Nottingham (yay!)

Anybody got around to road-testing the new Codex in an Apocalypse game yet?

I'm very worried about how Destroyer weapons are going to treat my swarm with no more Eternal Warrior to hide behind.

Don't get me wrong, Apocalypse is for fun friendly games and I try to avoid being a WAAC player. But if all of my MCs die faster than you can say JoWW, it's not gonna be a particularly fun game.

Rupture Cannons and Spodding Zoeys at least give us some anti-Titan capability other than Barbed Heirodules, but the T-fex is looking very vulnerable indeed and there are a lot of bad things that can happen to Deep Strikers in Apocalypse.

The new Trygon formations in WD look interesting:

- A Lictor Brood arrives as normal, a Trygon arrives within 6" of the Lictor Brood without scatter, and 20 Hormagaunts jump out with it. All automatically fail a Instinctive Behaviour test and can assault (if not Lurking). The Trygon entrance spawns Hormagaunt units exactly like a Tervigon, but which cannot charge on the turn they arrive.

- 3+ Trygons, which get a 4++ and re-rolls to hit/wound (and auto glancing hits on a 6 to hit) with shooting when within 6" of nominated leader. Leader deep strikes as normal, and others arrive within 6" without scatter.

Second one looks like a must-have when dealing with D-happy prey...

Be interesting to see how Mawlocs affect the use of super-heavies, what with that whole 'automatically destroyed' rule. Oh wow, if you've got a ring of infantry defending against surprise assaults to your large based models, we've got something more powerful than a Vortex or D weapon! Given how broken it'll be to telefrag a Warlord Titan with 170pts of throwaway, I suppose it's just as well my wish for a Mawloc Barrage has been ungranted

Oh, and more IC's means that Vortex Grenades - sorry, I mean massive Hive Mind-powered hadouken that exhaust the creature's abilities for the rest of the battle - might be an interesting prospect.

Given how large Apocalypse set-piece terrain can get, Ymgarl Stealers could have an absolute field day.

In fact, I'm starting to wonder if Apocalypse games will be anything more than a mindless bloodbath when this Codex is involved...

Ill be playing a 3-way apoc game next month with some nids, I'll post how awesome the mawloc is for auto-nuking baneblades.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

Got a big game planned for this Saturday. It's in-store, and I'm running it. Will let you know. I have ordered the requisite bits for my Subeterrainean Assault though!

I've been advocating reducing the power of Destroyer weapons for a long time. I recommend making them not cause instant death on toughness 6 or more, not ignore cover against normal units (but ignore normally against models that must be 50% obscured) but instead give a -2 to cover saves, and not have +1 on the vehicle damage chart (only the superheavy chart).

This is only an issue if you play that models can be placed on impassible terrain. Otherwise, on the titan is an invalid starting point.

On the matter of Strength D weapons, I think the rules are about nice as they are, and indeed even Eternal Warrior shouldn't be able to save you. I don't care how many limbs you can lose before passing out, SD is designed to shoot a Titan in the pills and drop it with a single blast, it's still going to vaporise your sorry arse!

As for a Mawloc Barrage, it would appear more Apocalypse Goodies will be appearing on the Website, hopefully on Friday.

I dunno, the idea of a flash-fried Abaddon or Yarrick or Calgar digging themselves out of a smoking crater and shouting 'Right... now I'm REALLY angry!' has a certain appeal to me
