Subject: Best Way to deal with monstrous creatures (when playing a Vulkan He'Stan list)

So I'm beginning an iron hands army which will play as a Vulkan He'Stan Salamander list. My list primarily uses drop pod mounted units (3 dreadnoughts and some tac squads) which get in close and do the dirty.
However, I realized I'm going to have some serious issues with monstrous creatures (daemon princes, carnifexes etc) when they are getting 2D6 to armor penetration rolls in cc against my dreadnoughts. Likewise, my tac squads, even with the power fist sergeant, are going to get a serious bruising.
Any tips? I'd really like to stay drop pod oriented as well.

Best, Klaus.

Most Vulkan lists I see have 1-2 squads of assault terminators with thunder hammer stormshield which does a good job at killing big monsters.

Sounds pretty good- do they drop them in via deep strike?

I've heard this advice before... it's quite tempting. My only concern is those pesky armor saves on carnifexes and hive tyrants- I guess that's what combimeltas are for.

The best way to deliver TH/SS Terminators is by Land Raider, to ensure you get to strike where and when you want.
Sternguards do a pretty good job as well at taking down MCs, especially with the aforementioned Hellfire Rounds. With the amounts of wounds you are likely to get in, their 3+ save is not a very big issue, they will at least loose a couple of wounds.
I can also recommend Meltaguns and Combi-melta on the sarge in your tac-squads, that should give them a little more punch aganst MCs.

I'm having a hard time envisioning your list.
I think vulkan is a fine choice in some lists, but I think vulkan really needs at least 10 assault termies to really go off. If you are just buying the 190 point model to twin-link your dreadnoughts melta weapons, then I'd just suggest taking another melta dread for those points.
If you aren't going to be taking advantage of the master crafted thunderhammers, then id either run a conversion beamer master, or a librarian instead.
And as for monstrous creatures, if your dreadnought turned into an ironclad, you'd give monstrous creatures a LOT more to fear. my nid lists have been HATING facing ironclads. With shorter range weaponry, and one more CC attack, they are my preferred drop podding dreadnoughts.
if its vulkan that stays in the list, then i would drop regular dreadnoughts for thunderhammer terminators, THE bane of all MCs.

I also love the terminator/land raider build. However, as I already have a 2 LR black templar army, I really want to keep away from any armored vehicles in this army.
I think I'll try the sternguard, at least at first but as I'm doing Iron Hands I don't think I can't resist converting some cyborg terminators. I also have been putting combimeltas with all my sergeants, but the power fist upgrade seems pretty pricey for 2 S 10 attacks. I guess it can't be helped, though.
