Hi there Gang,

Here is my prospective list; have a looks-see:

HQ: Warboss, Bike, Power Klaw, Attack Squig

Troop 1: Paul’s 10 Nob Biker Spam (See Details Below)
Troop 2: 12 Speedy Red Trukk Boys, Nob, Power Klaw,

Fast 1: DashOfPepper’s 5 Deffkopta Spam (See Details Below)
Fast 2: DashOfPepper’s 5 Deffkopta Spam (Ditto)
Fast 3: DashOfPepper’s 5 Deffkopta Spam (Ditto)

Total: 1747

DashOfPepper's Deffkopta Spam originated from a post-reply from the aforesaid to a thread I had written requesting helpful suggestions for making use of the 15 deffkoptas which I had acquired from eBay (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/273452.page); his spam comprised the following 5-unit mob composition: 1. TL Rokkit, 2. TL Rokkit, Buzzsaw, 3. TL Rokkit, Bigbomm, 4. TL Rokkit, Buzzsaw, Bigbomm, 5. TL Big Shoota.

Paul's Nob Biker Spam was a reworking of DashOfPepper's Nob Spam; my spam list drops the ammo runts and includes twin-linked shootas, thusly: 1. Painboy, 2. Waagh! Banner, 3. Power Klaw, 4. Power Klaw, Kombi-Scorcha, 5. Power Klaw, TL Shoota, 6. Big Choppa, 7. Big Choppa, Kombi-Scorcha, 8. Big Choppa, TL Shoota, 9. Bosspole, 10. Regular Nob. Ammo runts seemed to serve no purpose other than to wound-allocate, which I would prefer do with more firepower and less likelihood of opponent cheese-themed complaints.

Battle Plan: Deffkoptas will flank & rear opponents with distant firepower destroying armor, monstrous creatures, etc.; bikernobs will hit soft targets; the trukkboys will block the opponents from charging the bikernobs and take objectives.

About me: I have been collecting for awhile without playing, and figured a list build would shape my industry; my orks are legion despite my want of play. I have all the material for this army above list on my desk, much of it not yet assembled and much less painted. (Man, after a month I finally finished a mob of shoota boyz!) So my intention is to factory out this build list, play with it (God willing), and then move on to another list. However, I would like my efforts to be directed to a competitive army.

I don't play orks, but I see some big problems with this list

Primarily is your desperate lack of scoring units. You have bikers, and you have trukk boys. I see you imagine your truck boyz as "guarding your nobs" but in reality I see them as being your opponents # 1 target. Knock them out and suddenly you can only control or contest 1 objective... ouch, forcing you to pretty much lose or draw.

anyway you cut it... you need more troops.

Big issues with the list that a normal Space Marine army can handle.

Nob Bikers fold to Termies w/ SS/TH. And they sit in Land Raiders.

Deff Koptas. 5 have a big footprint will get assaulted. There's no way to really beef up their Leadership. Once they are in assault, you're in trouble.

A single unit of 12 Boyz in a trukk don't last.

But, play it a few times and see what issues you discover with it.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Thanks, Fellas, for your feedback. You've both made valid points, exemplifying my tactical ignorance: of course that pathetic trukk mob would be the target to kill! However, my intention is to find something useful to do with those 15 deffkoptas, and despite their weak leadership profile and large "footprint," I need them in at least one list. I've nearly finished my first shoota mob (a lot of work!), here's a Modified Green Horde list, made with the above criticisms in mind:

HQ: Warboss, Power Klaw, Attack Squig, Kombi-Scorcha

Troop 1: 29 Sluggaboys, Nob, Power Klaw
Troop 2: 29 Shootaboys, 3 Big Shootas, Nob, Power Klaw
Troop 3: 29 Shootaboys, 3 Big Shootas, Nob, Power Klaw
Troop 4: 27 Grots, 2 Runtherds

Fast 1: DashOfPepper’s 5 Deffkopta Spam
(1. TL Rokkit, 2. TL Rokkit, Buzzsaw, 3. TL Rokkit, Bigbomm, 4. TL Rokkit, Buzzsaw, Bigbomm, 5. TL Big Shoota)
Fast 2: DashOfPepper’s 5 Deffkopta Spam
(See the Above)
Fast 3: DashOfPepper’s 5 Deffkopta Spam
(See the Above)
Total: 1748

What do you think?

I think this list possesses epic win.

Against balanced armies, turboboost the deffkoptas forward for a turn 1 assault with buzsaws. Its a great way to take out skimmers, as, being turn 1, they won't have moved and you will auto-hit with the buzzsaw.

The problem is, this tactic relies on you getting turn 1...

If this fails, target long-range death-tanks (russes) and soft heavy weapons teams, to ensure that the hard-hitting part of your force arrives unscathed.

On a final note, in objective-based battles, deploy the objectives close to your opponent. This may trick him into advancing forward with his troop units, which you can then roll over with your green tsunami. If that doesn't work, at least you don't have to leave any boyz behind to hold one in your deployment zone...

Well, I dunno if this is exactly the most serious/competitive list ever but it sounds like fun...

Total Roster Cost: 1998

Warbosses ride with the Deffkoptas, and the Trukks run behind. Every bike gets a 3+ cover save for boosting, and the Trukks get a 4+ cover save from the bikes in front of them.

All you do is charge on turn 2 with anything that wasn't shot dead.

Then it's either win big or lose big, but at least you know that going in, yes?

Probably should switch the wargear on the koptas up a little, for wound allocation purposes (ie what you did in your list).

I think if you want to go with Bikers and Koptas, you'll have a hard time affording it point-wise unless you opt for Wazdakka and regular bikers perhaps?

I dunno, having to force 15 koptas into a list kinda constricts what you are able to do, though I've had similiar thoughts myself (because let's face it, Deff Koptas are completely awesome).

By the way, you linked the wrong thread in your opening post - I know which one you are referring to tho.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey OP:

Couple of notes for you.

1. I agree about bikes + deffkoptas. Nob bikers are a potent list, but are point intensive. Putting a full beast of a squad of them into the same list as a fleshed out fast attack of deffkoptas is too much. You can theme one or the other, but not both.

2. Have you considered Wazdakka + regular bikes? They aren't ultra-competitive because of their cost, but if you're making those + deffkoptas your army, you'll have a unique advantage - your entire army has a 24" turbo-boost ability - if you get first turn, you can be in the enemy ranks on turn1, and if you don't get first turn, you can leave your entire army in reserve (or leave some/all deffkoptas on the table for pre-turn turbo-boost) and reach out on turn2+ at your discretion to beat on the enemy.

3. IF you're going to run foot-slogging troops, I'd encourage you to stick with shootas; you have a unit of sluggas in there. Roll with shootas, they're more effective.

4. If you're going to run foot-slogging troops, you're going to also have to manage games where you don't get first turn very carefully with troops in cover or hiding, or something. I think that if you put your deffkoptas out there, tacked on 4-5 trukks worth of ork boyz, stuck a big mek in there with a KFF to protect the trukks with a 4+ as you cross the field while the deffkoptas dive into the enemy ranks, you'll find some success.

Btw, here's a nice deff kopta into Rokkit Buggy conversion:

Seems simple to do.

That's a nice picture. o.O

OP - buggies are vehicles and can be protected by a Big Mek's KFF - if you turn some koptas into rokkit-buggies, add a KFF Mek to your trukk, you're in business for a KoS vehicle list.

Thanks, guys for your input. I'm trying to craft my first real battle list into a step guide for painting; with painting I'm both fussy and procrastinating: a bad combo. I have so much incomplete, among them two buggies, on of which I was thinking to convert into a bike for my warboss, a cute OP model mount from 2nd Fantasy; but I like your go at it, Number9Dream.

I included the sluggas in this the above list because I painted a full mob of them before reading the mathhammer on shootas. Poor me, wasted labor. (I have a second slugga mob half-completed, which I was going to turn into an 'Ard Boys unit; slugga 'ard boys aren't a wise choice, right?) I have a fair number of headless, armless boys, but will have to dig around on eBay for the bits to make them into Shootas.

On a final note, in objective-based battles, deploy the objectives close to your opponent. This may trick him into advancing forward with his troop units, which you can then roll over with your green tsunami. If that doesn't work, at least you don't have to leave any boyz behind to hold one in your deployment zone...

Standard good tactic there - deploying objectives as close together as possible and in the middle.

Just wanted to clarify: not my conversion It's really nice tho, and if I decide to use buggies I'll probably try to copy it instead of buying the old gorka morka buggies that are currently available.
