Howdy thar.
So, after I finally redo my beasts (Rawg), I was thinking of maybe doing up a Deathwing army-after all, I do already have a DA force.
So my question is, what do you think is the best (and by best I mean useful in most circumstances) special weapon for Deathwing squads to take? I'm leaning towards Cyclones, but am I completely wrong?

I used to play a Deathwing army and still regularly field them. Their biggest problem was that the lack of anti tank that wasn't hand to hand.
What to keep in mind is that dreadnoughts are greaat anti tank. Drop pod some near the enemy. Assault cannon is best all around weapon. Flamers are nice, but lack range. Cyclones are nice, but have fewer shots than assault cannons.
Throw a cyclone on your CC squad. Put the CC squad in a land raider of some type. Have a model for Belial with lightning claws. Use the Interrogator Chaplain in terminator armor as well.
Oh, and paint the dreadnoughts in bone white armor just like the terminators. Deathwing works great with the teleport homers of the ravenwing, but that wouldn't be a pure deathwing.
The other thing. One chainfist per squad. Great anti vehicle. You don't usually need more than one. One CC squad is usually enough for 1500pts or less. There just aren't enough targets to make them worthwhile. Combiniation of SS and LC.

The assault cannon can penetrate 14 armor
But as stated above, take a chainfist in each squad. It's a good 5 point insurance policy. Try and keep your squads as varied as possible, there's more flexibility there, and an Assault Cannon can make up for a pair of shots not fired by someone with TLC or a TH/ SS.

Assault cannon.
Our Cyclone is only one shot, and overpriced at 20 pts. I guess if you planned to have one unit whose sole job was to babysit a home objective, it might be worthwhile, but that's a bit of a waste of the other 4 termies in the squad.
The heavy flamer is worth it on your CC squad though -- try something like 3 x lightning claws, 1 x thunder hammer, 1 x heavy flamer & chainfist. They are going to need a Land Raider Crusader, or at least a Land Raider, though.

For the CC squad I'd do a thunderhammer and storm shield with the cyclone. Can do both. Not lose any effectiveness in CC or shooting.

Just one shot ends the discussion for me. If you're not w/in 24", you're not taking advantage of your stormbolters either. It always seems a waste to me to shoot just the Cyclone, when you could gain ground by running.

Assault cannon all the way. Sucks that you can only get one for every 5 guys, and the rending rules are a downgrade from 4th ed when the ‘dex was written. But even still it’s by far the best option.

The Cyclone is better in a Deathwing squad, even with the old-fashioned single-shot rules. Remember that a Terminator with a Cyclone can get additional weapon like Lightening Claws, or a Storm Bolter. A squad of five can have five Storm Bolters and a Cyclone Launcher. You lose one shot, but gain twice the range, a blast marker, and I believe its slightly cheaper.
