So, i'm nearing college completion this year in May, and, i got a bit nostalgic. Starting to remember all the good years that have been and stuff, not only in college, but high-school too. I have to say, i had and still have tons of fun, and not always health-friendly, to put it mildly. So, anyone care to share what their best years of school/high-school/college? Maybe even tales of bravery? Waiting to it

Well, last year I got into a fight with some arseholes trying to steal stuff out of my bag and pulled one down the stairs with me.
He made good padding, but I still came out of it pretty banged-up.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

What would you recommend as an affordable quality Bass for an absolute numpty of a beginner?

I graduated from high school in 1984, so I'm just on the edge of that period in my life where I can remember the 'good old days' better than five minutes ago. I remember getting into a lot of fights, getting suspended a few times for questionable fashion choices and getting yelled at a lot for sleeping when I should have been paying attention. If I had it to do all over again, I would have brought a flamethrower.

Heres a link you may find interesting.

Also,Squire makes a fairly affordable, well made begginers bass, look into them
My first bass was a Fender Jazz precission that I bought from a pawn shop for $150.00 when I was 12 (28 years ago),and I have owned a plethera of basses since then including my prized Rickenbacker and my beloved Dean "Demonator".

In high school, I remember being fat, unpopular, braces, dorky friends and a general feeling of grief. I didn't have acne, thankfully.
In Uni, it was beer. Which led to bud. Which led to bagina.
In Uni II: Master's degree: The world's most expensive piece of paper, it was bud, GTA 3, Skol Lager and 16p Safeway self raising flour. That and watching TJ Hooker at 11am on Channel 4 when I would wake-n-bake for another day of reading North Korean published accounts of the second world war.
Good times.

Never really liked school, so it's easy to tell that I was a bit of an underachiever. As long as I passed all my classes, I was a-okay with my GPA.
My best year though, was my senior year in high school. Just because it was my kick back and relax year of school. Of 18 total credits in the year, 5 of them were academic and required to graduate. Everything else consisted of random electives that I took. My friend got really pissed at me, because he's the overachiever of the group - and I decided that I don't need no stinking math for my chosen major (Culinary Arts).
Oh, I will say this, the Minnesota Outdoors class I took all through Senior year was an absolute blast. Taking a day off from school (As a class field trip) to spend the entire day on a boat in the middle of Mille Lacs fishing? Another day spent trap shooting at a firing range? Yes, please.

We'd make dry ice bombs then leave them on the walkways before class changed, so they'd explode when people were walking by. We fogged up a bathroom with the leftovers.

In high school we had this awful history teacher that everyone hated. Then one day we found out from somewhere that she had a profile on a dating site. So we decided to make a fake profile on the site and started sending her emails. She eventually agreed to meet and we set up a fake date. W all went to the place and hid outside with a camera and then paid a homeless man to go in and say he was the man from the site. She left the restaurant crying and we took a tonne of photos. Unfortunately for us the pictures got out and went around the school and we got busted for it. The teacher quit, a couple of guys were expelled and the rest of us were suspended for about a month and then had to come back in over the holidays and help repaint lockers. Looking back I don't know why we did it.

I remember being taught how to fulminate mercury by my chemistry teacher, and learning how to make touch-powder and how it surprised the hell out of one teacher (and blew his metre ruler in half and scorched his desk). That was a keeper. We got away with it (even if we did have to keep our noses clean until grad).
Not a lot else.
Not much in the way of girl-fun. I started chasing girls late. 22. Spent an enjoyable two years playing catch-up, though.

That does remind me of fond memories in Science class in 8th grade. Teacher brings in a whole bunch of various chemicals and we spend the day learning which ones mixed together and lit on fire will make what color explosions...
Oh, and his great quote: "All scientists are pyromaniacs."

We tried the whole 8th grade to learn how to make ANY blast no matter how small...the teacher wouldn't show us (meaning he knew we were perfectly capable of turning it against him, or any other teacher)
However we did put a needle on his chair as vengeance.

One of my favorite memories was from my senior year when I was wrestling in the district tournaments. I had the flu in a big way and was puking my guts up between matches, had the shakes, and could barely stand. In one of my matches I went up against a fair muscled boy whose last name was "Trout"(almost anybody that's wrestled in U.S. high schools can tell you that if someone is a crappy wrestler, they're called a fish).
I figured that if I didn't do something in a big way with this guy quickly, I'd be getting my ass kicked pretty solid.
I managed to throw the kid with a fireman's right off the whistle, then locked him up with a chicken wing/armbar combo so hard, he started screaming in pain. The refs had me break the hold and and we started out in referee position, where I got the guy back into the same hold in about 5 seconds and he started screaming again.
This happened trhee more times in the match and I ended up winning with a major decision.
One of the cheerleaders got pictues of the match with me throwing Trout in the hold that I recently found in a box of old papers of mine.
Another good memory was when I got into it with a German kid named Swineheart, who had the habit of starting fights with smaller students. He had about 70 pounds on me (I weighed about 150) and about 5 inches of height. For some reason, he decided it would be a good idea to challenge me to a fight. I took him up on it and we were going to meet at the chicken coops(where all the fights happened) after school. Later that day I was lifting weights with one of my wrestling buds and was doing a 275lb. bench set when my friend started laughing.
Swineheart had been playing basketball in the gym and had walked into the weight room, saw what I was doing and had apparently turned and ran out.
That afternoon he tried to sneak out of the school when I found him and proceeded to smash him into lockers in front of a good sized group of people that had been looking forward to seeing the fight. He backed down with trembling lips and, to my knowledge, never tried to bully anyone again.

One of the best times in school was discovering the headteacher's private toilet. As we all knew which classes he was in at any time of the day, we could use the porcelain throne with the soft toilet paper instead of ripping ourselves to pieces on the razor-wire cheapness of the tracing paper in the general community bogs.
Ah, great days.
