So I was facing a guy who was playing nids a week or so ago and he ran 4x devourer HT's, like the old school ones. He told me each one gest 3 shots each at str 6, not quite like the old ones which were 2x attacks and twin linked for 2.

My question is, seeing as hes running 2 sets of devourers, do they count as normal twin linked rules (meaning 6 shots twin linked) OR does he get 12 shots? When we played he said he got 12 shots that were twin linked like the old versions, but that seems wrong when its 3 shots + twin linked per pair

The new devourers come in two flavors, regular (S4, assault 3) and brainleech worms version (S6, assault 6). If the HT takes two pairs, he gets 12 twin-linked shots.

Why didn't you look at his codex?

Its plain as day in the new codex, the Devourers carried by MCs are Assault 6, and MCs carry twin-linked versions.

So one twin-linked pair = 6 TL shots.
Two twin-linked pairs = 12 TL shots.

I've never understood this either. It really seems that some people feel that showing an opponent your codex is wrong. -shrug-

In any case, yeah, a new hive tyrant can have, at most, two sets of Twin-linked devourers With brainleech worms, so fires 12 shots.

It can quite often be from the other side... Some players, when presented with a codex rule that sounds a little 'off' won't ask to see the codex for fear of seeming rude, as if you don't trust your opponent.

Which, of course, a sad amount of the time you shouldn't, unless they're someone you know well.

You shouldn't even trust the people you do know well

Please help me here. I don't have the rulebook or codex with me. Does the rulebook state that an MC with a pair of guns counts as twin linked? 12 S6 twin linked shots sounds great!

No, the Nid Codex tells you you can replace one Talon with a twin linked gun.

Sorry... I was able to find the codex and it's stated in the entry for the Tyrant. I knew I was missing something.

Well I played old nids and he explained the str 4 devourers to me, I didn't know there was a second type with 6 shots each. Thats what was confusing the piss outta me after he said 3 shots.

And as stated earlier, I don't like to sound rude, and most players do get rather upset when you ask to see the codex for a rules clarification (as though your insulting their intelligence)

Then again this same guy was using hypnotism EVERY assault phase rendering my GUO useless, and after the match when he read me the rules from the dex we found out he was playing it completely wrong... lol. Taught me my lesson!

Here's the 'trick' I use: I always try to sound like its my fault that I'm ignorant...and well, because it actually may be the case once I see the codex! But anyway, I wait until it is THEIR turn and then I say something like:

'Would you mind if I take a look at your codex? I've barely had any time to read at it and I don't want to keep asking you stupid questions.'

And then I look at the area I want to know the answer to, as well as a few other things just for kicks to make it doesn't seem like I'm just checking up on him. And if it turns out he's wrong I just say:

'Oh, you know what, it looks like XXX actually is supposed to be YYY! Check this out here and see if I'm not crazy.'

And then hand it back to them.

Sometimes it's not a matter of trust it's just a matter of wanting to play with all the new toys before reading all the instructions. I played half a game using a 3+ save on my Hive Guard... It was a friendly game so no big deal.... I swear that thing said 3+ I think he changed it... Sneaky Guard playing Farggen Bastige.
