Anyway, I plan on building up an Eldar force that has no Guardians, just Dire Avengers. However, I sort of prefer the guardian models. My basic plan was to run guardians as the regular dire avengers while I use DA exarchs for the exarchs in the squads. Would you play against that or would you call shenanigans?

Please note, I'm not doing it to save money, just because I think I would like that makeup better. Does the money matter as long as its GW/clearly modeled?

I wouldnt have a problem with it as long as you made it clear what each is and as long as they have the correct weapons. I dont know Eldar very well so others may have a problem with it.

As long as there aren't any Guardian squads, I can't see any problem with this

It should be fine, the only difference wargear wise between DA and guardians (other then exarch and warlock) is that the DA barrels for their shuirken rifles are longer (hence why they're better in the first place) so as long as you make it clear that they're DA then everything should be fine, unless you vs some person

90% of players that you see aren't going to know the difference between a guardian and a dire avenger. They'll see your army list, they'll see the models on the table, make a connection, and that's it.

9% of players that you see are going to realize that you're using guardian models for "counts as" dire avengers, and are going to recognize that GW invented the phrase "counts as" and encourages players to do so via instructions in the 40k rulebook.

1% of players are going to have an issue with you, and make a fuss solely because they're losing to you, and want an excuse like "If I had known those were dire avengers, I would have done something differently."


My point: You won't see that 1% very often. but on the off chance that it ever happens, get in the habit of pointing the model out to your opponents VERY CLEARLY and announcing that those are dire avengers. Don't say, "These are guardians that I'm using as dire avengers, just say "These are my dire avengers." I play orks, and the only difference between my ork boys and my ork kommandos are the paint jobs (and the associated special character Snikrot).

Simply put I dont like Proxying all that much, but I'm not gonna be a bitch about it. However, if you modle the modles to look "more" than JUST guardians, then I'd be cool with it.

ex: use green stuff to make em look more "important" or what ever.
