In no way meant to be complete. I read through pages of Tyranid tactics and Bat reps. The following are those gems of advice that seemed grounded in table-top experience. Not a complete list and Id appreciate any and all input. I wanted to only include short bullet points intended to get to the heart of it. I do not want to get into a discussion about unit-relevance in conjuction with other units, just a specific assessment of each unit. I know, I can hear the lamentations "But the list is meant to operate in synergy with other parts" - I get that. Just wanted a quick reference sheet summarizing key strengths and configurations....
Hive Tyrant- B, B+ Excellent profile with support-beast and killer capabilities.
Tyrant and TG: A+
Swarmlord and 2 tyrant guard: A, B
Tyranid Prime- A-, A-, B Twin boneswords are mandatory for this guy, add T5 wounds to key units, BS4 for shooty warrior units
Hiveguard- A, B+ The most efficient high-strength shots in the codex
Deathleaper- B, B Anti-psyker combined with infiltrator hunter
Lictor Brood. C
Zoans in Pod- B+
Zoanthropes- A+, B-, C using them as mobile Tervigon cover, Small-arms fire is their hidden weakness
Venomthropes- B, B- hide it behind a big beastie
Elite stealers- F
Warriors- C+, C+, C Deathspitters, Poison, and Scything Talons
Hormogaunts B+, D Use them with Poison
Gaunts- A, B, B, C- With a Tervigon, they're actually pretty brutal in assault, dont forget the option of 18" Str. 4 shooting
Terivgon B+ The ultimate support beast, scoring unit
Stealers with Broodlord: A
Genestealers: A-, B, B, F Arguably the best assault troops
Tyrannofexs B+, B+ Capsule Cannon necessary evil - great multi role Bug.
Trygon Prime- A+, B General Assault Beastie
Trygon- C+, C
Old One Eye: B
Carnifex: B
screamer killer carnifex pod- F - Good for Anti vehicle work
dakka fex pod- F
Carnifex in spod, A: Run him with claws, devourers, and bio plasma
Raveners- F, D They're fast- take rending claws
Spore Cluster: F
Gargoyles, B Give them Adrenal glands

According to you though, nearly all of your "F" units can actually be quite useful if used right

That's the problem with these sorts of rating, they provide no reasoning for the grade given so they're just someone's opinion and thus merely subjective.

The ratings were pulled from tactics and or batreps from those who used them in games. Key to this list really is getting the configurations used - like giving Gargoyles adrenal glands.
The letter values are purely subjective but does give a sense of the player's overall feel for the unit after using them in a game.

Exactly, given that the letter values are completely subjective, they're also completely superfluous unless accompanied by commentary making them meaningful for other people, but once we have the commentary then the ratings themselves are superfluous.

, I thought those letter grades for units was useless in the other thread.

ok ok geesh just disregard the letter grades ok. Its more important to see what configurations people are using I get it. The hope was to see what other gems could be added to the list - not get hung up on the letter grades. Theyre simply there to illuminate how the units did according to the owners.

Seems a bit of an arse-about-face way to list this.
Surely it would be better to list groups of units which work in synergy with each other, so people looking at say, Hive Guard, can see they perform best when fielded alongside Unit X, Unit Y but not Unit Z.
Ultimately, it's always going to be subjective anyways, because it boils down to not only personal preference, but the list itself, the list played against, terrain, mission etc.

LOL broodlord squad has a higher rank than a normal squad with sacs....
Warriors are ranked less than horms....
You need to get out and play, basing anything on random internet reports is completely useless.

Only played 2 games vs new nids (twice vs an all reserve genestealer army :p, 1 win 1 draw), but the broodlords seemed kinda scary - shut down ghaz for two turns after aura + gazing him, then ran him down while LD bomb was still active >_<
I've got very poor knowledge of the nid dex overall tho, what makes them a poor choice - are they really expensive, or prohibit you from taking other upgrades, or something else?
