I'm a big fan of metal on my models. I generally paint anything made of metal in an actual metallic and then paint over it in a proper colour, since I figure this is how it woud be done. This also allows for some cool weathering effects.

The point is this requires alot of metallic colours. I currently use Boltgun, Tin Bitz and Mithril Silver. However, I had another one made by Revell that I used alot, as seen all over Gazy here:

I was dismayed to find out that I was completely out of it the other day, as this is one of my favourite paints. I tried mixing black and Boltgun, but its still so damn shiny (but still worth using).

So I have two questions:
a) do you know of any similar paints
b) more generally, are there any good metals that are different enough from the ones I'm using? I would love to add to my collection.

In a Society in which there is no law, and in theory no compulsion, the only arbiter of behaviour is public opinion. But public opinion, because of the tremendous urge to conformity in gregarious animals, is less tolerant than any system of law. When human beings are governed by "thou shalt not", the individual can practise a certain amount of eccentricity: when they are supposedly governed by "love" or "reason", he is under continuous pressure to make him behave and think in exactly the same way as everyone else.

I presume you've thought of the obvious gold, bronze and copper tones, then? You can get a GW version of all of them.

I haven't tried any of the other proper minis paint lines so I can't comment on them. I can say that watered down craft paint, like you'd buy in the larger tubes to use on small wooden boxes and such, doesn't ten to work nearly as well as hoped. Good for terrain, not for models.

Iv'e mucked about with them a little, and will probably add themt o my permanent at some point. However, i still fin them awfully shiny (maybe not bronze so much).

I suppose asking for non-shiny metallic is a tall order.

use a wash of bedab black of devlin mud over your metallics, It cuts way down on the shine factor. My favorite for my ork guns is bolt gun metal with bedab black wash.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. I'll admit I haven't used any washes yet, and its been making me feel terribly guilty. I will pick some up next time I get out to the GW store.
