Morning chaps,

I'm off to GW at lunch to spend £20 on something new for my orks, so a swift response would be good, But hey even if not in time would still be very grateful for opinions.

Here is what I have thus far, I would be interested to know what people think I should consider getting next pls?

HQ

1 Warboss, Klaw
1 Warboss, Bike, Klaw

Troops

10 Nobz with Painboy, Various weapons, cyborg bodies
Truck
9 Nobz mainly armed with basic options, 1 klaw, 1 big choppa
30 shooter boyz, Nob with Klaw, a few heavy weapon options
30 slugga/choppa boyz, Nob with Klaw

Elite

4 MegaNobz
5 Lootas

Fast Attack

9 Bikers, 1 Nob with Klaw
3 Deffkoptas

As you can probably tell, it is based on the stuff I got in Black Reach and the Ork Megaforce box and I realise its not yet ideal if I were entering a tournament etc.

The options I am considering are -

- another truck
- more lootas
- Gazgul Thraka
- 3 more Bikes
- Deffdread
- 3 Killa Kans

Thoughts?

well it would be nice to know what you are going for here. it looks like you are shooting for a speed freaks army (based on all the bikers) here so i would think about getting more trukks. the trukks can be use in speed/mech builds. also not sure what point level you want but you can always use more boyz (i run about 90 in each of my armies).
dont bother with dreads or kans unless you want a kan wall not going to use most of what you already have.

I realise the general concensus is that I need to specialise and either have a horde/mech build etc. But I like to collect lots of options and mix my list up a lot, so sometimes take a largley horde, sometimes take all my speed options. The reason I was thinking kans is for some more anti-tank other than cc and the deffkoptas.

Planning on ussually playing 1500-2000 point games and having around 4000 points total to choose from and occassionaly have a massive game

Given how many nobz you have (and that you have 2 warbosses so you can take them as troops) I feel like you'd want some battlewagons (for boyz or regular nobz I guess) or trukks (seems fine for the meganobz), as I don't think nobz are that awesome on foot.

If you are getting Killa Kans, I think they need a KFF in most lists, and they would probably benefit from lootas much more than from Nobz, so it's a bit of a FoC problem here.

If you are going to take warbikers I feel like you need Wazdakka (which your Biker boss can easily count as) to make them troops, but that makes your foot boyz redundant.

But as Sickening said, it'd help to know what you are shooting for - mech or footsloggers?

In that case, another box of Lootas.

More lootas for a start, 5 won't last 5 minutes!

Though, you need to get the list sorted over all. Its a bit mish mash and has some good units and not so good untis and units which need sorting i.e lootas.

Wired into a deffdread

My advice is to playtest with proxies, assuming your friends/gaming group will allow and see what you like the most. Play at least a few games, at different point levels, with various styles. See what works, what you enjoy, what suits your personality. Then build your list around what works for you, trading/selling stuff you don't need and picking up what you do. Build lists based off what you like for each of the various popular point levels in 250 point increments (1250, 1500, etc.) and gradually build up from a good core.

My general advice, based off the assumption that you will drift towards either mechanized or horde, is as follows.

If you want a really gross (i.e., horribly effective, but will not make friends and borderline beardy) unit, make one of those nobz units nobz bikers.

Ghazgkhull is fierce in any list.

If you're going to mechanize:
Get a Big Mek with a KFF ASAP
The lootas probably need to go and you should get burnas instead.
Get battlewagons for the nobz/burnas/meganobz (whatever you decide to run)
Break your sluggas into 11 + nob groups and get them each a trukk

If you're going horde:
Your boyz should probably be all shoota boyz, probably need a couple more full units
Build a screen of some sort to protect them (gretchin or kans work, but I've seen 'ard boyz, often with Mad Dok Grotsnik, work as well, could be slugga boyz in this case since they will be running out in front every turn and fearless)
Big Mek with KFF to give all units a cover save
Nobz/Meganobz don't have a clear role, as you ideally never want them on foot
Lootas, if you're going to have them, need to be max size or they will vanish fairly quickly. Some advocate a grot screen or putting in a battlewagon for protection, but simply deploying in cover is probably good enough.

Bottom line, unless you're trying to be a hardened tourney player, is build an army list you enjoy and can have fun playing over and over, win or lose. Get stuff you like, but to make it more fun for you, get stuff that works together (i.e., try to avoid stuff that is slow or sits and shoots, like dreads or lootas, if you're running speed freeks; and there's little sense in having a ton of fast attack options in a footslogging, shooty army; etc.).

Good luck. Orks have tons of character and several ways of being both fun and competitive, so have at it!

Lootas are just badasses. They can mow down monstrous creatures, infantry and tackle medium armour. If you get the right dice rolls they can be a major problem. They can hold themselves in assault so-so as well.
