OK this is my very first Battle Report (how exciting!). Thanks to Matt at Heavy Support (.com) for acting as my tutor. Not only did I annoy him with noobish questions, but also taking the extra time to jot down moves for this battle report, and taking pictures. Unfortunately, my camera-phone takes terribly fuzzy pictures, so I won’t include them.

4 Objectives were placed, and I won the roll for determining who goes first, and chose to deploy first and take the first turn.

The random roll for scenario was Seize Ground, Spearhead deployment. A Bastion was placed in the center of the map to represent the deployment marker.

I set up in the bottom left hand (Southwest) corner, directly on the Southwest Objective with my Rhino full of Plague Marines, 2 Oblits in the Southwest building (Oblits were separate units, on 2nd and 3rd floors respectively), DP was deployed on the open side of the Southwest building with the Oblits, ready to fly towards the enemy. CSM squad was set up at the back of the Southwest building ready to run to the Southeast objective.

Matt set up on the Northeast section of the map. Left to right (West to East from my facing) was the Hydra, Vendetta, and Two Chimeras.

Matt attempts to “Seize the Initiative”, but does not succeed.

CSM Turn 1
DP moves 12” towards the center, right beside the center Bastion, out of line of sight of Matt’s units.
The CSM Squad moves 6” towards 2nd objective (inside Southeast building).
Oblit #1 takes aim at the Vendetta, Lascannon rolls 4 to hit, 5 to penetrate, for a “wreck” result. Not the start Matt was looking for, hehe.
Veteran Squad disembarks from the Vendetta, and roll 5 for pining test.
2nd Oblit shoots a Plasma Cannon shot at the left Chimera, and the troops from the Vendetta that crashed nearby. The roll is 6 for “gets hot”, scatter dice roll 5 (-4) for a 1” scatter to the left, placing it directly over the Chimera. Oblit #2 rolls 6 for penetration, and then rolls 5 for another wreck!!!
Lastly, the CSM Squad run 2” during shooting phase towards their objective.

IG Turn 1
The Veteran Squad from the Vendetta retreats 6” towards his side of the table.
Chimera #2 shoots his multi-laser at Oblit #1. I roll 2 saves to avoid any wounds.
The Hydra fires at DP. 2 hits, 2 saves.
Psyker Battle Squad attacks Oblit #1 from inside Chimera #2, but Rolls 11” for scatter.
Master of Ordinance rolls 3 dice (7”-3) and misses Oblit #2

CSM Turn 2
My Terminators come in from reserve and fire 2 Combi-Melta shots and score one Glancing and one Penetrating hit. But my dice go cold on this potential vehicle kill, and only score a Shaken and a Stunned (I proceed to make a very bad James Bond joke here).
Oblit #1 misses on his Lascannon shot, but Oblit #2 rolls 4-4 to get a solid hit on the #1 Chimera. With a rolls of 6 for penetration, and a roll of 4 for Vehicle Damage, I destroy the Chimera’s Multi-laser.

IG Turn 2
Reserve roll of 2 fails to bring in reinforcements.
The Hydra fires a salvo at Oblit #1 and hits 3 times, but yielding only a single chance to wound. The Oblit rolls 5 for his armor save and escapes harm.
Psyker Battle Squad rolls 11 on scatter (Psychic blast), missing Oblit #2. The scattered shot came close to hitting the Plague Marine’s Rhino, but not close enough.
Vet Squad shoots 3 meltas and 16 shotguns at Termies (wow!). 2 metla wounds and 5 shotgun wounds = 3 dead Termies.

CSM Turn 3
Oblits roll doubles 2 and miss both shots on Hydra.
DP stays out of close combat (more on this later).
PM and CSM sit patiently on their objectives.

IG Turn 3
Vet Squad #1 moves 6” towards NW objective.
Vet Squad #2 moves 6” to the West table edge.
Multi laser on Oblit #1 scores 1 wound, but the Oblit rolls 5 to save.
Master of Ordinance Barrage misses Oblit #2 by 8”.
Hydra fires at Oblit #1 and scores 2 wounds, but I manage to make 2 saves (both 2s!, close call).
Vets squad #1 runs 6” towards NW objective.
Vet squad #2 runs 1” towards West table edge.

CSM Turn 4
DP moves into LoS of the East Squad but out of Hydra, but is not close enough to lash.
First Oblit rolls “gets hot” result of 1, and takes a wound after failing his save.
Oblit #2 aims for the Hydra with a Plasma Cannon shot, but scatters 2” to the right, hiting 3 Vets with the template, killing 2 Vets.

IG turn 4
Sly Marbo comes in from reserve (He’s Behind You), and parks on the other side of the West window of the Southwest building.
Chimera unloads troops, and then attempts Tank shock (more on this error below). Rolls a 1, and crashes into the building (prompting me snap a photo!).
The Hydra takes 4 shots at the 1 wound Oblit, and manages to score 4 wounds, and a single missed save ends his term of service.
Master of Ordinance Barrage misses by 15” (this guy can’t seem to shoot!).
Psyker Attack Squad rolls an exact Psyker test, but rolls 8” on scatter.
Sly Marbo hits 3 guys with his Demolition Charge, removing all three models.

CSM turn 5
The remaining Oblit rolls a 1 on his attempt to take out the Hydra.
DP moves and lashes East Vet Squad, pushing them away 8” from Northeast objective.
Sly Marbo takes 4 rapid-fire bolter shots (the melta misses) from the 3 remaining CSM, and Matt decides to play the averages instead of going to ground. Only one wound for Sly!

IG Turn 5
DP’s final wound from the Immobilized Chimera (more on this error below).
Psyker Attack Squad shoots at remaining Oblit, but fail the Psych test on a result of 10.
The Hydra rolls a Glancing and Penetrate. Glancing = Shaken, Pen = Weapon destroyed.
Master of Ordinance Barrage misses the Rhino, but hits the building with the Oblit. Wounds on 6, but the remaining Oblit rolls a 5 to save the wound.
Sly uses his Ripper Pistol and wounds/kills one CSM, leaving two defending the Objective.
Sly then assaults the Objective, wounds 3x with his Envenomed Blades, but lucky 3 saves keep the last 2 CSM alive.
Sly takes 3 hits from close combat, 2 wounds inflicted, and manages to roll 2 x 6’s!!!!!!!!!!

CSM turn 5
Oblit cannot shoot into close combat, so chooses to shoot at Hydra again. Rolls to hit, Penetrates on a 5, rolls a 3 for a Weapon destroyed, leaving one Autocannon still functioning.
Sly rolls 4 hits and 3 wounds in close combat, and 2 saves leave 1 CSM dead.
In return, 2 hit on Sly in close combat,1 wounds, and Sly’s bad acting is revealed as he rolls a 2 for a save, leaving on brave CSM holding the objective.

IG Turn 5
East Vets move further East to the Northeast Objective.
The Hydra shoots Rhino, to no effect
Master of Ordinance Barrage misses the Rhino, and strikes the building AGAIN! The Oblit makes an easy save.
The Pskyer Battle Squad moves and runs, but not far enough to put the Southeast objective in contention……

A roll of 2 ends the game in a clear draw – two objectives each.

Errors made in this game:

A tactical error made by me, was to not get the DP into close combat. He’s a can opener, and now that I know if he gets into close combat with non-vehicle units, that combat cannot be fired into in later turns.

One error that was made with Matt’s vehicles was that Chimera #1 had a weapon destroyed, but was still mobile. Chimera #2 was wrecked, but was used in IG turn 4 to attempt a Tank shock on the building containing the Northeast Objective, and later continued to shoot at, and eventually kill my DP. I should have asked Matt to flip the Chimera model on its back to represent the wreck.

Over all it was a fun first game with my army.

good report. As you said, you NEED to get the DP into assault. Guardsmen need 5+ just to hit him! Overall great game tho
