Has to do with Orks being the best at everything as long as they focus on that one thing (i.e if you going shooty you have to go all shooty) and the shootiest ork unit are Loota Boyz. 3 squads of 15 would be devastating I have 2 squads of 15 and they are feared at my FLGS. I will be getting the last mob of lootas in the future.

Hiyas. So, I'm an ork player her ein Seattle, and my army selection is huge so I change the config up alot. I've mainly been playing against my biuddy's marines, so I take a wb/bigmek hq pairing with alot of armor crakckin stuff. My number one mantra as an ork player is to make the opponent make me get out of my vehicles.
I've never really relied upon my shooting, even though my mobs are equipped most of the time with shootas. I'm all about the ferocity of them in close quarters. Now my buddy is doing nyds, and this short list works great against him in a 1250 point contest: WB with upgrades, and his squad of 5 nobs w/a painboy, cybork, etc. those guys in a BW, 4 squads of 15 boys w/shootas, n a nob n klaw and then with the WB is a 2 more groups of 12 boys w/nob etc. in trucks.
What I use for a shooty only army is a 2 Big Mek HQ list all with Def Dreds, and 9 kans with BW's and Trucks galore all taking advantage of the 2 Mek's force field cover saves in thier vehicles. Just woke up and did my wake n bake, but I will send you 2 or 3 detailed army lists you can look at.
Also.... I have to say as much as I like to use stormboyz... I hate Boss Zagstruck and think he's a big a waste of points as flash gits are. Much love to my 2 groups of 15 lootas..... that field of fire they can throw down is sweet. Oh, and grots.... lots o grots.... I kill terminator space marines with swarms of grots, it's too funny.
